Good remaster for a good unique game. Updated to modern systems, bugfixes, balance tweaks, online multiplayer, and English version is not butchered, as it was previously, so story is finally intelligible for English-speaking people. Still holds up and worth playing in 2026, though an AI is lacking, and some campaign missions are just tedious and long because of their mechanics or AI. Also would be nice to get some UX improvements
Still a cool concept and plays well.
Absolutely useless remaster - crashes without any reason (where original version working well), no such improments in graphics, cracked AI in campaigns.

Developed by K-D Lab and published by Association K-D Lab, PERIMETER: Legate Edition revives one of the most inventive real-time strategy games ever created, bringing its distinctive mechanics to modern platforms while preserving the identity that earned it a loyal following. Rather than following the familiar formula of gathering resources and producing increasingly larger armies, the game challenges players to think differently by placing the landscape itself at the center of every battle. This fresh design philosophy gives the experience a timeless quality, proving that innovation can leave a lasting impression even years after a game's original release. The gameplay revolves around terraforming, allowing players to reshape the battlefield to expand their influence and improve energy production. Raising land, flattening hills, and transforming terrain are not simply visual effects but essential strategic tools that determine how efficiently an empire functions. Every alteration affects resource generation, defensive positions, and future expansion, encouraging careful planning instead of rapid decision-making. This unique mechanic ensures that each match develops differently, rewarding players who can anticipate both immediate and long-term consequences of their actions. Another standout feature is the game's energy network, which replaces conventional resource management with an interconnected power system. Buildings rely on linked energy fields, making infrastructure every bit as important as military strength. Protecting these networks while disrupting an opponent's supply lines becomes a constant balancing act. A well-executed strike against critical energy connections can cripple an enemy's entire operation without requiring direct destruction of every structure. This layered approach to strategy creates battles where positioning, timing, and intelligent planning consistently outweigh sheer numerical superiority. The campaign presents an intriguing science-fiction setting built around the Chains of Worlds, where humanity exists across interconnected realities and conflicting ideologies shape the future of civilization. Players command powerful Legates while experiencing a story that explores philosophical disagreements rather than simple hero-versus-villain conflicts. Competing factions pursue different visions of humanity's destiny, giving the narrative greater depth than many traditional strategy games. The lore unfolds gradually alongside the missions, adding purpose to every military engagement while encouraging players to become invested in the larger conflict. Artistically, PERIMETER: Legate Edition embraces an unusual visual style filled with alien environments, futuristic architecture, and constantly changing landscapes. Watching terrain transform throughout a battle reinforces the game's central mechanics while creating battlefields that rarely remain static. Although the graphics naturally reflect the game's original era, the creative direction remains distinctive enough to stand apart from many modern strategy titles that often rely on more familiar science-fiction aesthetics. The environmental transformations continue to deliver satisfying visual feedback that complements the gameplay. The sound design supports the atmosphere effectively through ambient music and impactful effects that emphasize the scale of the technology at the player's command. The soundtrack enhances the mysterious tone of the universe without becoming distracting, while the audio cues for combat and terraforming provide useful feedback during intense engagements. Together, the presentation successfully immerses players in a strange but believable futuristic world where every battle feels significant. Legate Edition also introduces modern conveniences that make returning to this classic much easier. Improved compatibility with current operating systems, multiplayer functionality, Steam Workshop support, and continued technical improvements ensure that the experience feels more accessible than ever before. These enhancements respect the original design instead of fundamentally altering it, allowing both newcomers and longtime fans to enjoy the game without sacrificing its unique identity. Its greatest strength also represents its biggest hurdle. PERIMETER is not designed as an immediately approachable strategy game. The unfamiliar mechanics require patience, experimentation, and a willingness to rethink habits developed from more traditional RTS titles. New players may initially struggle with the importance of terrain management and energy distribution, but those who commit to mastering these systems will discover one of the most rewarding and intellectually engaging strategy experiences available. Replayability remains exceptionally strong because no two battles evolve in exactly the same way. The constantly changing terrain, multiple factions, varied tactical possibilities, and strategic freedom encourage experimentation across both the campaign and multiplayer modes. Every match becomes an opportunity to discover new approaches to controlling territory, managing infrastructure, and exploiting environmental advantages. PERIMETER: Legate Edition succeeds not because it follows genre conventions but because it confidently breaks them. Its innovative combination of terrain manipulation, interconnected energy systems, thoughtful storytelling, and memorable world-building continues to feel remarkably fresh even today. While its demanding learning curve may discourage players seeking a more straightforward RTS experience, strategy enthusiasts looking for originality and mechanical depth will find an outstanding title that remains unlike almost anything else in the genre. Rating: 8/10
