Please see my curator page for more games that are well worth your time

Game info:
This is a fun but, in my opinion, challenging action-adventure. You're a dwarf and your wife gets kidnapped by the devil. You have to save here by digging through the mines. This is challenging, because you can't take your time to plan ahead: the ceiling is coming down and you have to keep digging! There are also a lot of monsters in the mine and you only start with 2 health. You can buy health and bombs at the shop, so it is possible to get more than 2 health. There is also a forge where you can forge a stronger pickaxe or shovel. There is no save system in this game. Every time you die, you start at the first level again with 2 health and the basic pickaxe.
Achievements info:
I did find most of the achievements challenging. Making 9 bombs required you to focus on the materials. Getting 9 health requires loads and loads of money and not getting hit much before you get to that 9 health. I've so far not been able to get that many hearts. Killing 30 enemies in one run is also difficult, because some will not get damaged when you hit them with your shovel/pickaxe. You can get better at this game with a lot of time and effort, but it was too repetitive for me to do that. I wish it was just a little bit easier because I enjoyed the game for a while.
Pros & cons:
+ Easy to learn + Fun game mechanism +- Challenging gameplay
Pity Pit is a fun little game to pick up and play for a while. It feels like a mix of Downwell and Dig Dug but has it's own style too. The gameplay is fun and when using a controller it feels great. You go down this hole while digging and smashing through rocks, collecting resources and coins to buy upgrades while trying to be faster than the cave-in that's coming from above. I think you're trying to rescue a princess or something at the bottom of this pit. As for the music and sound effects, they are very old school like an NES game or something, well, the sound effects anyways. The music is hard to tell when it's on or not so if you throw on some background music that can be nice too. This is a fun game that would be cool to pass around with others while hanging out to see how gets the highest score. Maybe make a contest out of it or something and you'll have a good time.
Some movement issues make avoiding damage fiddly, reducing the fun considerably.
Pity Pit –

It's ok, addictive enough and the price is correct. It makes you want to go further and there is room to improve your skills, although it's initially on the difficult side. Some enemies are really difficult, but then it's your job to find strategies against them, and it's always possible to go further. Some people would probably prefer it with a bit more meat on the bones, maybe as a roguelite because no progress is saved and you restart from zero on every playthrough. But it works like that too. Just take it for what it is, a small game.
(follow my curator page GenXPlayers for more retro and indie reviews)
I really tried to get into this, because of the cute "8-bittish" graphics and the basic idea that, despite the blurb of being a cross of Dig Dug and Downwell, stands on its own: a platforming journey down through randomly generated levels, collecting as many materials and coins to spend or forge at the end of each level. Coins are best used to buy as many hearts as possible to enhance survival chances, while forging allows the player to craft more powerful tools to dig more squares of dirt at a time or break more robust blocks faster. Unfortunately the fun is severely marred by annoying collisions and enemies. You have to maneuver in tight spaces all the time, while contending with enemies that can be either struck horizontally, or downwards while jumping, the latter method being necessary for some of them, except sometimes they aren't hit properly, and quite often the space to jump and strike is very limited. Right from the beginning there are Pacman-like enemies: the yellow ones come up and then direct themselves towards the player, while the red ones follow the player to dig under their feet. Of course the red enemies are the most annoying but sometimes, especially when there are impassable blocks, you may be left with little space to escape from the yellow ones. Further levels introduce enemies that shoot projectiles, and even ghosts that just wander around ignoring any wall, making even more difficult to align and hit them, all while the offensive and especially defensive capabilities keep being woefully limited. Taking damage while doing nothing wrong is unfortunately common. As far as I played, there is also no meta-progression that could at least give some tangible results to all the attempts, like the developer's previous game Null Drifter does, everything is just reset to zero at the beginning of every run. And ultimately, my patience ran to zero.
This is such an fun game, you just want to keep on playing it. It gave me a slight Boulderdash vibe, even though its not like that. And I really loved to play Dig Dug, and this game got an nice old school feel to it. Its RNG based levels. Honestly I was suprised by how fun this game is, and how much replay value it has. I'm definetly going to play this game more
PT/EN EN: Pity Pit is a fun game that I played while trying to chill listening to music, it has a very strong retro vibe for me which is intended by the developer of course. The digging feels natural although sometimes when destroyng blocks I shoot my bullets and that makes Oratio jump in the air, but this didnt really annoyed me. Bombs on the other hand i didnt use due to being afraid of explosion in a screen that got me few spaces to move due to to the need for dig, so the few experience I had with using bombs wasnt really the best. The sound effects are nice and not annoying but I can also just mute them when I feel like listening to something else, aside the ghosts with audio cues so it was pretty relaxing We have multiple picksaxes and shovels and I think the shovel is superior due to digging two blocks at once although being weaker against the enemies, so I could gather coins and materials to buy health (top priority) and better shovels like iron or gold, in the end I'd try hard for those diamond and get the pick axe for the increased power against enemies and the boss. Overall a solid cheap game that is good enough, and I thought it was very creative with the menu, Oratio is cute and the difficult is fair (maybe an hard mode with no coins? or no health in shops although I dont think it needs it) Very pleased with this buy.
If you like retro gaming this game is for you. The video describes it perfectly and it's one of the "just one more time" game. The gameplay is solid and very polish. The only down is the time to wait when you die until the retry button appears (just a few seconds but I'm for the instant replay - ehi it's not that bad, just for me ). ^_^ Give it a try.
