The systems in this game are so inventive. It's different from any RPG I've ever played. Choosing your equipment is extremely important since each piece of gear has its own set of active and passive abilities. It might help you cause damage, heal, generate aggro, create resources to use other abilities, or inflict buffs, debuffs, and status effects. There is a lot to think about whenever you find new equipment. Recruiting new characters is fun for the same reason since each of them has their own unique combination of passive and active abilities. If you played the first Quester game, this one is very similar, although it does have a few new features. So if you are only going to play one, it might as well be this one. Exploring the sprawling, maze-like world is fun! The game generates mystery with simple graphics and very little text.

Get this or the first game but not both. I'm giving this a thumbs up because I like the formula at its core, but honestly it should've just been $5-10 DLC for QUESRTER since it's basically the same game (most of the same characters and equipment and I'm pretty sure exactly the same skills/abilities) just taking place in a different dungeon with a higher difficulty (I might've just gotten unlucky with drops and stat rolls though). Although that statement (same game except xyz ) is true of a lot of computer RPGs from the 80s and 90s (it still sucked then too I assure you), this game was released in 2024 and apparently made in Unity so in my opinion there's no "excuse." FWIW I recommend picking the 4th or 5th team to start (4th if you've played the first game, 5th if you haven't been playing hack and slash dungeon crawlers for 30+ years... but understand what grinding/leveling/farming is and why you might want/have to do it). The first team is the same starting team as in the first game so it's also fine here, but it lacks even more punch this time around than it did there and the 5th team has the same class composition but "better" characters IMO. Either way I'd say that if your characters don't have 6 AP by level 30 then swap them out for someone who does unless it's your tank (riot police are *fine* at 5 ap although 6 is obviously still better). I used the third team and forced myself to take 4/5 of them to the end of the game as a challenge (swapped Sasuke out for the teddy bear policeman, should've ditched Ekko...) and the average level they got 6 AP at was 50.... I'd estimate that alone added about 5 hours onto my play time whereas switching 2-4 characters and leveling them up at that point would not have taken more than 2 hours so meh.
I just love indie games. This one has a refreshingly different look and game-play loop. Good game! If I get my $1/hr of entertainment value out of it, it will be a great game! :D
It's kind of a budget-looking hardcore dungeon crawl, but it's surprisingly satisfying to play. Everything is a little bare bones but evocative. The first hour or so is kind of unforgiving, but once you know what to expect, I think things become a little more intuitive. Party composition is very important, as is equipping your questers appropriately as most skills and resources are derived from your loadout. A few things are kind of odd - safes replenish their contents every day, as do all other resource locations on the map, so the game is a little kinder than it might initially appear. Running from battles is easy and recommended to preserve your resources. You should be able to watch one or two gameplay videos and know if this game is going to be in your wheelhouse or not. It's not going to be for everyone, but if you've enjoyed Etrian Odyssey or other similar dungeon crawlers, Quester | Osaka might be for you.
