very short for the price.
At a Glance Recommendation: Recommended with Caveats Best For: Players looking for a short, fully gay visual novel with two wholesome romance routes and explicit M/M content. Not For: Players seeking a longer visual novel, slower relationship development, or a game that makes full use of its prison setting. Playtime: Approximately 1 to 2 hours to see every ending and earn every achievement. MLM Tags: MLM, M4M, Visual Novel, Gay-Male Fantasy Space, Romance, Sex-Forward, Short Game 💬 Supportive Caveat Prison 69 - 24 Hours In Jail is a brief, sincere visual novel that works best as a compact gay romance rather than a fully developed prison drama. I enjoyed my time with it and think it is worth supporting, though the regular asking price feels high for the amount of content, so I recommend waiting for a sale. 🎮 Gameplay & Genre This is a straightforward choice-driven visual novel centered on Antony, a young man taken into custody without understanding why, and two romance routes: one with Christopher, the prison doctor, and the other with Marco, Antony's cellmate. The game includes six endings and six Steam achievements. Aside from making dialogue choices, there are no gameplay mechanics beyond reading the story. Completion is fairly quick thanks to the built-in skip function, although two endings require some surprisingly specific choices that can be difficult to discover naturally. 🔥 M/M Content This is very much a gay romance. Antony is clearly attracted exclusively to men, Christopher is explicitly gay, and Marco strongly reads as gay even if the game never labels him such outrightly. Both routes are consensual, optimistic, and conclude with satisfying epilogues that show life continuing after the events of the story. I also appreciated the character variety. Antony is an Asian man, something still uncommon in M/M visual novels, while Marco is Black and Christopher appears possibly Latino or racially ambiguous. The body types range from Antony's slimmer build to Christopher's average build and Marco's more athletic physique. The game is clearly more interested in telling an affectionate romance than creating a darker prison exploitation fantasy. 🎨 Visuals & Style The 3D models fall squarely into the middle of the indie M/M visual novel space. They look noticeably better than some lower-budget projects without reaching the polish of the strongest examples in the genre, and the presentation is clean and attractive overall. 🗣️ Tone & Writing The writing succeeds because it is earnest. The story focuses on two surprisingly sweet romances that leave both routes feeling hopeful by the end. Its biggest weakness is pacing: the entire story unfolds in roughly a day and a half, so both romances move from strangers to committed partners with very little time to breathe. With more space between the initial attraction, emotional trust, and epilogues, the romances would land more naturally. The script could also benefit from another proofreading and continuity pass. I noticed one intimate scene referring to the receptive partner as "she," and the game repeatedly uses "jail" and "prison" interchangeably despite those being different settings with different legal implications. That distinction matters more here because Antony has been taken into custody without understanding why. 👍 Best Thing For such a short game, it manages to balance a lot of explicit content with a surprising amount of heart. 👎 Worst Thing The short runtime leaves the romances feeling more rushed than they need to be. ⭐ Final Verdict Prison 69 - 24 Hours In Jail is a pleasant, fully gay visual novel with two sincere romance routes, explicit M/M content, and satisfying epilogues. Its strongest quality is also where I most wanted more: the developer clearly wanted to tell a sweet story about unexpected love, but the relationships would benefit from more time to develop. Even so, the heart is clearly in the right place, and players looking for a quick, affectionate M/M visual novel will likely find something to enjoy here. I thought it was fine for the price. The writing is alright and I enjoyed both good endings (took me awhile to figure out one bad ending; there are four, two per romancable character). I will say that the doctor ending is a bit underwhelming after I got to the cellmate one. You get a flash forward for that one and a bit of dialog and CGs of them together. Meanwhile you just look at a piece of paper for the doctor with a message on it. In comparison it falls short (I got that one first). But getting it first I did think it was cute. It let me down after getting the other good ending being better. There is however issues with CGs not triggering. I had some missing after all endings and curious I looked in the game files and the CGs I missed were part of something I was going to mention as a problem. That the CGs didn't advance properly so the text would describe something and then it wouldn't be happening, but I think it's just the CGs didn't trigger probably that is the actual problem. There is still an issue of a few CGs not following what they say. "We undressed" for example, but they were already undressed. Or "we got dressed" and they are still naked after. It's a small thing, but that always irks me. And there was one text box where the character had female pronouns the whole time. But other than that it was fine and I enjoyed it.
