A well written story with interesting characters. It is mechanically well balanced.
This game suffers with having a little too much grey area. Every morally good choice in this game has some kind of drawback adding to the realism and atmosphere. However, it is overdone to the point of feeling almost cliche when compared to other obsidian titles. This game left me wanting for a joinable faction with any redeeming qualities. The Huana are racist compradors, the valians are outright monopoly capitalist slavers, the Ruatai are imperialists, and the "rebel" faction (the principi) are slavers or outright murderous thugs with no clear political motives. The only outright anti-colonial faction, the Oro O Koikoi, are isolationists.
This game leaves me wanting for a faction that is flawed in the sense that they make mistakes, but aren't inherently ideologically backwards in some way. For example, something like a revolutionary faction that is anti-colonial, and anti-caste system. Instead the closest thing we get are the Huana who are comparadors at worst, and national bourgeoisie at best. Or, as stated previously, the Principi who are unaffiliated colonial thugs and slavers.
