About
Polytropos: A Tactical Odyssey is a roguelite turn-based strategy RPG. Echidna, mother of monsters, has unleashed myriad foes across the Aegean. Olympus calls for aid - recruit armies, cultivate skills, and invoke divine aid to save the realm and become a legendary hero!
In Polytropos: A Tactical Odyssey, each playthrough brings you new randomly generated enemies, events, and allies. Your decisions will shape the encounters you face and the development of your hero. Your hero will acquire heroic epithets granting permanent unique effects and learn godly prophecies to turn fights in your favor.
Battles will be won and lost by the strategies you employ. Fight from a distance with a force of archers, or send flying units in to disrupt enemy formations. Hinder your enemies by casting powerful prophecies, or turn your hero into a one-person army and wreak havoc. After each crisis, new boons are earned, allowing you to continually adjust your approach to find success.
Each Patron offers distinct prophecies, units, and epithets to your hero. Behold the pantheon:
Athena uses strong, defensive units. Her powers aid allied troops and enable clever strategies.
Zeus has fast, flying allies. His powers deal high damage to enemies, or increase the mobility of allies.
Archers and wild beasts compose Artemis' army. Her nature-oriented powers heal allies and hinder enemies.
Ares has powerful, offense-oriented forces. His powers promote reckless aggression and direct heroism.
Poseidon balances a mixture of mobile and hardy units. He uses large, sweeping prophecies to dominate conflicts.
Hades summons vast undead hordes. He can control death itself, and bring forth the riches of the Underworld.
Only 4 Patrons are available during each playthrough, so every odyssey offers new, powerful combinations for you to explore. In addition, all patrons have unique synergy effects - for example, having 3 or more Ares units grants Indomitable, causing all your units to become stronger when attacked.
Triumphant odysseys unlock new heroes and units to use on future playthroughs. Work your way up through 10 increasing difficulty levels to find your ideal challenge. Each playthrough builds your legacy, unlocking new characters and gameplay elements for future runs.
Polytropos: A Tactical Odyssey was built from the ground up to facilitate easy customization. All units, prophecies, epithets and game parameters are defined in text files located in the game's install directory, allowing easy tweaks and modding. Buff your favorite unit, or add new ones for endless content!

Reviews
I played the demo for this game and enjoyed it thoroughly. It definitely feels overwhelming at first but I like the improvements that have been made and all of the additional content for the new release. The game has a lot more depth and replayability than I expected, and I look forward to really grinding out some runs now to determine what the meta looks like.
Enjoying this game so far. The mechanics are clearly explained within the game and there seem to be a variety of different strategies to achieve success. Different heroes and roguelite unlocks give the game replayability.
This game is fun! I appreciate the attention to detail from the time period accurate music and verbiage to the extensive amount of artwork/characters you’re able to play. Along with the beautifully done Greek mythology theme, every run feels a different because of all the combinations you can choose, which keeps it interesting! There’s a built-in tutorial as you play so it’s easy to get the hang of combat. If you’re into roguelites or tactical strategy games, I’d definitely recommend giving Polytropos a try!
--> This game works in Manjaro Linux without the use of proton or wine. <-- If you love the ancient greek mythology and wanted to fight in some turn based battles, look no further than Polytropos. The graphics and art style of this game are very unique to that sense and makes the game quite fun just to choose your champion, your battle party and go off into the world to fight the battles. For each win, gather god like powers, gain skills you can raise as you further your quest and even bring forth others by purchase to further your battle cause. Offer coin to please the gods and ask for reverence. There is quite a bit to do here. What looks like a very minimalist strategy game is truly one of the more fun strategy games on steam; just when you think you and your band of fighters are tough enough and you choose the wrong scenario, you quickly realize you made a mistake and your party gets wiped out along with you as well. Choose wisely what you are going to spend your hard earned drachma on before you walk out into the battle field. Just FYI! Don't let this game's simplicity fool you. Don't judge a book by it's cover. This game truly is a LOT of fun. Well done dev! WELL done!
Good!
Fun game! strategic and flexible. Takes a few runs to get a full grasp of the systems at play but the learning curve isn't too bad. Looking forward to learning the intricacies and increasing the difficulty.
