Re.Surs is an unusual story, not just because of the game, but because it seems to be a somewhat genuinely, sincerely made game, yet the developer felt it necessary to go to the good old Russian paid/fake review farm and get fake reviews for the game. That nasty review manipulation which has given this game a fake "mostly positive" review score is certainly enough for me to warn gamers away, after all, we should not want to buy games from morally bankrupt, unethical developers such as this. However, there is a game here, admittedly not much of one, but there is a game. It's a hybrid 2D side view adventure game and 2D side view platformer/shooter type arcade game (think Metal Slug only not as good). There's even a backstory and narrative. This is the kind of game that should at least be able to stand on its own two feet, yet, vexingly, the fake reviews are there, and not even a small number of them, enough to be far beyond the margin of error (fake reviewers are encouraged to buy and review other games to muddy the water and further disguise their activities). So, there is a game here, but in the big scheme of things it's not a great game in terms of gameplay, story, all that stuff. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. To make matters worse, while lazy, low quality pixel "art" has been used, making the game look bad, many elements of the game aren't done with pixelcrap... which accomplishes a couple of things. First, it shows the developers perhaps could have done better and they knew it, so that's a major screwup. Secondly, it destroys any hopes the developer had of creating a "retro aesthetic" as their excuse for the lazy pixelart compromise... It looks completely inauthentic from a retro gaming perspective. Visually, this is a hamfisted mess, a dogs breakfast of bad visuals, and this kind of laziness and poor quality should never be foisted on gamers. There's an ugly screen filter meant to make the game look even more obsolete... like the game looks bad enough already, but they actually went out of their way to make it look worse. There's no way to turn this off. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. Arrogantly, the developers demand you should find a way to plug headphones into your gaming PC to experience the craptastic audio they shovelled into this terrible game. I run a 9.2 surround sound system for my gaming rig, I'm not interested in downgrading just because the developers demand I experience the game in a compromised manner. Developers must never dictate to gamers how a game should be consumed, it's their JOB to ensure a game is experienced well on any gaming rig. Failure to do this is a failure on their part, and not the gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The game never really caught on with the millions of gamers on Steam, with a very low peak player count close to launch, and then just a handful of players launching this game every couple of days. This is undoubtedly caused by factors such as those raised in this review. It's always helpful with buying decisions to consider how popular and successful the product is, and unfortunately while this did accumulate a few participation trophy reviews, overall, people just aren't using it. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this game should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Re.Surs has the almost comically optimistic (if it wasn't so sad) price of around $8 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. It's possible this price is either for the purpose of money laundering, or simply to prevent genuine reviews from reducing the fake "positive" review score from the fake reviews the developer paid for. Either way, this is unacceptable manipulation of the Steam store for profit. It's harmful to gamers and to genuine indie devs, because it gives indie devs a bad name.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Awesome visual style! Boss Fights are pure joy.
Nice and suitable music, lots of fun and action, mechanics with weapon upgrades, a variety in the choice of weapons , nice pixel graphics
I recommend checking it out next time it's got a good discount going, but don't expect good gameplay out of it. It's a short sci-fi story delivered with really amazing pixel art visuals, but mechanically it's just a very janky sidescroller. It's not super hard or anything, just extremely clunky and not satisfying at all. It might as well have a skip gameplay button.
cool visuals and interesting gameplay!
After playing (and loving) VidyGames' most recent game; Plastomorphosis, which, although being a very different style of game (old school survival horror), takes place in the same world as Re.Surs, I found myself very curious about the world building and lore here, so I wanted to explore further. This game has a fantastic aesthetic and soundtrack, and some pretty cool gameplay. I was god awful at the game, much to my disappointment, something about how it works intrigued me but simply didn't click. Luckily, easy mode exists and makes the game probably too easy to be honest but given how hard I found it on the regular difficulty I was totally okay with it. Pretty cool game with an interesting plot. If you've played Plastomorphosis already then this game does help build that world up quite a lot. Worth a look!
Re.Surs is a very ambitious game in terms of lore, setting and story. But it’s held back by technicalities and writing to make it go all out. You have 16 chapters where the gameplay is mostly fighting enemies vaguely similar to Final Fight games, there is some simple hacking, a tiny amount of platforming and 2-3 vehicle sections. You can play with 3 characters that you can switch to from a menu, they have unique moves and skills that help keep the fights a bit fresh. The achievements are mostly related to completing the game with about 5-6 being optional/secrets. It took me around 4.8 hours to get all the achievements. As mentioned, the game’s ambitiousness is really impressive. It makes you want to learn more about the story/world due to the way it’s presented. There are lots of environments that have different settings, making you feel like you’re on a grand adventure. The sound effects, mixing and music are pretty great actually. I like many of the ideas the game has and I like what the developer is trying to do with the gameplay. Having 3 characters with different play styles is very welcome, it’s another example where you feel like the game is ambitious. The game auto saves pretty often, so you can quit quite easily whenever you feel like it. A lot of the technicalities are not very good however. Animations are generally unimpressive but I understand that a lot of work goes into this, especially for an indie developer. I’m less kind on the gameplay. Fighting works once you get used to it but character/enemy animations, stagger, speed and overall balance is not great. There are some sections held together thanks to the generous health drop by enemies whenever you’re low on health. It’s like a necessity to make things work. The platforming is awkward because you don’t do it freely. You switch into that mode when the game decides. Platforming could have also felt better if there was a dedicated jump button instead of relying on specific moves by certain characters. I can imagine it could have enhanced fights as well if you were allowed to jump there too. Lastly, it’s jarring that there isn’t a button to switch to other characters quickly instead of having to go to a menu. This just breaks the flow. There are many shortcuts to switch weapons, I would have preferred having those kind of shortcuts for the characters. As for the writing, it could have been worse. I didn’t really notice typos but you can tell that things are off. The writing is also not good in terms of quality, intend, how information is shared etc. I might sound very nitpicky here but the game has lots of text and the lore is clearly very important not just for this game but all the games that share this lore/universe/setting. It needs to get better if it’s emphasised this much. Overall I had a good time playing Re.Surs. The developer clearly has many great ideas that are being acted on. I can’t help the nagging feeling that there is potential for more but I prefer the dev actually releasing games. It feels like a lot can be learned through experience and it shows with the other games he/she released since. This game is on sale often, I got it for less than €1. So it’s not like you’re losing much when you give it a try. It’s a game to play out of curiosity, when you’re a fan of the developer and want to learn more about the lore/world.
Не плохой проект требующий продолжения! + атмасферно и не на скучивает + музыка +Сюжет стоит его по лучше проработать -построение уровней порой не видно платформ и не понятно что от тебя хотят -баги с мобами
