The good: The music The bad: everything else. Typos all over, With regards to controls you have to choose between terrible unchangeable keyboard binds or unresponsive gameplay with a controller. Poor gameplay design... Although the game is cheap and is therefore expected to be short, 2 hours of gameplay is still very little content for the price of 5 dollars. If you're reading this, you are a huge metroidvania fan who has reached the bottom of the barrel and hoping there are still a few more metroidvanias worth playing. There might be some, but this game is definitely not one of them.

As a simple game in the retro style, Prehistoric Dude's greatest strength may be how open the map is despite its small size. While you'll have to get keys and items, you have your choice of directions to search, and each area is self-contained despite the openness. Want to go to the room above you? Below you? To your right? Usually each one is an option. There are some odd design choices, such as limited ammo. You'll get random drops while walking through grass, but once something drops, you have to turn around to go grab it. Automatically grabbing on to one-tile high walls is annoying. The control is better than the retro games we know and love, but it's still finicky. Prehistoric Dude is a charming and simple metroidvania. I almost want to think of it more as a platformer, something like if Ducktales had been a metroidvania.

Good game. It is exactly what it looks like and is sold as being. A mini metroidvania.

Pretty short and fairly easy, but it's cute and it was fun. Hope the team that made it continues to grow and produce more.

Fun casual difficulty metroidvania. Short game with about 2 hrs worth of content. Can be played and completed in one sitting. The controls are good and the enemy units are fun. I love developer lightUp's range of short games and I'm glad to see many releases from them. The game is slightly buggy when it comes to collision detection but doesn't affect your gameplay too much.

Literally the mini-est of mini-metroidvanias in my collection. It seems so far to reward being as methodical as possible, which I'll have to get used to. Just have to resist the urge to go HAM on everything (pun absolutely intended), and I'll do just fine. It's charming enough that I want to see it through.
