Quite a cool game, of course not without drawbacks. cool stuff: 1. Lots of action, especially in the end. Almost Serious Sam sometimes, but you always have proper gun to destroy demons. 2. Some bosses remind old good game console games. 3. Surprisingly lots of stuff for indie game - several main characters, lots of guns, lots of demons 4. Complex and interesting plot, but sometimes there is a feeling like watching Dune without reading book - very interesting, but understood nothing. 5. One of plot twist in the middle reminded me half life, that was quite cool. 6. 5.5 hours of game play for this price - this is crazy! Bad stuff: 1. The first and the one of the last bosses hard as hell. But you can just turn the easy mode on them. 2. Quite difficult battle mechanics - you can't jump but you can use shield 3. Pixel art is okay-ish, but you don't pay attention on it during killing demons Instead of summary: Yeah, seks is cool, but have you tried to defeat the first boss from the first try?
I played this during Steam Next Fest and the demo really grabbed my attention. The game itself however, fails to live up to the promise of that demo. After the first hour I found myself just trying to push through because it feels like a game of passion. The art is beautiful, the music is great, and the story is interesting even if it's a bit difficult to follow at times. But man, the gameplay is a frustrating experience. Combat consists of shooting enemies, dodging, blocking, and occasionally using a special ability. You also switch between multiple characters during combat which gives you a temporary moment to let your other characters heal a bit. Enemies are often bullet sponges. Boss battles look cool, but overall have easy to exploit mechanisms that make the battle itself a bore. But back to the combat. I got close to the end, and I'm in the Underworld/Hell area. My battle here has me surrounded by melee enemies, and it's about as enjoyable as tossing bags of dog poo back and forth as if I'm juggling. The bullet sponges come at me relentlessly, I dodge, I teleport to the high ground which is worthless due to the range of the melee enemies.. I switch characters, weapons, try multiple bits of variety, and die. I repeat, try things a bit differently, die again. This process goes on for awhile, maybe 10-15 minutes of this until I finally defeat this moment of mundane enemy slaughter. This moment robbed me of any further desire to continue. There have been multiple moments of the game where I simply have not enjoyed the combat due to its frustrating limitations, and the thought of experiencing more has torn any further desire to travel with the Detective and her pals. In the end you've got a game with a great artistic vision, a superb soundtrack that fits each environment quite well, and some of the most frustrating 2D combat I've ever experienced.

As much as I want to defend little indie developers, I can't decently recomend this, even though a lot of work went into this game and it's a work of love. I was initially intrigued by the demo, but as you continue with the full game it becomes less and less fun and polished. There is an attempt at narrative but it becomes obvious that the dev is just making up the story on the go. Well in any case it's not very interesting. The gameplay can only be described as "spammy". You alternate between exploration sequences where there's no combat but only dialogs and pointless hacking minigames, and series of encounters where enemies start attaking you and you're allowed to fire and use abilities. The enemies just gang up on you like it was vampire survivor and stick so close to you that they get behind your projectiles spawing point so you have to either dash or repel them, and repeat the firing ad nauseam, there's no subtlety or gameplay sophistication, you just spam your abilities as they reload and as the game advances the enemies absorb more and more damage till you reach the point when you don't find this fun anymore. Not to completely knock this game off the park, but to start off with the positive, everything down to the sprite art, the environment design, texture, the characters, and lighting all of that look amazing adding a layer of complexity to this futuristic cyber world. This developer is definitely a skills artist, I wouldn't mind seeing these assets in other games like a point and click games, just the care and detail that went into the game it's quite addicting just staring at them. I was optimistic after finishing the first level of the ability, the combat and the enemies were quite fun and I have some high hope for the story, but after a couple of levels, the gameplay started to get repetitive, due to a swarm of sponging enemies. Becoming too brawling to my liking that I feel like none of the weapons has any weight or impact, just subtle damage numbers hurting the combat, there was a time in the hell level towards the end of the game when it was so difficult to kill because they just absorb so much damage that I have to deal with getting killed multiple times by being pushed into the lava so often. Even introducing new characters with their own set of their abilities doesn't help make the combat more interesting as I feel some of them could be better tune to fit in this fast pace shooter game as abilities like Basil. B teleporting ones feel clanky as there is some delay to teleport where you want to be. Also, in this where a lot happens on the screen so it's hard to focus on where your character is, plus it is generally hard to defeat enemies with a high HP, it just feels a bit unfair. This is probably just me, but I can’t depict what the story is about, don't get me wrong I got the general picture of what the plot is about in this game, but things like what is Re. Sure does in the first ace all made this game confusing for me to understand what was happening half the time I lost interest to follow the story. Maybe, because this game seems to be inspired by the Half-Life series and expects you to play it before, but it doesn't do a good job explaining the story to those who haven't played it before like me. This is why I feel like I'm in a minority here when it comes to enjoying this game, I wish I could look at the superb art direction without any of these issues, but sadly this isn't the case due to the combat and story.
