I remember when I first played Baldur's Gate back when I was like 12; it hit me right at the same time that I was experiencing D&D for the first time and it was like a dream come true; I wanted more but it was like, naw take what you can get and it's cool at least we got something. Then Baldur's Gate II came out and it was like whoa... something is happening here. This is for real. Then we got twenty years of ♥♥♥♥ lol like pathfinder kingmaker - yeah sure that games exactly what we wanted on paper but nobody had any fun actually playing it soooo Well Pillars of Eternity was like a new BG1; it had the depth but it had a lot of trouble swimming. BG1 had plenty of problems, and would never have succeeded in a saturated market - it popped back in '98 because it was the first of its kind. I love PoE1 and I will recommend it to anyone who asks, but I'll never try to sell it as a breakthrough. Meanwhile you had DOS1 at around the same time; it didn't have the depth but it did have the gameplay. Divinity back in the day was a diablo clone but Larian really tried to go the extra mile and it showed. Then in 2017, DOS2 came out; absolutely pivotal; Larian knocked it out of the park. Except the park was about half the size it shoulda been - and the game stalls out in the third act because what shoulda been the halfway mark was really just a big end game squeeze since the development sprawled out. PoE2 Deadfire came out a year later; I didn't play it until now almost ten years later; **yeah sorry for all the buildup - here is my actual review** this game has some engine issues but it is hands down the most fun I have had playing an RPG since BG2; even in a post BG3 world, this game does things from a gameplay perspective that no other game ever has. When I have memories of how much fun I had playing BG1, and go back to play it again and end up disappointed - those memories are clicking with reality in PoE2 DEADFIRE. This game puts it down and picks it back up . It is a must play. If your machine wouldn't run in back in 2018, then that sucked but you were in the majority. It's 2026 now. Play this game if you haven't yet. Play PoE1 first if you haven't yet. Come get you some, it's worth it; 99% of games I say wait til it's on sale - this one I say pay what they ask nobody earns it like Obsidian. P.S. FNV4life
