This is a tough one. It hasn't made me feel anything other than boredom. Don't get me wrong, I really like walking simulators, but this one... There is absolutely nothing happening. Either the scenery nor the atmosphere had me gasping. This just wasn't my cup of coffee. At least the graphics are nice.
Well that wasn't really anything, even by Walking Simulator standards.
Здесь нет ускорения. И вообще «движения персонажа» - может быть, «камера» и «движение» это только метафоры чего-то другого. Зато есть очень вкусное освещение и шумы, от которых таешь в наушниках – настолько они кажутся удивительнее того, что каждый день слышишь, но не прислушиваешься. *** ...притормозить, чтобы вслушаться – совсем не в игре, но она подсказывает: «…появившаяся из личного разговора деда и внука, в которой вы путешествуете сквозь их сны и воспоминания». Прислушаться к себе и к Другому – одно и то же. Так или иначе, медленность можно оценить, только если она будет радикальной в своей неудобности – например, при отсутствии кнопки «побыстрее». Или если ты старик. (В этом Promesa словно откликается на завещание своего дальнего предка - The Graveyard) Пустоты, из которых складывается путешествие жизни – очень личные, передаренные Другому в разговоре по душам, вроде рассказов наших дедушек и бабушек об их ежедневном хождении в школу через 30 километров дикой тайги, только ведь это совсем малая часть их истории - наверное, Promesa о чем-то подобном. Галерея дел, чувств, забот, мест и вещей – с почти японской по духу "печальной очарованностью" ими – совершенно ничьими и остраненными, какими они могли бы быть за пределами наших воспоминаний и попыток вжиться в чужие, представив себя на месте тех, кто их собирал – и отпустил на волю, как сны, освободил от себя;
Promesa me hizo sentir nostalgia.
A short, deeply personal walking simulator inspired by developer Julián Palacios Gechtman's conversation with his grandfather, exploring memory, immigration, aging, loss, homesickness and generational distance. Moving through dreamlike recreations of Italy and Argentina, you experience disconnected homes, streets and surreal spaces while brief text passages evoking memories, regrets and nostalgia. It's a poetic collection of vignettes and it resembles Gone Home and Dear Esther in its environmental storytelling, but leans closer to LSD: Dream Emulator in its unpredictable spatial and temporal flow, where places connect through discontinuity rather than a coherent physical space. Its main narrative influence is Tarkovsky's Mirror, whose poetic montage moves freely between past, dreams and visions, leaving meaning open to interpretation. Its greatest strength is its atmosphere. High-definition models combined with PS1/Saturn-like low-resolution textures and superb Unity lighting create a bizarrely compelling, liminal aesthetic. Carefully recreated places (from Milanese courtyards and apartments around Corso XXII Marzo to Cesano Maderno, Verona and middle-class Buenos Aires) feel tangible: old tiles, air conditioners, parked cars, a Vespa, sunlit kitchens, pigeons and empty rooms. Traffic, rain, barking dogs, distant neighbours and household sounds make these otherwise empty spaces feel tangible. The acoustic soundtrack (by Domiziano Maselli), using piano, double bass, zither and harmonium, is beautiful and nostalgic, but short and sparsely used. At its best, Promesa feels like walking inside someone else's memories, prompting you to recall insignificant sounds, objects and places from your own life. The gameplay is almost nonexistent: you simply walk painfully slowly through each scene until it fades to black, with no interaction or meaningful exploration. Even increasing the movement speed to +40% barely helps; long corridors become especially tedious and the uncertainty of when a scene will end can discourage exploration. The vignettes can also feel disconnected, with the relationship between text and environments often unclear; without the intertitles, the supposed grandfather-grandson conversation can be almost incomprehensible. It frequently feels like the developer has the missing context that the player does not, making the experience feel more personal to its creator than its audience. The result is a haunting, intimate art piece rather than much of a game, sometimes resembling a slideshow or a '90s multimedia CD-ROM more than a walking simulator. Its personal nature is admirable, but the sparse storytelling, lack of interaction and unbearable pace prevent its considerable artistic promise from becoming a fully satisfying experience. 3.5/10
Touches on some interesting topics relating to loss, death, and regrets. My only problem is that this is less of 'walking simulator' and more of a hobble simulator (then walking is so slow, even with the 40% increase in the settings). The slow movement speed sets a pace, and allows for the ambient sounds to be more impactful, but there were definitely times when the game ran out of ambient sounds and, for a bit, you awkwardly walk silently towards the next door
