Rift Apart offers a fantastic gameplay experience: it's a blast hopping in between dimensions, collecting fun, new and inventive weapons to try out, and the combat and platforming sections feel great. The action sequences are high-intensity, with set pieces often exploding (quite literally) with things going on. There's also plenty of collectibles and hidden stuff to get for the completionists out there. However, the story and writing are contemporary Pixar-level - this would be fine elsewhere, but this is Ratchet & Clank: a franchise that carried some raunch and edgier humor back on its PS2 days. They have completely drained Ratchet of all personality, which is not great considering he's the guy on the tin. Rivet is a fine new addition, but it seems like she gets most of the spotlight, leaving our titular character feeling like more of a side character. The voice cast does some incredible work, but man, there is next to zero flavor to these characters, making most of them forgettable along your journey. The dialogue is often wince-worthy, and most of the attempted humor falls flat on its face. Stay for the solid gameplay, skip if you're looking for a substantial plot and good writing.

10/10 Ratchet & Clank game
One of the most beautiful games I've ever played with possibly the most satisfying combat mechanics I've yet to encounter. The story is interesting and fun too. A hall-of-fame caliber platformer that grizzled discerning adults and rambunctious children like in equal measure. Runs great on linux! (tested: SteamOS, NixOS, Arch)
