This is not a $50 game. Knock it down to $30 and I might pick it back up when it's on sale for $10-15. I was really hoping this might be solid, but it's incredibly basic all around (although I'm not sure what can realistically be done in a pickleball video game).
This game is UGLY. The fact that they are charging $50.00 for this is a joke. I had high hopes for this but it did not even come close to meeting expectations.
This is an absolute disgrace to the game of pickleball... The character models are horrible, the custom characters glitch out. The ball goes out of frame on lobs and has no indication of depth on the court. Not being able to choose your shot selection on anything up at the net is a horrible mechanic. The PPA should be embarrassed to put their name on this product. Not to mention $50 so you could play 2 venues?!?!?

PPA Pickleball Tour 2025 can't really be recommended, but there is some fun to be had if you're a pickleball enthusiast. The game has a solid foundation and does a pretty fair job of replicating the "feel" of playing a game of pickleball, but falls way short nearly everywhere else. The game feels like a game still in the development phase. Graphics: 2/10 Nothing much to say here. The graphics remind me of a Dreamcast game. If that doesn't bother you, it's not a big deal, though it is staggering how basic they are in the modern age. There are a fair amount of real pickleball pros in this game, but few of them really remotely resemble their real life counterpart. Depth perception on ball height is awful, better shadow rendering on the ball would go a long ways to help this. Sound: 5/10 The background music is serviceable but much like elevator music. The commentary is pretty good but the volume levels are not equalized on several comments and some seem very loud for no reason. The main miss here is that in order to somewhat get the "sound" of pickleball, you have to adjust the audio to turn everything except the sound effects WAY down to even hear anything that closely resembles the trademark "pop" of a pickleball paddle striking the ball. Big miss here... dinks do not sound much different than drives. This would have gone a long way to really getting the "feel" element right. Gameplay: 5/10 The name of the game is "potential" here, but it just isn't here for a finished $50 product, it feels more like what I would expect to get for a $10-$20 game. The player movement feels floaty and loose, and there isn't a good feeling feedback loop animation wise, with all of the strikes of the ball feeling very disconnected from the player/paddle moving about the court. That said, it does a fair job of replicating the strategy of playing the baseline game or transitioning into the kitchen line to play the soft game, and you can play either style, especially in singles matches. I actually really enjoy the "mini game" that comes into play as you transition to the kitchen line, and the game does a fair job of replicating the fast reflexes you need to dink and do speed-ups, but the transition into the kitchen game often means you hit the wrong button as you transition into a dink battle or fire fight. Also, there's no real way to reset or lob at this point to go back into a base line game, once you're at the kitchen, the point will be won or lost at the kitchen. No real ability to spin the ball on serves or drives. You can only do your basic drive, hard drive, drop, and lob. Would be nice to have more variety in serve style... as a custom player, your character just performs a random style of serve each time, sometimes open stance, sometimes closed, etc. Career mode feels very bare bones but serviceable. It's essentially just a tournament mode. Character Customization: 6/10 There are a surprising amount of character customization options, and you can also design your doubles and mixed doubles partner. They share the same stats that you do. There are a tolerable amount of paddle types you can use, but they are for aesthetics only. Also... you can't make left-handed players... really? That makes no sense. All in all, if you're a hardcore pickleball fan with extra cash to spend, you might find some enjoyment from this game, but if you're a casual pickleball fan or gamer in general, this game will feel like hot garbage. I personally have found some fun with it and am mostly enjoying it, but I see this more as a prototype for what I hope will be the platform to build on rather than a finished, polished game. I am glad to see that the development team is actively working on improving the game, however, so maybe it's not a bad idea to stay tuned and see if they listen to the player feedback.
After playing this for a few hours, I can say that this game really does replicate the fun of pickleball on the screen. It scratches that pickleball itch. The tutorials do a great job of explaining how everything works in pickleball, from basic rules to advanced strategies. What's really interesting are the firefights where you're hitting the ball rapidly back and forth in an exciting minigame. I thought they translated this part of the sport into the video game really well. I found the tournament mode to be difficult at first, but then I found that I was learning something on every attempt to get better and go further. I suggest putting your first character points into the stat that lets you move easier around the court. The tournaments feature a lot of recognizable names. The character customization is also pretty awesome and advanced. There's a lot of branded gear to choose from including paddles and shoes, and you can fine tune almost every part of your character's body or use presets. Oh, the commentator voices are great too. They sound natural and don't get tiring. Overall, I love it! It's something I can pick up and play for 15 minutes when I have a moment and want to scratch the pickleball itch at home! I'll update this as I play more
I have had really high expectations for this game since I'm a passionate pickleball player. The game is a good start to a what will hopefully be a great game in future years. I hope they continue to make the gameplay, realism and career mode better.
It's almost not bad. The out of bounds is wildly inconsistent; The dink battle and firefight mini-games are mind-numbing; The player models are almost not horrifying to look at. Whoever decided that this is worth $50 is a con-artist. There IS some fun to be had here, but not enough to where I want to keep this game in my library.
PPA Pickleball Steam customer service is pathetic. Multiplayer function doesn't work as in its advertising. Played solo for 3 hours then invited a friend over to play and then found it out. Support referred me to Faesight support that couldn't fix it. So I asked for a refund. Automated response keeps coming back Can't give you credit because you played it for more than two hours, refusing to explain how you are suppose to find out multiplayer doesn't work until you have somebody over to play with??? i used to be a very happy customer, now I'm pissed after 5 emails to their Automaton
Does anybody remember when Rockstar made that Table Tennis game? Well, Pepperidge Farm remembers, and I have missed that s**t for a long time! I hoped this game would scratch that itch, and it totally does. Is it perfect? Nope! Can I execute what feels like the exact same play multiple times in a row and get different results (mostly me hitting the ball out of bounds)...yep. Are the animations synch'd to the impact of the racket against the ball? Not really... But, does it have a great visceral feel to it? A resounding hell yes. I really dig the dynamic quick time/timed press events (firefights and dinks), and even though I wish that the ball consistently had a shadow or something additional to help relate player position to where the ball was, the controls are very intuitive, and the gameplay is fun and fast-paced. I like the rogue-lite element with leveling up your character stats by gaining XP even after a loss. A few minor wishlist items: - Firefights display all four face buttons, but dinks do not...this hurts my brain since I am primarily a Switch player; I wish that dinks would also display all the face buttons in a diamond. - It would be sweet if both dink and firefight engagement had a signature sound to them so the player could slightly anticipate if they were about to need to do a quick time event (firefight) or a timed button press (dink) - The ball position relative to the player is sometimes a little tricky to determine, especially on those drop shots, not sure if this is an issue with the ball shadow consistently rendering, but it seems like it might be. - A lot of times I feel like I am doing the same shot consistently, but whether or not the ball goes out of bounds feels almost random. Not sure if it is, but maybe the aiming could use a little polish...haptic feedback? I am very much looking forward to the live service evolution of this game; I love a lot of games like windjammers, table tennis, rocket league, etc...visceral twitch-based sports games are just a great time with friends or solo! Well done, FarSight!! As my beloved announcer in-game would say, "Absolute filth!" Cheers!
