About
"Phil in the Mirror" focuses on the experience of uncovering mysteries through careful observation and reasoning amidst light tension. You must find 'anomalies' as you pass through corridors that look the same every time. However, the true challenge of this game does not end with simply finding the 'different picture'.
Anomalies are both a threat and the only opportunity to open a new path. Every clue depends on your observation and your insight to see through the nature of the phenomenon.
You start on the 9th floor. The corridor you pass through may seem the same every time, but it might not be. You must carefully observe your surroundings to find 'anomalies'.
If you find an anomaly, immediately turn back and get on the elevator you came from.
If there is nothing wrong, take the elevator at the end of the corridor to the next floor.
If you break the rules, you cannot go down to the next floor.
These simple rules will put you to the test. Your observation is your only means of survival.
Does it end with just finding a different picture? The anomalies here are not just 'different pictures', but hold the key to opening tightly closed doors. A ringing phone is not just a source of fear, but an invitation to a story, and rising water is both a crisis and an opportunity to bring forgotten clues to the surface. Grasp the meaning hidden beyond the surface of the phenomenon and use it to advance to a new space.
This building is not just an endless series of corridors. We call this unique experience 'Metroidbrainia'. The clues you decipher and the phenomena you face become the keys to unlocking completely different areas hidden in this space. The deeper you dig, the wider and deeper this world will unfold before you.
Every puzzle is deeply connected to the one great story that this building holds. All the scattered documents, and even the anomalies themselves, are intricately intertwined towards a single truth. Your reasoning will be the power to fit the last piece of this mystery.
In this questionable space, can you face the truth and find the real way out?

I really wanted to love this game. It looks exactly like something I'd enjoy. Unfortunately it runs at 10 FPS on the steam deck, and won't even open on my PC due to forced ray tracing (which my GPU doesn't support). Hopefully the dev is able to fix the performance one day... but for now I'll be refunding.
Phil in the Mirror honestly hooked me way more than I expected. At first it feels like a simple “Exit 8–style” hallway game: you just walk, spot anomalies, get a bit paranoid. Phase 1 is basically the game training your eyes. No cheap jumpscares, just that feeling of “wait, that wasn’t there before, right?” You’re not even aware you’re memorizing stuff, but you are. Then Phase 2 hits and that’s where it gets really good. All those anomalies come back as reports, and now you have to use what you saw to solve puzzles. It shifts from “something’s off” to “I KNOW I saw this, how does it match this report?” First half is data collection, second half is data analysis, and that structure makes the late game super immersive. If anything, I wish the report phase was a bit longer because the idea is that strong. But overall, if you like horror that’s more about observation and memory than loud jumpscares, this game is genuinely worth your time.
The Exit 8 + Lorelei and the Laser Eyes
I don't particularly enjoy these anomaly hunter games. This game exceeds all expectations. This game is absolutely fantastic. The anomalies are there, and they are good. But instead of running away, you are running towards the anomalies. The story is fantastic. The puzzles are inspired, genius even. I noted things that weren't used for hours of gameplay. I did things out of order. I had epiphanies. The game is so well put together. I'm not going to be able to write about anything specific because I don't want to spoil it for people. Play this game!
I wasn't sure what to expect from the trailer, but I really enjoyed this. There's a good transition from the "anomaly hunt" style gameplay to a more standard puzzle sequence, and the two halves of the game work well together.
Phil in the Mirror pleasantly surprised me in a lot of ways. I'm not really into anomaly hunts, but I really liked the way they were implemented (and later, recontextualized) in this game. I thought the puzzles were very well designed and felt satisfying to solve. It looks like I played after some difficulty adjustments were made, and I think it strikes a nice balance of having some tricky puzzles, but none that felt frustrating or like I didn't have the necessary information to solve it. I was also surprised by how invested I found myself in the narrative. The game has a pretty heavy tone shift in the second act, which I found to be very compelling, and enough breadcrumbs were left to always keep me interested in going to the next puzzle to find out more about what was going on in the story. All in all, a really solid puzzle game, and one I'd highly recommend for any fans of the genre!
