Quick Description: -Raven's Hike is another solid entry in the gaming world by Wired Dreams Studio. I don't think this is as good as Red Ronin or Undergrove, but it still offers a satisfying, challenging experience that can be completed in one sitting. It's not the most innovative game ever created, but is an easy recommendation, especially when on sale. What's Good: -This is an extremely simple game to learn the basics and then get started. Mastering the controls only takes a few minutes, making this a great game to play if you only have a few minutes. This game has really fluid controls, and grappling around the rooms feels really good, especially as you become more competent w/ the mechanics. -The skill ceiling is higher than you would expect. Even though this is an easy game to learn, it packs a harder punch than you would expect. Some of the later levels will really test you. It's really rewarding when you complete some of these harder sections. There are optional collectibles scattered throughout the levels which adds an additional layer of challenge to achievement hunters. -This game is cheap as balls! It's $5, but is on sale all the time. I think I paid $2, which is an absolute steal. It's a game that can be completed in one sitting. I love these bite sized platformers. Could Use Some Changes: -The 2d platformer genre is jam packed w/ heavy hitters. Although I really enjoyed my time w/ Raven's Hike, it doesn't really offer anything new to the genre. It's interesting and fun enough, but it doesn't really push the boundaries of the genre in any unique way. -If you are looking for a game to invest hundreds of hours into, this is not going to be the right choice (You can 100% the game in under 3 hrs). Not every game is going to have the replayability of Celeste, so go in w/ an open mind, and you should have a good time. Consensus: -Middle of the Road Game (Tier 4 and makes up 25% of my reviews). This is the third game from this dev that I have reviewed, and I've enjoyed every single one. I don't think this game is as good as Red Ronin or Undergrave, but I still think it's a fun game w/ lots of charm and some challenging platforming sections. Snag this on a sale and enjoy this little Indie gem over the course of an afternoon.
https://youtu.be/5KsCsJLL7kk Quick snappy movement with clever level/puzzle design makes for a near perfect small scale platformer.
Really good little platforming game, can be pretty hard but it's quick and forgiving. Would recommend, especially with the cheap price.
It's a really fun little game. I would say that it's a mix of SMB/Celest and Bionic Commando with a little bit of puzzle sprinkled on top. You cannot jump, just use your grappling hook to cross rooms full of obstacles. Controls are super responsive and respawn is instantaneous so it never gets frustrating. It has a decent level of variety when it comes to challenges and difficulty feels just right for that type of game. There’s something in the visuals that make it more appealing than other pixel art games but I cannot fully grasp what it is. Sounds are great because even after hearing them a thousand times they were still enjoyable. Game is literally little. You can finish it probably in 2h if you will skip feathers and there’s no real story. Sadly you learn the most out of store banner. I wasn’t expecting an RPG but at least a short intro to what I’m doing. Works great on Steam Deck. Only extra step is required (assigning Ctrl to one of the buttons) if you want to wipe out your save data. Important thing for people that want to max it out - rooms cannot be repeated so if you accidentally forget to collect the feather it will require you to play the whole stage from the beginning (or quickly pressing menu button and hitting restart). Thankfully after finishing the game you can play any stage so at least you don’t have to start the game over and over again.
This game was simple, yet challenging and such a pleasure to play. Movement is executed by pressing a direction and the character will use a grappling hook (?). Direction can be changed midair Actually some levels are easy to just complete but hard complete. Over all the game is a great value
Sweet little game. Provides a good challenge despite not being too hard and frustrating.
The game is fast and good.
Simple but very enjoyable. Puzzles with a great blend of arcade timing.
Excelente plataformas, con una dificultad muy bien equilibrada y con muchas situaciones diferentes. Corto (algo más de 2 horas, y no soy particularmente bueno en los plataformas). Muy recomendable.
