A disappointing end to the series. Aside from the awkward translation which plagued all 3 parts of this game, the conclusion itself feels extremely rushed. The game just throws some predictable and cliched plot twists right before it very abruptly ends. All in all, I would not recommend this series. It does have a gorgeous art style though.
Overall: 6/10 The latest installment in Perseverance. You can choose between Jack and Karen and while there will be some changes, most of the story takes place with the two of them together. If you want to buy it, do it with a big discount. Music: 6/10 Decent enough Visuals: 7/10 They looked pretty solid overall. However, the “faces” the characters can do are pretty limited and repetitive. Gameplay: 6/10 Really simple. Basically a VN with options; I give it points for having an easy way to scroll back and pick another option if you want. However, there is a bug where the game is stuck for a few seconds or minutes, unless you reload, which happens every now and then. A big downside, and this happened in Part 2 too, is that you can’t upload a save from the previous game, so you have a brief introduction at the start asking you about your options. Story: 6/10 The story keeps moving forward, but sometimes it feels like it doesn’t lead anywhere. There should be more meaningful interactions between the characters or more actual choices. The ending seems to have come out of nowhere with too many coincidences piling up.
The game stutters A LOT and I can't save most of the time, because if I do, the game stutters dead and I have to restart it. When games with FAR higher system specs work better it's a disaster of optimization.
A few years ago, I bought the Part 1. I gave it a negative review. I said that it was a setting for story which then abruptly finished. It left me dumbfounded. But finally, I bought the Parts 2 and 3. It was the setting I liked, this was apparently the game similar to The Walking Dead which was no more developed. And I must confessed I liked the Parts 2 and 3. This was the first game where my choices mattered, and I went to the story branch according to my choices. I could choose _really_ what I wanted, and I was rewarded for that with the story development. So... buy it on discount. There is a bit of reading to do. I am not saying: "You must buy it". It is probably not for everyone... but some of those who like the genre will appreciate it.
Normally, I'll finish a game even if I really don't like it. But I just hate this game too much to slog through it. My playtime seems long because I was playing it in Polish for practice, but it's not even worth it for the Polish lesson. There are lots of better games in Polish. I played Parts 1 and 2 and enjoyed them. Part 3 was just a monumental disappointment. First of all, I think the decision to essentially split this into two stories, one from Jack's POV and one from Karen's, was bad. Basically, instead of getting one polished story, we get two half-assed ones. And they seem to be practically the same anyway, so it's not even interesting to get the different perspectives. I would've preferred a story from Natalie's or Hope's perspective or something. Choices seem like an illusion. Most of the time it's just "the right option" or "death." When you die, go back to the title screen and start over again. Oh wow, cool, that's fun. They got rid of the sensible design choice they had in Part 2 where you could resume again from just before you died. Also, this game is bizarrely laggy at times, and for some reason, even though it has no voice acting and consists entirely of 2D art with minimal animation, the game is 11GB!? Wtf are you guys even doing, devs? And on the note of animation, the characters blink just about every damn second. It's weird and annoying. Anyway, what really kills the game is the terrible story and writing. It's clear the devs just wanted to be done with this series. And golly gee willikers, I wonder whether the devs like Jack or Karen more. It sure is hard to tell. Seriously, beyond just generally treating Jack like a bumbling alcoholic idiot and Karen like a badass ✨strong independent woman✨, Karen's story is a lot more fleshed out, even in the parts that are the exactly the same as Jack's story. The devs' blatant infatuation with Karen just makes me despise her. Also, Karen, Bob, Roger? Did I just walk into Boomerville, or who the hell is naming these characters? I have way too much patience for bad games. It's rare I don't finish one. So... congrats, I guess, devs?
This is a defective product, at least on my computer. 90% of the times the save doesnt work and instead crash the game. I got it for like less than 1€ at a sale and even that is probably too much. The series has always been pulpy zombie visual novels with kind of bad writing (partiallly due to jank translation) and ok-ish comic book art. And while the first was kind of mediocre (with one of the least likable protagonists ever), the second actually did show some promise, in a grindhouse VN kind of way. But this is unplayable. From the other reviews it doesn't look like I miss much.
