Reviews
Persona 3 Reload is, for me, the quintessential Persona experience. Given that Persona 5 is in a league of its own for visual presentation, the timing was absolutely right to give this game a fresh coat of paint. Atlus have done a stellar job with everything here - Reload perfectly toes the line between faithful and modern to deliver one of the best remakes in recent memory. As for Persona 3 itself: in my opinion, it’s the best in the series by far. The characters are excellent, and have a palpable sense of growth as you progress through the story and social links. The story itself is unique, in that it evokes a sense of stake and urgency that both 4 and 5 couldn’t quite capture. This game is at its best in its darkest moments; the sheer weight of some of its hardships brings out something special in the connections you have with the cast. The soundtrack remains fantastic, and the remake gave a lot of its songs a welcome breath of new life. There are also a few additions to the soundtrack in Reload, which by my judgement are some of the absolute best in the series to date. I adored the time I spent with this game and I didn’t want it to end. I’ll remember this game fondly and I will undoubtedly try FES again someday.
かぜのこえ Kaze no koe ひかりのつぶ Hikari no tsubu まどろむきみにそそぐ Madoromu kimi ni sosogu わすれないやさしいほほえみ Wasurenai yasashii hohoemi かなしさにかくしたひとみを Kanashisa ni kakushita hitomi wo ねがうこと (つらくても) Negau koto (tsurakutemo) たちむかうゆうききみにもらったよ Tachimukau yuuki kimi ni moratta yo だからゆくね Dakara yuku ne ゆめのなか (めざめたら) Yume no naka (mezametara) またあえるよ Mata aeru yo
Writing this review while crying, the game was phenomenal through and through. I personally don't have any complaints, and think this game is absolutely worth full price in every way. Do note, that I am coming in as someone who has essentially started with Persona 5 Royal, then moved to Persona 4 Golden, then Persona 3 Reload. My experience with the original Persona 3(s) is really only limited to having played a little bit of portable on a PSP as a young teen, so my frame of comparison is essentially non-existent, but looking at it as a game on its own rather than a remake (which I know a lot of people seem to have problems with the remake compared to the originals), it's just about perfect. My only complaints are the lack of Kotone in this game, and that the idling in the title screen boots you back into the opening cutscene. I would've been more than willing to put down another $40-$50 to play as her.
boring combat, very mediocre cliche anime story with anime dialogue, horrible pacing HORRIBLEEEEEEEEEE. plot is fire tho 10/10 and some characters are also well written but the flaws far outweighed the positives for me.
Im sad now. Games tells story about life. feels like wanna go back to high school again. but watever im playing persona 4 Revival. 10/10 Atlus needs to keep making Games. T_T
"Persona 3 Reload tells a beautiful, emotional story and is a remake done right."
- Graphics: anime inspired visuals with beautifully animated cutscenes. - Story: emotional, bittersweet, and centered around accepting loss and moving forward. - Animations: flashy, fluid and packed with style. - Length: approximately 80–100 hours. - Music: smooth blend of hip-hop, jazz, rock, and vocal tracks. (62 soundtracks!) The story kicks off with our protagonist stepping off the train, having recently arrived at Gekkoukan High School. However, things take an unexpected turn as the clock strikes midnight, the atmosphere becomes eerily gloomy, the sky turns an unsettling shade of green, ordinary people are mysteriously turned into coffins, and blood stains cover the floor. Upon arriving at the dormitory, we are greeted by a mysterious boy who asks us to sign a contract before suddenly fading away without a trace. Shortly after we are greeted by two female students Yukari Takeba and Mitsuru Kirijo, and the atmosphere turns back to normal. A few nights later, the dormitory comes under attack by mysterious creatures known as "Shadows" during this strange phenomenon, which we now learn is called the Dark Hour. While defending ourselves, in a moment of desperation we awaken the ability to summon a physical manifestation of a person's psyche known as a Persona. After awakening to this power, we are recruited into the group called the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (S.E.E.S). Its members are among the few people capable of experiencing the Dark Hour, and have the potential to summon Personas while investigating its mysteries. During the hidden 25th hour of the day, the school transforms into a towering labyrinth known as Tartarus, and our objective is to climb to the very top in the hope of learning more about the Dark Hour. Thus begins our adventure as a normal student by day and a S.E.E.S operative during the hidden hour. The Gameplay offers turn based combat, with a standard party formula of a JRPG. As the story progresses, you'll unlock new party members, each bringing their own unique skills and abilities to the team. Combat revolves around exploiting enemy elemental weaknesses, and winning battles may trigger a shuffle time event, allowing you to choose from a variety of rewards including extra experience, money, healing and other options. It is worth noting that the combat can be dull and repetitive. Besides the allure of flashy combat, the title also offers a rich story told through social interaction. Make sure to pay attention in class to do well in your exams, which will benefit you based on the results. After classes is where the fun begins, allowing you the freedom to spend time as you see fit. Working, dining out, visiting the arcade and hanging out with your friends, the latter being very important as deepening your relationship strengthens your bond and further improves personas in combat. The world map offers the much desired feature of fast travel, and the menu allows us to rewind time and make different choices on how we spend the day. The Conclusion I arrived at after 220 hours of gameplay can be summarized in a few words: an unforgettable experience. From its breathtaking visuals, incredible story and a memorable cast of characters, each with their own personalities, struggles, and growth over the course of the journey. All of that is supported by one of the best soundtracks I've heard in a game. Being a JRPG it is not without its grind in the game's main dungeon (Tartarus). Its procedural generated floors eventually become repetitive, with familiar layouts and enemies appearing repeatedly. I want to emphasize the creative elements of the user interface which has its own unique charm: the flavourful backdrop, the smooth transitions into other sub menus. It is not often that a major decision carries real emotional weight in a game and yet this one kept me at the edge of my seat, wanting to see it through. At the end of the day the game resonated with me and inspired this review. Rating:
8.5/10

Persona 3 Reload is a flawed but deeply memorable experience. I will start off by saying it is definitely a worthwhile experience for the story alone. It's really good and honestly really makes you think about life and the time we have on this earth. However even though the story is good, I feel the need to address the pacing which is for sure not a strong point of this game. The first half of the game feels pretty empty when compared to the latter half, and honestly the social links don't help, in my opinion half of them are really uninteresting and boring and don't provide much substance to the overall experience. The other half of social links are good though and are quite entertaining, but when those aren't an option anymore, the bad pacing really starts to leave an impression I feel. As for the dungeon crawling, Tartarus can be interesting the first few nights you go there but it quickly gets old and repetitive considering the fact that the so called randomly generated floors aren't actually so random and have pretty much like 2-3 patterns they cycle through. The game makes up for that with the combat which is really fluid and fun, borrowing some stuff from P5 and changing it up a bit, like the shifting and theurgy. The theurgy system is really fun and flashy with the animations but at the same time can trivialize some boss fights because you can store that theurgy bar and save it for specific encounters. With all those said, it still is a great game worth experiencing and I truly believe this story can change some people's perception on how they live their lives, as it did for me. It is a flawed game but despite those flaws it still holds up great and is a fun time if you manage your expectations regarding the social links, and dungeon crawling.
