Reviews
A reasonably competent platformer, set in a dream/spirit world and tied to Samí and Norse myth. Platforming is pretty good, if a bit floaty. You have a jump and a glide innate, and in the first two chapters unlock double jump as part of the story. In the other chapters you start with double jump. In the
final chapter, you get extensions to those abilities
. There's a shadow to show where you'll land, but it won't show unless you're fairly close to the platform. The glide makes it very lenient, so the platforming is not very difficult at all. Collectibles lead to most of the secrets so they're not well hidden. Finally there's some minor puzzle mechanics in some chapters, nothing difficult. Overall the game is easy to play so that you can enjoy the world. There's one problem with one of the platforming elements, and that are wind streams used in one of the mid-game chapters. These wind streams would catch you and pull you along before you get very close to them, and they were very inconsistent about where it dropped you off. I had quite a few "deaths" from being put somewhere irrecoverable by a wind stream in that chapter. I hope this gets looked at. I found it a bit odd that it pulled in so much Norse mythology into the story, but it was still mostly enjoyable. I like the look and mood of each zone. Unfortunately I was not fond of the voice acting the narration in English. I need to try subtitled to see how it sounds. Aside from the wind issue, the only other possible bug is I didn't get the achievement for getting all the collectibles, unless rainbow medals on each chapter count as collectibles too. It ran fine on the default Proton, slightly CPU intensive (some fan ramp) but no other issues with performance on my machine.
This is a solid 3D platformer collectathon game, and was a lot of fun. Nice colorful graphics too. But for some reason, the Kind Noaidi achievement won't pop for me. I got all the collectibles for every level, including the rainbow star for each level and all of Rohttu's chests opened. Any way I can try to get these achievements to pop? Edit: The developer was very responsive and did a patch that fixed the achievements! Thank you very much!
Edit: The developer has gone out of their way to fix the issues I ran into. Although I unfortunately lost my save, I did have fun with the game up to the point where I ran into issues, and as they are hopefully fixed now, I'm going to go ahead and recommend the game. I'll leave my original review below for posterity. Thank you to the developer for their hard work, and I wish them great success. ------------ Original review: When I bought this game, there were no reviews, and I grabbed it with the hope that it would be a fun, cozy little platformer that wasn't getting any love and I could give a little attention to. While I got that for the most part, the sixth stage left me unable to complete the game, which really soured me on the experience. Let's start with the good parts. Movement feels pretty good (if a bit slow), which is definitely important for a platformer. The story is cute, and gives children's TV vibes, with each level being an episode. I played with English voice acting and quite enjoyed it. The levels are colorful and reasonably fun to explore, and in general don't overstay their welcome. There were a few minor bugs I ran into during play, but these at least didn't ruin things. The platforms that you reassemble and then bounce you up would sometimes bounce you in a random direction instead of the direction you were moving. In the level with the much bigger wind currents, they would sometimes dump you in a place that would cause you to fall into a bottomless pit instead of where you were supposed to land. Not a huge issue, checkpoints are plentiful and it never happened to me twice in a row. The problem came with the sixth level. There were puzzles where you had to hit switches to turn mirrors and point light at giants to make them move. The last puzzle seems to be bugged for me, as it was uncompletable. It was the most complex one, with 6 buttons. Each button can set mirrors into 2 states, so a total of 2^6 = 64 configurations. I tried to solve it legit at first, but couldn't get the light to hit all three targets simultaneously. I then tried to brute force it, since trying 64 configurations doesn't take that long, and none of them solved the puzzle. Unfortunately, this meant I couldn't progress in the level, and since you have to complete each level to access the next, I couldn't finish the game. I tried to see if I could just platform around the giant, but there's enough invisible walls to make it impossible to progress without solving the puzzle, at least with my skills. I can't in good conscience recommend a game that, as far as I can tell, can't be completed. If this gets fixed, I'll be fine to go back and finish it, and then I probably would recommend it, but as it stands, it's a no from me.
