Game has improved a ton since the terrible launch. its actually drivable now and pretty fun. better with every update. the career mode is fun and makes you feel like you are actually earning something. AI scaling needs improvement... but overall, its shaping up to be a good game
The game is impoving with every update. graphics preformance is also improving. dont buy if you are expecting AM2 maturity. I am in this for the long haul, so as long as there is some progress I am happy.I like seeing development. I am now getting stable 60fps on an old i74790k and rtx 3060 with decent settings. I would like to reach 90fps. There are elements of the current game i really like. haptics on controller are good, steering needs some work. My wish is they include a dedicate arcade mode vs simulation mode. realism is a myth in sim racing, i want fun
Hidden gem approved! Immersion, sound, and the racing feel are top-notch! CPU issues: The more AI you have, the more bugs occur (e.g., flickering, tire abrasion, overtaking). Fix: Limiting AI-driven cars to fewer than 20 solved all crucial issues and massively improved the experience. Rain: Visual rendering remains problematic. Collisions: Just Average. Clarification: Project Motor Racing gave me the best racing sim experience I ever had under certain conditions. I recently played AMS2, AC, ACC, ACR, AC Evo, rFactor2, RaceRoom, Dirt 2, etc.—just to name a few. I am fully aware that every other game is rated better on Steam. All tested in 4k. Version: 2.0.0.6
Right, after Aris joined the team (because I trust that guy so much) I decided to buy PMR and give it a go. Now, there's a lot of negatives but also a lot of positives. In my opinion the most positive of all the aspect is of all the FFB,(depends on the car) it's quite good, it's progressive and you can feel the suspension loading up pretty well. Unfortunately though the game doesn't run great and there's quite few visual flaws, especially around the tracks, (also AI is way to slow) I like the career mode, please keep working on it because if there's one thing sim racing is missing at the moment is that. Looking forward for the next updates.
Firstly, I have all the other Sims..so I'm not naive to the market standard. Each game is different in feel, PMR has impressed me with the noticeable difference in the car depending on your tyre temperature. To me, PMR feels like AMS and GT7, it realistic and fun. Sometimes a realistic sim can be a grind and you really need to have your head in that space (LMU). PMR is challenging though, the tyre model took a while for me to adapt to but now I have, I really enjoy understanding the cars limits and being rewarded for my good judgement. I love the menus and UI, it's clean and feels premium compared to other titles. Cars and tracks look good, ESPECIALLY IN VR!! this is where the game really starts to shine, there is an experimental VR mode that's very early stages but already performing very well. This has the potential to be one of the best VR driving Sims, WITH A CAREER!! My only gripe so far would be the opponent AI, there's quite a lot of avoidable collisions I've experienced. Overall, I keep coming back to this because it's fun to drive, well done to the Devs for sticking at their work and improving the game. I would encourage anyone contemplating buying the game to at least give it a chance, steam has a great refund policy...I don't think you will need it.
It's much improved compared to the last time I played. The graphics are better, and especially the frame rates. As for the physics and force feedback (FFB), they're excellent. From this point on, only further refinements are needed. I also consider it a more worthwhile choice than AC EVO.
I would say first off the career mode is pretty fun. I do like the AI they are pretty competitive and I don't win every single race or get pole position very often. But, the penalty system really does suck. I have been pushed of track and lost time to cars behind and will still have to lift of throttle for more than 3 seconds, very annoying. You also just can't push hard at all, I look at replays and there are times where not even all 4 wheels go off and I would get penalized. But, great amount of cars and different racing series. But, another large negative would be online. I don't think this game is refined in any way for online. It feels like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport, just very rambunctious system with meaningless points. I wish it had a bit more of importance because I love racing against other but it doesn't. No penalty for hitting others at all, damage system is kind of stupid, you can go through a car that is ghosted and still get damaged. There are a lot of flaws, but it has a lot of potential, I hope the game developers actually look at reviews and see what they can fix. Would still rather play this than iRacing any day.
Better and better... Gamepad control isn't bad. Not all vehicles are easy, but that's just how it is. I've found a few that I really enjoy driving with the minimal assists. :) The AI isn't disastrous, maybe not even bad. But there's a lot of room for improvement here. And this could be one of the most important missions of PMR. We have countless simulators, but really smart and good AI is only in iRacing. :) Of course, I understand that it takes time, money and horses, but if they can even get close to it once, that would be brilliant. The goal should at least be to be the best and smartest that is rationally achievable. Smart, varied, even with bold stops and tactics, the AI shouldn't do things like unnecessarily pitting or coming out 3 laps before the end of a long race because it ran out of fuel. It could be that they make mistakes in the pits sometimes. Not often, but it could be. We want authentic races. Living and breathing events. The graphics are pretty good in some places, pretty bad in others. The sky and clouds are pretty bad. Sometimes (example evning) they are beautiful, but we all see they could be better everall. The career is cool, better. I just started it, but I'm sad that there's no option to create a separate custom championship. It would be cool, with tables, statistics. AMS2 has a basic game mode like this, we'd like something like that, but much more impressively developed. I don't think it would be that big of a task. The other thing that would be important is to have the windshield dirty, to have immersion, to have real dynamics. After all, it's just a motorsport game, so let's treat it that way. I think for many of us it doesn't matter that much that we play with the most beautiful game, but the experience should be lasting, memorable... I think it would be good to have more weather "slots", as much customization as possible. No need to exaggerate, I understand that there are priorities, but you also have to stand out from the rest. I think it would be a good idea to be able to shape the AI field within the game. You create your own field, you specify how good someone should be in the 100, qualifying, race, how constant, how bold, how good in the rain, how often they make mistakes, how quickly they eat their tires... So if the existing base is good, then with about a couple of vehicles and more tracks, or something like that, the game will simply be unfathomable. I'm going to go play a little now, because although it's still a long way to go, I think it can already be fun. I hope for the best. :) Plus: I think that different assists would be needed for gamepad control. There are such assists in LMU, ACC and I could list more... Some of the cars are not bad with the existing aids, but there are also real powerhouses here.
What can I say? I really like the program, and I'm having fun blasting around in cars I've not driven before in sims, as well as the challenge of the career mode layout. It's improved a lot since originally owning a day-one copy on PlayStation. I've already recommended it to a friend who is also enjoying it now. I'm looking forward to what's to come from Straight 4's Project.
I really like PMR. The car selection is unique with the Dodge Vipers, TVR, Moslers, Lister Storm, Group C, GTE etc etc. Exactly what I want as I grew up in 90s with these cars (modern GT cars are a bore for me, I have high end gear and doing heel toe with the oldschool cars is great). I couldent careless about the negative reviews, its a great driving sim/game. Handling feels like AC Evo/ Raceroom to me and FFB is good on my Simagic Alpha. Only issue I have had is some equipment not working (Simworx GT wheel doesent work but Simworx pedals are good to go). My Simagic stuff is great. I cant wait for more tracks though. Yeah so my verdict is that its really good. Glad to add PMR to me sim collection.
