Strangely, pretty awesome! Really hard, but once you get into the swing of it starts to feel like its your skill pulling you through. Also coop play with friends!
Real Risk of Rain vibes, 10/10
I was the lead artist on Risk of Rain Returns, just want to say it's very neat and flattering to see a game that walks so closely in RoR's footsteps. I wish it did a little more of its own thing, but I'm still early in the experience. I've played it enough to see that it's fun for many of the reasons the original Risk of Rain was, though! best of luck to this game and its developer :)
Are YOU a fan of the original Risk of Rain? Do you wish for a similar yet different experience after your hundreds of hours of runs? Do you not want a 3rd person shooter like Risk of Rain 2? If so, this is the game for you! While it may initially seem like a knockoff, I believe it does a few unique things that help it stand out. For one, the movesets of each of the characters feels more unique than in Risk of Rain in my opinion. Each character/class feels like it stands out more against the others, even when comparing some that should conceptually be similar, such as the wizard and pyromancer. Additionally, there's a bit of metroidvania elements with the unlocks. To get to certain places and unlock certain items, you need to unlock a modifier that enables the blue ropes to be climbed. Unsure if there are more unlocks besides this, but this opens up the game a lot more than you'd expect, and feels really good afterward. Finally, the art direction is absolutely adorable. My biggest criticism about the game from my experiences with it is that the loot density feels kinda small most of the time, especially since mobility is a bit low on most characters from the start. On the first stage, even if you full clear it, you'd be hard pressed to get more than 6 or 7 items, and the map sizes aren't small. Despite this, though, the game continues to be very fun and quite challenging, and the dev(s) are continuing to polish the game post-launch.
