Reviews
I’ve been following the development of this game since its Kickstarter and it was truly heartwarming to see how much passion went into creating this little gem. Trust me — download the game and allow yourself to feel like a little kid again. I absolutely love it!
Controls well, has pretty sprite art, the interstitial illustrations are very charming. There's a difficulty spike at the third boss, if you get this for a young kid they might need help from there.
I'm currently just bout halfway through and I' having a really fun time. The level design isn't overly complicated, he enemies while similar are region specific. The music is appropriately catchy for this kind of platformer. My biggest complaint is the weapon select and item select feels a little clunky in its implementation, but I really like the idea as it adds to an otherwise standard platformer formula, and makes the gameplay more interesting. [Just a quick addendum: The third world boss, Rocky Ronster, is a huger skill wall that might stop a lot of younger players. This boss has a lot of varied attacks that don't always telegraph that well. The character is very tall, and while he's tall enough to jump over, it often involves also inadvertently collecting seeds that you likely could've saved for later (restoring life, using special attacks). While earlier bosses I could defeat in one to three attempts, this boss took me about an hour through three play sessions to get through.] [Follow-Up Edit: I'm again stuck on a world boss, this time World 4 Boss, Whirlpool Wave. I've either hit a massive skill wall or the boss is glitched. The only video I've found of this boss fight was before the December 28th update and the player took out the boss after fewer than 15 hits after it starts flashing. I've managed to hit it upwards of 36 times after it starts flashing and I still can't beat this boss.] [Follow-up to my Follow-up: I can no longer recommend the game until it's either patched or I hear back from the developer regarding the world four boss, which feels either glitched/broken or I've just hit an absurdly high skill wall. I've tried reaching out here, on their webpage, and their Discord and haven't heard back from anyone for over a month. I really want to like (again) this game and I'll 100% change back my recommendation once I'm able to get an answer.]
