Red Embrace: Hollywood

One of those VNs that left me SHOOK and just staring at the monitor for a good while. It's terrible, it's beautiful, it's gut-wrenching. If you play this, please do yourself a favor and work to get Markus' special ending. It's a trudge but it's 100000% worth it as it ties the game up in the most beautiful way and you will not regret it.

For every enjoyer of visual novels, and almost gut-wrenching angst, Red Embrace: Hollywood, is a must to play, this was of the best VNs I've ever played and read; it wasn't what I was expecting and everything about it exceeded my expectations. Every approach to the three main characters (ilysm Heath <3) were so interesting and unique that after finishing the secret endings I'm just here, writting this, feeling everything and nothing (strangely I'm feeling a sense of longing). Although I'm so late by 7 years since the release of the game, I'm so happy that I crossed paths with this game and got to play. And now this is going to be another game that I'll remember dearly with a hand over my heart.

I finally finished the game with all special endings and really liked it. I am a big fan of the original Vampire: Bloodlines and this game goes into a similar direction from atmosphere and world-building (even more so than the official visual novels for that brand). The music and art are top-notch and the writing is beautiful. I would not see it as a dating game, but rather a character study of the three main characters. Throughout the game you can build relationship with those (friendship or more) although most endings will not be very satisfying if you expect a classical romance game. I really loved Markus and Heath as characters, I did not click with Randal on the other hand who I thought was written in a more superficial way. Markus is clearly the poster boy of the game and the most fun to play. What I did not like though: although the 3 routes are quite distinct with only some overlapping part, you have to at least play through the game about 7 times to get Markus´ special ending (the only ending that could count as somewhat happy end). The game has many choices, but those are mostly for flavour and the game is mostly quite linear in each route, so repeating the story feels like a grind. Overall though, I really recommend this game for fans of vampire stories, the game is really well-done and totally worth the price.
