one of the best games of all time
I really enjoyed the sort of pacing of story and gameplay, in a way which seem notable compared to a lot of games. I really enjoy it for its cast of characters, and think that within the scope of the game it does an extremely good job of giving you some interesting choices. I think there are way that those choices could feel unimportant, but the game brought me into the roleplaying part of it well, despite me often struggling characterize a character in games.

Wasn't sure going into this, I liked Supergiant's other stuff so I figured I might give this a try. Great game. While its not my favorite in terms of gameplay when compared to Supergiant's other games, it has to be my favorite in terms of characters and story, music and art are on par with their other games as well. Sad that this one seems to fly under the radar so much, to me it's an absolutely must-play. May you find freedom, reader.
Very cool, very somber, very interesting. Truthfully more of a visual novel than an action, but I love the characters and world a lot. It does provide a lot of interesting choices you have to make, not knowing what really will be the best option or if it'll even matter.
I actually think it's really interesting the paradox of freeing those you know, or learning more about them.
If you like story games I think this one is for you, the actual gameplay is very limited (maybe 1/5 of the game do you actually do something I feel like?) and got a little repetitive at the end for me. That being said, it works well for what it's doing. The art and music is outstanding as well. I am very glad I eventually got around to playing this one.
Years after playing it, I still think about this game. It's very emotionally affecting, and I'm surprised by how much I took from only 16 hours of play time. The format of part visual novel, part sports game is unusual, but works perfectly as a core gameplay loop. It also cleverly subverts the usual arc of growing power in games, where "winning" actually weakens your squad and comes with an emotional hit. Combined with memorable characters, and the always excellent Darren Korb + Ashley Barrett music, it makes for a must play in the Supergiant catalogue.
Recommend. Soundtracks, VAs and world design are fantastic
This is a fantastic game and its one of the most beautiful way to write lore for a made up universe. The art style is amazing and in character with the other SuperGiant games the music is glorious. I just wish the game wasn't so damn repetitive. You basically go through a season of this sport and you have to do it every time per character, albeit after the first one the seasons end up being under half in length, that's still about 7 or 8 times you "re-do" the game. Yes, there are differences and things that change, but it still feels like playing the same game over and over and over nonstop with increasing difficulty just for the "good ending".
