Picked this up and played it for about an hour. Not bad at all and very impressive for what I understand is a one-man dev team. Reminds me of Into the Breach, mixed with a deck-builder game, as you progress through a run and pick up new units to replace more basic grunts in your roster. I can see a lot of potential. Some early confusion on exactly what to click on to get to the next battle, but that is pretty standard for Early Access and after a bit of trial and error I was getting quite into it and starting to see how you can plan to combine units and take advantage of their synergies. The art style for the interface is very strong, but it would be nice to see more variety in the battle areas themselves, both aesthetically and functionally. Currently they all seem to be the same flat areas, but hopefully this will change as I get deeper into a run. Also would be good to see more variety in the colour palette, currently the environments all feel a little too yellow for my taste. In general though, it's a strong first impression and I could see myself getting quite into it. It's not just battles either, there are traders and story points along the way that can give you little boosts. Would be good to see this expanded upon. Also, it's suitably difficult, especially if you beeline right for the entry points to the next floor down. Balancing the difficulty so it's tricky without getting too frustrating will be key I think. So far I'd give it 3.5/5 with strong potential for that to increase during Early Access.
Did two runs. Both times the game does not respond.
It feels like there are 5? faction cards per faction, and you usually start with two. so with "5" different teams to choose from, you'll be playing the same cards every single run, because all of the cards are in the general pool. Having beaten a run with 4 of the squads, I can safely say I had within 5 cards of a 15 card limit deck every single run. There are 5 relics? so you can double up on the good ones, though one constantly crashed my game.
Not much depth, cheap and the bits that worked were fun but unplayable currently. I'd rather have bought two small coffees instead. I kept running into a bug where the game stops responding and I'm forced to restart, losing the run. It seems to happen when interacting with specific nodes in the 2nd depth but I didn't enjoy the game enough to restart several times just to find the one (if it exists) route that doesn't bug out. A lot of QoL features missing too: card compendium, highlight keywords to view explanation, tooltips for offerings in events etc
Overall I had a great time playing this game. Pros: - Lovely art. I especially liked the animations of the little guys attacking each other - Once you get a few cards going it feels great to play them together - Has that 'one more run' thing going. Whenever I died I wanted to get right back into it Cons: - Your starting deck feels pretty weak and I had trouble at the start every time, but that might be by design - Sometimes I got cards that did nothing for my deck, it would be nice to only get mercenary cards when playing the mercenary, but again that might be by design Really looking forward to seeing where this goes throughout early access.
It's been a while since I've done any gaming but I really like the art style of this so decided to give it a go. It's a beautiful game! Love the style and range of characters on both sides. It took me a few rounds to get to grips with what I was doing but once I figured everything out (and, more importantly, actually started winning some rounds lol) it got addictive. Pick your moves wisely! Great stuff!
Maybe a good game? Not sure. A year after a release there is still a 4k bug, which was present in the demo. Well, no recommendation from my side, because I use 4k. If with 4k still wants to play it: open C:\Users\xxx\AppData\LocalLow\Reggie Dev\Rapture Recovery Squad\SettingsFile.es3 { "windowed" : { "__type" : "int", "value" : 0 }, "resolution" : { "__type" : "int", "value" : 6 } } if resolution has a value of 9 (=2160p) it won't start. 6 is 1440p, but you can use any value between 0 (720p) and 8 to fix the start up issue. Autodetection will set this to 9 on first startup when you have a 4k resolution. Change it and you can play, but don't change it after the start back to 4k, because then you have the same issue again.
A very cool tactical combat game, if a bit on the difficult side.
I love, love, love the art style. It might skew a bit on the easy side right now for me, but I see a lot of potential for combos in the cards available right now. Pretty surprised this was made by one person tbh.
Fun little game! Some really interesting mechanics, I particularly like 'severing' and the cool things you can do with that!