Usually when reviewing a game you want to set the scene and draw in people by establishing the narrative that will hopefully engage them alongside the game-play. Unfortunately in the case of 'Re.Surs' it's a somewhat mediocre mix of 'Half-life' and 'DOOM' where a new source of energy called Re.surs has been found, but oopsies! It's from a hell dimension and the entities from that realm are none too chuffed at it being taken. It's an unstable element and can lead to outbreaks of "dark energy" that transforms people into mutants, and also, uh, somehow gets them addicted to an evil VR game...? You play as a Detective who is part of a taskforce that handles these outbreaks and must uncover the "incredible" secrets behind Re.Surs (those who discovered it didn't tell anyone where it actually comes from, for obvious reasons) before the world is destroyed. The narrative goes all over the place with its influences and is hamstrung by a level of ambition that sadly isn't quite matched by the writing talent to do it justice. There's the bare-bones of something relatively worthwhile here as it ticks off the expected dramatic points and goes from A to B, and B to C etc and I can understand the beats they were trying to hit. Yet its execution is passable at best, a bit clumsy in general, and cringe-worthy at it's worst. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2954194817 So what's the game-play like? Uh, well, it's passable at best, a bit clumsy in general, and a wee bit glitchy at its worst. It's a run and gun shooter with responsive controls, punchy feeling weapons, some good ideas and a modicum of fun to be had from it, but again: doesn't quite have the talent behind it to make it great. Some of the games later bosses are fairly impressive, some are not. Some of its set-pieces are good, some are not. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2955167339 It introduces three playable characters over time, and whilst they share a few abilities between them (a dodge move, albeit slightly different in effect for each one, and a shield) they do have some unique individual skills. They also act as "lives" by switching from one to another during battles, as each has their own health bar. Some of the harder fights benefit from this "tag-teaming" aspect, and there are traversal sequences that utilise their skills for platforming, or some puzzle elements make use of them. It does aspire to being more than a simplistic shooter, though it does so by using familiar things from other games that did it better. Overall: it's alright to play through, yet it wouldn't really cut the mustard if it cost more or was being compared to other titles of a similar nature. Because, for sure, there are more exciting ones out there. There's worse ones too, but that doesn't really earn you brownie points. Beyond that it has a couple of bugs that, whilst not game-breaking, can be a bit annoying, and occasional spikes in difficulty that result from slightly wonky mechanics rather than a finely honed challenge. Enemies can be bullet-sponges and frustrating to kill or avoid taking damage from them, despite the game giving you the means to negate this, and the game can be quite stingy with handing out health replenishment items. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2954196488 It's never that hard as to be flinging your controller about in rage, but nonetheless it can't nail a certain smoothness or joy from the action either. There's always something a little bit wrong about it. Never awful, though on the other hand it isn't super-duper amaze-balls. Between the story and the game-play it has things that drag it down. Graphically it's alright, with mostly stylish design and modest technical chops setting the scene, albeit not as good-looking as it could be. The music can be pretty decent and the sound-effects are nicely done. I'd say it's most dubious aspect is the story-telling, followed by mild deficiencies in the game-play, but it isn't expensive and if you are somewhat forgiving I still think it just about earns a recommended.
Cool game kind. pros: - great visual style. Very atmospheric and stylish levels. - action battles as you need to use hero abilities in time. - different weapons with which you can kill demons. - different bosses, not very difficult though, it's okay. - intricate strange plot. - good jokes) - good price. - I liked the crazy dancing letters))) cons: - some bosses and fights pissed me off. - some basics 2d scroller shooterics are not presented, but mechan yeah it's experimental.
Cool 2D side-view shooter, gorgeous atmosphere and level design, interesting dialogues, I really liked the game, the only skirmishes are mediocre, but walking and diving into this world was very interesting for me.
Great game! Pleasing visuals, addictive gameplay, and very cool soundtrack!!! Man, I feel like I'm kicking demons asses in the hell or Mars again!!!
