So far it has no depth. Its lacking a lot of things. I've gotten to the second map. A lot of stuff don't seem to work yet. Especially changing your character. A bunch of the weapons are exactly the same. It's got a lot of work ahead of it sadly. If you're okay with a literal small combo hitting game then by all means get the game.
At first, Radical Heroes: Crimson City Crisis seemed like it was going to end up being a clone of River City Ransom with a few minor differences. The basic combat is there (punch, kick, jump) as are the weapons that you can pick up and throw or bash your enemies over the head with. The graphics are even similar to those of the NES experience, although I prefer the old art style to this one. Overall, a River City Ransom clone would have been great as I was a huge fan. Unfortunately, this game turned out to be only a skeleton of those ideas. In RCR, food not only healed you, but increased your stats, it was the way that character progression took place and you saved up your money to buy the foods to build the stats that you enjoyed. In Crimson City, food solely heals you while you put a point into fewer available stats that are less diverse and interesting. The basics of the stores are present here which includes locations where you can purchase new abilities but the massive number of options is no longer present and the fantastic atmosphere of RCR is not present; this does not feel like a real world that you're a part of, it's more of a bland combination of paths with random enemies spawning for each level, separated by a checkpoint that you need to hunt for a key card to open. There are a number of positive reviews comparing the game to River City Ransom but these seem to be the hopes and dreams of people who share the same nostalgia that I do and wanted to support the game for its possibilities, not its current state. The heart and soul of a game like RCR is not here and that only becomes more apparent when you see that the developer shifted the price from $8 to $2 mid-production and never responded to those who had bought the game and asked if it was still going to be an $8+ experience. In short, this game was clearly inspired by River City Ransom but ended up being so bare bones that it's hardly recognizable as such. The mechanics that are here are bland and uninspired and a better experience, even of just simply side-scrolling beat 'em ups, can be found in many others games that are available.
Waited a year for this game, only be taken more years back, the year is 90's
The nostalgia is real my friends. This game as everything i dreamed off as a kid,
kickass moves
,
kickass weapons
and
kickass levels
, not to mention my all time favorite when i used to dream of Jet Lee and me VS the World, the popular slowmotion scream WOOOOOOOO. ⚠But do be aware⚠. Early Access does not represent the final product, this is something players/gamers seem to forget, so bugs are SUPPOSED to happen, as an apprentice or Dev to be, this is something i learned too, i used to talk shenanigans too, but Devs do need help too from the community to improve their games, so except some issues. Aside from a few issues, the game is quite good, loving so far. I did got a free key but, i had purchased the bundle twice to gift the game to friends, so we can do a coach game session like old days, its house invasion all over again, me inviting my friends over, only this time no parents to yell at me :D Cant wait for it be out of Early Access.
This is a pretty good start to a unique beat-em-up. It mirrors the source material (river city ransom) but injects some interesting and unique mechanics that make it its own game. The 3-D really pops and the town elements are a little deeper than RCR. Being able to play co-op is a plus. The game needs a lot of work, but for the price, it's not a bad way to start. I hope the developer sticks with this because it has the makings of a great game.
I love this game... SO MUCH! It is amazing. The 3D / 8-Bit effect is crazy awesome. You can pick up anything and use it as a weapon... Oh and then there are weapons! So far I'm on Playset two and I cant wait to see where this is going. Dont get me wrong, It is early access. That being said it is very good. Not sure why no one knows about this game?? IT'S CRAZY AWESOME! There are tons of unlockables and secrets. I will be back once I get a little further in the game.
This game was reviewed using a code sent by the developer/publisher but this will NOT effect my opinion/review on this game

Review on behalf of Opium Pulses

Pulsing Through Your Games.

Pros:

– Beat thugs up for no reason.
– Good song in it but does get annoying to listen to after a few hours
– Fair bit of content for early access.
– 3D Graphics with 2D graphics works.
– Some fun weapons to use to beat up enemies.
– If you have a problem the devs will fix it asap.
– 3D goggle mode.
Please don’t take these cons so seriously as the Devs may change some of my cons in the future after Early Access Review
Cons:

– Not many options like windowed mode ect.
– No tutorial.
– No real objective apart from
Kicking some ass

– Does get respective after a while.
– The
Cops
are op as they have unlimited health.
– Be nice for an arrow to show you a way to go if you get lost.
– Be nice if the buttons came up as Xbox ones as I’m playing on a controller.
Conclusion:
This game is different and I like that if you follow my reviews and this is different shame it doesn’t all be there but im sure as a community we can help make this game into something really fun to play. Despite how nice the visuals are handled, with good pixel art and the 3d effects are wonderful when there is plenty of decor aroundl, It's not really a good choice for the seasoned brawler wanting challenge when you can just beat up anything damageable, but if you're aching for a colorfukl casual pick me up. This is your game. :D I'd however wait until the bugs and rebalance (Especially with the weapons) comes in. Here, have a complementary gameplay video. https://youtu.be/Nqss2DIaeFA
I pretty much only play retro games anymore and this game does not disappoint. Plenty of content in early access for 7.99.
What is it? A pixel art beat'em up where you save Crimson City from an invasion. Pros: Some of the best looking pixel art Controls work fine Eaasy to get into Plenty of funny references Cheap Meh: Sound could use some more variety (what is in the game is fine, but variety is the spice of life) Con: Diffilculty, or rather the lack of it: While it is fine for a game to start off easy and then gradually tighten the screw like this one does, unfortunately it waits too long to do so. Upgrades are available pretty early on, making things even easier in the early levels (or playsets as they are called here). Bugs: The by far most egregious one: Stun lockable bosses. AI has pathing issues ( for example they can't tell the difference between a low and a high fence and try to jump the high ones which they can't). Some typos in the story. Some achievements are missing images. Over all I had fun with the game and it is dirt cheap, so I'll recommend it. But I'll add a caveat to that recommendation: It is probably more geared towards older players like me who will enjoy the references to things like TMNT, Power Rangers, The Action figure craze, Arcades and such.
I have to say as a long time gamer, I love this game. It evokes a bit of nostalgia from old NES days and offers some really unique looking aesthetics. It is early access so there are some occasional bugs and glitches but overall it's well worth the buy and I want to see where they take things. It has lots of playable characters that are unlocked through gameplay (as opposed to how other games do this via DLC) which really adds to my fondness for this game! I love finding secrets and unlocking skills/characters. It does take a little bit of getting used to as things can sometimes appear a bit cluttered but overall it has solid gameplay which makes it a good game to pick up and play whenever you feel the need for some old style baddie bashing fun. If you like beat-em up games that are a bit retro-ish, give this one a shot, it's worth the price of admission!
