Some say that the negative reviews are from people who expected another Duke-like (as Ion Fury was) and were disappointed that it was more akin to Half-Life. That's not the case. The game is just bad. >"Focus, S" >poor map design >guns lack punch >game doesn't have regenerating health, but combat feels like it is designed around having it (hitscan enemies, lack of health pickups, etc) >no manual saves At least not enough for me to want to keep playing
The game is not as good as ION FURY, but not as bad as the critics says. I enjoyed the game, specially the last part, even when I encountered some bugs and performance issues.
Really not as bad as the reviews make it out to be. Is it the best game ever made? No. But it is a fun tribute to old school FPSs and shooters from the late 90s and early 2000s. Half Life, Solider of Fortune, Star Trek Elite Force, those kind of shooters that they don't make anymore. Having fun with it so far!
YOU WANNA BE HALF LIFE SOOOOOO BAD
During the first third or so of the campaign I was convinced that the entire game was just going to be a half life reference with worse guns and boring lore but I must say it shaped up progressively after that. Once you start getting upgrades, the arsenal is quite fun and varied. World design is chef's kiss, and great animation to boot. Some levels drag on a bit, and the story still leaves a bit to be desired, and even Shelly doesn't quip like she did in Ion Fury. Still, it's a decent game that is certainly over hated and deserves a shot from shooter enthusiasts. 6.8/10
This game is not Ion Fury levels of good, it although isn't as horrible as some critics say. It's a good 6.5 to 7 out of 10 experience vs Ion Fury's 9-10. I had fun with my time playing it, definitely recommend it on discount. It's wild to see SiN, Ion Fury, and Tempest Rising all in the same universe/world too.
I'm bummed I missed out on this game because I listened to the negative reviews. I'm really enjoying this game, even more than I liked Ion Fury. This game feels like Black Mesa meets Quake and Half-Life 2. Even has physics puzzles and a lot of interactive stuff. I'm kind of bummed I'm not seeing more people appreciate these kind of things in games. This game deserves a lot better than the shallow mixed reviews. Games need more physics based gameplay and nifty interactive objects in game worlds like Phantom Fury.
Half-Life 2 + Duke Nukem + Quake 2 = Phantom Fury
Really would like to recommend this game, but its obvious that there were a lot of issues when it was released. It feels like they wanted to throw a bunch of guns into the game, but some of them feel undercooked and feel like niche weapons that do not have much use. Also I wish games would let you organize what weapon you want to be drawn first when multiple ones are bound to the same key. It causes you to just mainly use the first weapons you can pull out in the middle of battle. I like the look of the game and they did try to be creative with weapons, but there are some that are just not fun to use. There are some dramatic frame drops in some levels and at the end of the game it froze twice in different sections. Nothing too bad, but it seems this is something that people run into. Also the voice acting and the story seems very half baked. I do not mind intentional B movie plots in games, but the VA was pretty bad and the story was bad enough that I wish it was not in the game. If you enjoy games like this (similar to Half Life gameplay-wise) you will probably have some fun, but I would recommend getting it at around $5.
