best game oat
My favorite game of all time, truly one of a kind. I'm on my second full playthrough right now and I'm having so much fun. The voice acting, the story, the setting, the gameplay - everything's 10/10. But I probably love its humor the most.
funny
Much like with the first game, I'm not particularly blown away, but everything definitely got an upgrade. One notably great thing about the first game was its puzzle design. This one is no different. While this game has the advantage of relying on puzzle mechanics established in the first game, it still takes time to introduce several more that are not only interesting and fun to learn in their own right, but extend existing mechanics in interesting ways too. The improvement in graphical fidelity was by no means needed but also very much appreciated. There's actually a decent amount of music now, and while it's fine in itself, I think it could augment the mood a bit better overall, and the audio settings only allow for it to be loud enough to hear well unless everything else is blaringly loud too. Similarly, what exists of the story is also fine but I would've liked more depth. I realize the game's focus is on its puzzles, but the story is still there, and I think it's underdeveloped. If specifically the narrative was pursued more, I think the whole game could've been more impactful overall. Nonetheless, I appreciate how some of the game is dedicated to elaborating its universe, because it's a step up from the mere fact that there's a robot that wants to kill you. What I really like about this game is how much more they incorporated puzzles into natural environments. Creating puzzles that can still be readily solved when you're not in the confines of a sanitized test chamber by properly communicating mechanics to the player is a testament to some good game design. So while I still didn't find this sequel particularly incredible, Portal 2 is still an engaging, well-crafted, enjoyable experience.
