RATSHAKER is a goofy game that parodies the horror games from the 2010s. (And some games in recent years.) It resembles many GMOD and Amnesia fanmade maps that I used to play out of curiosity and boredom. Even some cheaply made indie horror games follow the same tropes.
The classic gore filled rooms, drenched in blood. The jumpscares that are more laughable than scary. The tormented 'protagonist', recalling his terrible crimes in horrific fashion within looping rooms. The usual victim of the wife, murdered by his own hands. Except this time he carries around a silly cartoon rat that he shakes and strangles the whole time.
Its all in good fun and I had a good laugh while playing RATSHAKER. 10/10 would shake again.
I like the audio design and art. It's clear that effort was put into the game, but tbh there isn't any real meaning to be taken from it or if there is one it's poorly communicated. The horror aspect feels shallow and more just like "look at this scary thing" as opposed to connecting to any sort of real human trauma, pain, or suffering. The gameplay felt repetitive and I was constantly looking for a non-existent narrative.
Note: I completed the game on another account and will be playing this one again for academic purposes. I watched a let's play of this game and could not believe how funny it was within the first minute. Lo and behold, my friends and I were crying actual tears cracking up before we went into the house where things get... complicated. We were pleasantly surprised to be playing a genuinely upsetting (complimentary) and compelling game that feels like it's ACTUALLY doing what a lot of other horror games try to do when taking inspo from P.T./Silent Hill 2. All while shaking and choking a rat in a hilariously animated/voice-acted fasion.
SHAKE IT
runs like hot dog ♥♥♥♥♥. How did you guys not optomise this at all? I can't even get past the first rat shake before the game mplodes and fking nukes my laptop. Mind you my laptop is pretty close to the minimum and recommended specs for the game, but it's so poorly optimised I couldn't even open the settings to try and lower ♥♥♥♥. (And yes I have 4 hours in the game. I'm not gonna lie, I straight up got drunk and fell asleep trying to get this game to run, I spent a whole hour trying to shake the rat just to watch my laptop nearly blow up in the process with each shake.)
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! THE RAT TOOK REVENGE AND STARTED TO SHAKE ME!
so funny
An asinine and tedious walking simulator.
