About
One fine day, in a remote island community off the coast of Maine, nine cats wake up to discover that their humans have disappeared. To survive, they must band together to uncover the mysteries of their storied island home - and ultimately, it is up to them to decide:
Are the humans worth bringing back?

- Explore a truly open world - The entirety of the island will be accessible, with each building containing a hand-crafted interior. No "Invisible Walls," or buildings with no purpose.
- A realistic weather & tidal system - From foggy nights, to morning downpours, to clear, blue skies - you never know what those southeast winds might bring in - and you'll never want to miss a beautiful sunset!
- Nine Playable Cats - Each with their own stories, preferences, skills, & weaknesses - as you get to know them, you'll know which one might be the best for a certain job!
- A commitment to using only HUMAN-MADE content - We want to provide our players with a human-made experience, from beginning to end!

- Delve into a rich, 200-year alternate history - Learn family lineages, study old maps, and read books & letters better left hidden.
- Your decisions matter! - How you approach life after humanity will decide how the game plays out in the end.
- Replayability - Three different possible endings (and perhaps more!)

- Experience a hand-crafted world - From the very beginning, we strove to create a world that isn't just "that place between mission points." The island might be small, but there is a LOT to discover and re-discover!
- Original, adaptive soundtrack - From the mood of the cats, to the time of day, to the weather, the soundtrack changes. Each player's musical experience will be different!
- An expanded emotional palette - Games are a wonderful storytelling - and all stories are not happy ones.

- Relax! - Sometimes, you just want to hang out with the cats and watch the sun set. A mix of casual/slow gaming.
- Meet new friends - and new enemies! - The humans might be gone, but old power structures remain. Currying favor with the deer might make the Seagulls less willing to talk!

Peace Island began in November of 2017, when a Eric (a line cook) and Laura (a care worker) noticed a severe lack of rich, single-player, story-driven experiences in a game world where the major publishers were intent on developing the next open-world shooter.
They knew it wasn't going to be easy - developing a video game of this size typically requires dozens of people and significant funding. They just had themselves, and whatever pocket change they could set aside after bills and rent. They worked on the project in whatever few hours they could set aside outside of their sleep and regular jobs.

The world took shape, slowly but steadily. Occasionally, they could convince a friend to donate a piece of artwork, or save enough to hire a coder for an hour or two to help build the first, simple systems.
From the very start, emphasis was put on crafting a beautiful world- one that would not simply serve as "that space between one destination and another," but as a place the player wants to linger in for just perhaps one more sunset.

After two years of slow but steady progress, Peace Island "went viral" in the fall of 2019, finally allowing the project to expand beyond a single bedroom, an outdated computer, and a few notebooks.

Since then, the Peace Island project has expanded to include a a core team of 7, and an expanded talent pool of over 40 creatives from around the world.
As we enter the fist days of our fifth year of development, we are more excited than ever to share the world & story of Peace Island.
OUR COMMITMENT, REGARDING GENERATIVE AI CONTENT:
Simply put: We don't like it. As of now, there are 3 or fewer possible artifact textures/bitmaps within Peace Island that are of AI origin, out of the approximately 3,500 currently used within the game - these are methodically being removed, and replaced with 100% verified human content.
We apologize for this oversight, and sincerely regret any confusion this might have caused, as most of this remaining questionable content was procured from third-party sources, and not properly reviewed before use.

Right now is very hard to recommend, the movements, the story, the bad optimization, the world. Great idea, but implementation
I don't recommend this game, not one bit. Right now it's so buggy, its unplayable. You can find bugs within the first minute of playing including collisions bugs, blinding and flashing lights that phase through walls, audio bugs like global annoying sounds and performance issues Although not a bug, there are tons and tons of "useless" info scattered about the game that only a sadist would sit there and read through. The developer(s) are frustrating to talk to and their use of their platform even more so, using it as a political account rather than an actual developer platform. In the state that its in, I don't even see a future in this game even with years of development put into it and it feels like a project that should've been scrapped a long time ago.
Even though I have only played a short time, I wanted to leave a quick review on first impressions: THE GOOD: 1: I don't think I have seen an indie video game with this much readable content since the original "MYST" series. Every book, magazine, letter, and flier you see can be read, and there is a LOT of them! 2: The world is huge, when you include the interiors included so far. The developers say they will be including every building eventually - which will be pretty amazing. 3: There is a lot to discover. I've encountered a podcaster's campsite, a secret society of some sort, a love story, a bunch of other animals with various short missions, and there's some sort of dancing cryptid that shows up - and I've only scratched the surface. 4: A complete radio show including original music, and more in-game lore. THE BAD: 1: Buggy - almost as bad as the standard Bethesda initial release. 2: Performance lags at times - especially after the initial load. 3: Audio is not properly balanced - some SFX are too loud, some too quiet. 4: Quest dialogue is obviously still in alpha. I could add about a half-dozen more items to both columns - but presently, my experience has been - if nothing else - interesting, and for that alone it deserves a thumbs-up. Yes - it's rough around the edges, but the devs have been updating regularly - sometimes every day. Considering it's just like three people working on a shoestring budget, they have a better record on that count than most Early Access titles on Steam.
A huge chunk of my game library is usually early access games, and almost all of them start out a challenging life. Not very many, however, have near daily updates, and consistent communication from the development team, especially when it's just a couple of people. It's actually already got some decent areas to explore, a sprinkle of released lore, and very promising environments. It might be a little crunchy and unoptimized at the moment, but there's constantly work being done to add content, improve optimization, and fix all sorts of bugs. I've already seen so much new stuff and improvements over the last couple years, I can see it continuing. I recommend it at the moment based on current content, appearance, what lore we do have, and what is planned and expected for the future. Disclaimer: Most of my play time has been done on packages released directly from the development team, and is why my Steam play time will read low.
So its a little more in development than I was expecting but I've been following the project development forever, so I'm onboard for the long haul. I can't wait to see where this project goes from here. Its certainly playable, just not perfect. It will get there.
It is a lovely game. It's just the graphics are poor and lag, no matter what it's set on. Can't find anything. I had to shut the music off, due to how loud it was over the ambiance. When it's off, it will play in random places. The fog, is way too bright. I hope they fix these before they launch out of the trial version.
I am happy to give a new game an opportunity and to provide feedback to help with improvement. When I first logged in to launch the game about 2 weeks ago, I was at least able to get the game started. Today, I logged in clicked on "load" and the game froze with only way to proceed as cntrl-alt-delete. Since then today, I can attempt to launch and after a black screen, the game shuts down....don't even get to the menu. Has happened multiple times so won't try again today. I have uninstalled and installed with no positive results. Will still keep trying as the game seems to have a lot of potential.....but if talking politics enters into this area, I will be gone very quickly.
What could be better than strolling around a mysterious island as a cat? What a peaceful mood and beautiful scenery. update: It's great that the team is so responsive to updates. New features are always being added.
A couple of glitches, f3/f5 resolved them. I love the opening sequence. The keycard action I don't quite get. Somehow I changed from controlling one cat to another. Don't know how that happend.
I was one of the playtesters of this game. I highly enjoyed it. Did you play Myst when you were younger? Do you like cats? Then you definitely need to give this game a shot. Keep in mind that it is still in the Early Release phase, so things may not run the way you think.
