After playing for about 2hrs, here are my thoughts. First, the positives. The atmosphere is interesting, and the 2.5D graphics is pleasurable. The designs are captivating and really set the plague horror vibes, and there are elements in the dialogues that make you wonder what the hell is going on. It had a nice intuition in the progress system, although it wasn't my vibes (will be explained next). Now, the sour taste. It crashed as soon as I tried to turn off v-sync, and any time I alt-tabbed away it never allowed me to get back to it, glitching the screen instead. But I let it slide, since it is patchable and may have been my PC's issue. The game feels overall unpolished and not really inspired on the gameplay side. The commands at first are not intuitive if played with mouse and keyboard, no explanation is ever given on gameplay mechanics and there are many aspects that feel a first draft rather than a complete game. A special mention goes to the minimap, which I found very messy, but worse of all after exiting the area it removed first the NPC markers, then itself. The gameplay loop didn't hook me in, it felt like doing chores instead of playing a strategy game. I thought I would've had to precisely manage my resources, but I never found myself in need of actually managing my stamina both due to an extremely high amount of consumable drops (that do not need to be used exclusively in combat) and having it restored by the campsite, which I assume is a bug or bugged since you can rest in it infinitely. The game is really unbalanced in the player's favour, since you have an army at your disposal of character that are more powerful than the foes at base values, and it becomes especially easy if you overlevel even a single character, a thing that WILL eventually happen since you cannot change the base doctor (at least in the first hour or so, but I assume it will be for the whole game since it didn't let me change it with other doctors). Using the survivors as a resource to build a better base is an interesting gimmick, but it was NEVER explained to me that retiring a survivor at a specific structure would've increased its level. Also, it makes everything a lot grindy, since the amount of survivors needed to level up buildings seem a lot (maybe their quality influences the advancement, but I didn't test it). Overall, the game has potential, but I didn't appreciate it to the fullest. If it was more polished, maybe I would've given it 10 hours or so before reviewing it.

The combat here is genuinely engaging and feels like it evolves as you play. Early battles teach you the basics, but later zones demand real tactical thinking. Enemy patterns, terrain advantages, and choosing when to press forward or retreat all come into play.
What I like most is how the game handles long-term progression. Unlocks don’t feel overpowered, but they open new strategies and playstyles.
Awesome graphics turn-based RPG game. It is free to play so it's zero risk, it has fair system requirements and random levels. Support indie devs. Highly recommend!
This game is really satisfying to play if you enjoy grinding and leveling up characters and builds. There's buildings to unlock in your base and retiring duplicate characters you find can give you extra bonuses like boosts to your stats or new perks and skills. You have quests for monsters to kill and they recycle so you can keep getting resources from redoing them which is useful on multiple runs. The party size is also the perfect size to have one of each type of character with you to really get to know them. I wish the soldier could attack a bit easier but other than that they all have great attacks and uses like healing and spells. The tutorial is short and sweet and throws you into the game without being overwhelming or boring with slow action. It only took about 2 minutes to get through. After that, everything comes really naturally and the controls are straightforward. It's also super easy to use a controller with and I recommend doing so to sit back and relax while playing. The music and visuals are also really nice! It has it's own style that I like. Feels a bit like Fran Bow with the lay out but everything is animated and interactable! The sound effects are really satisfying as well!
I have only put about an hour and a half into this so far but i’m already hooked the atmosphere and that unique dark art style really stand out and make you want to explore more even for a beginner the turn based combat feels very solid and rewarding and it definitely gives you that perfect mix of challenge and strategy if you’re into roguelites or tactical games i’d say this is a must buy because it’s clear even early on that it’s going to be a great experience
Even failed runs feel productive. You gain knowledge about enemy behavior and perk combinations, and that knowledge directly helps in future attempts.
I went into Plague Hunters not expecting much, but it surprised me with how polished and engaging it feels. The roguelite structure keeps every run fresh, and the turn-based combat rewards planning instead of rushing.
The world design is dark, grim, and eerily beautiful in its own way. Exploring plague-stricken locales feels like uncovering a cursed fairytale, and that aesthetic adds so much to the immersion.
