I am really bad at this game, but I enjoy the absolute rush of adrenaline playing this. Sometimes I get to 3-1 and feel great and then I die and restart over. Sometime when I will get a first win I will update this review, but I just say this is very well built game about styling on the fast road with very great visuals and nice sounds that just click many things in your brain
good aesthetic, a good amount of content and characters, addictive fast gameplay
Every death I have is pretty much some one hit kill to an unavoidable boss that respawned for a third time. You can power up for ten minutes and still get wiped out in a single charge move that starts off screen.. so that sucks. But the ten minutes leading up to that BS moment I do typically enjoy, and even though I immediately quit after it.. I do keep coming back. So if you find it cheap.. no, it's not some crazy in depth involved game or anything, but it's more fun for those ten minutes here and there than a lot of AAA titles. So.... sure.
nice
REDLINE CROOKS, developed and published by Alexander Golke, is a high-speed roguelite that merges top-down driving with chaotic vehicular combat, creating an experience that feels closer to an ongoing chase than a traditional racing game. It is built around momentum, destruction, and improvisation, constantly pushing the player forward through a series of unpredictable runs where survival depends as much on aggression as it does on control. The premise is intentionally simple. You take on the role of a criminal trying to escape relentless pursuit, with the road ahead constantly shifting and the pressure never letting up. There is no heavy narrative focus, and the game does not attempt to build a story beyond its core idea. Instead, it leans entirely into its gameplay loop, using its setting as a backdrop for continuous action. This minimal approach works in its favor, as it keeps the focus on the moment-to-moment decisions that define each run. Gameplay revolves around navigating procedurally generated roads while dealing with waves of pursuing enemies. The top-down perspective gives a clear overview of the environment, but the speed at which everything unfolds demands quick reactions and constant attention. Boosting is a central mechanic, allowing players to accelerate dramatically and smash through obstacles or enemies. However, this power comes with a trade-off, as it drains health, forcing players to balance risk and reward. Deciding when to push forward and when to hold back becomes a key part of surviving longer runs. Combat is seamlessly integrated into the driving mechanics. Rather than avoiding threats, the game encourages players to engage directly, ramming enemy vehicles, using weapons, and clearing paths through sheer force. This aggressive design creates a feedback loop where destroying enemies often restores resources or provides advantages, reinforcing the idea that offense is often the best form of defense. The result is a fast, chaotic flow where hesitation can be just as dangerous as reckless play. A major strength of the game lies in its variety of builds and characters. Each playable character comes with distinct traits that influence how the game is approached, and the upgrade system within each run allows for further customization. Players can acquire new weapons, passive abilities, and modifiers that significantly alter their strategy. Some builds focus on durability and sustained combat, while others emphasize speed and evasion. This flexibility encourages experimentation, making each run feel slightly different even within a consistent structure. The pacing is relentless from start to finish. Runs are designed to be short but intense, with difficulty scaling based on player performance. The more damage you deal and the longer you survive, the more aggressive the game becomes, introducing tougher enemies and more complex scenarios. This scaling system keeps the experience engaging, as it constantly adapts to the player’s skill level, but it also ensures that the pressure never fully subsides. Visually, the game adopts a stylized aesthetic that emphasizes clarity and motion. Bright effects, exaggerated explosions, and sharp contrasts make it easy to track the action even during the most chaotic moments. The presentation complements the gameplay, reinforcing the sense of speed and impact without overwhelming the player. The audio design follows suit, with energetic music that maintains a steady intensity and supports the fast-paced nature of the experience. Despite its strengths, the game’s structure can lead to repetition over extended play. While the variety of builds and procedural elements adds some diversity, the core loop remains largely unchanged. Over time, this can make runs feel familiar, especially once players discover effective strategies. Balance can also be uneven, with certain upgrades or combinations standing out as significantly more powerful, which may reduce the incentive to explore less optimal options. There are also moments where the chaos can become difficult to manage. The sheer number of enemies and effects on screen can occasionally make it hard to maintain precise control, particularly in later stages where the intensity peaks. While this contributes to the game’s identity, it can also lead to situations where success feels more dependent on reacting to overwhelming conditions than on executing a clear plan. Ultimately, REDLINE CROOKS succeeds by committing fully to its concept. It delivers a focused and energetic experience built around speed, destruction, and adaptability, offering a gameplay loop that is immediately engaging and easy to understand. Its strength lies in how well it maintains tension and momentum, even if it does not expand significantly beyond its core idea. In the end, it stands as a compelling roguelite that excels in short, high-intensity sessions. It may not offer the depth or variety needed for long-term engagement for every player, but it provides a consistently thrilling experience for those who enjoy fast-paced, skill-driven gameplay with a chaotic edge. Rating: 8/10
Actually very fun little arcade-like game.
