More guessing than searching. Can't wait to see the promised update!
Thank you to ZHU YING for this curator copy. This is nonetheless an impartial review. Dear friends, I am once again sitting right on the fence with a hidden cat game, and unfortunately Steam doesn’t hand me a neutral option. This one comes from a first project by ZHU YING, and you can absolutely feel the care behind it. The concept spins around a single scene full of interatible elements, where most cats aren’t immediately visible but tucked behind objects you need to poke, drag, or trigger. It’s playful, curious, and a nice twist on the usual “spot the silhouette” routine. There’s a solid amount of content for a short session: 150 cats including small side quests requiring specific items to unlock the some of the fluff. I appreciated the low achievement count (only 6), sound sliders, and the fact that your cat total saves properly when you leave. The outer zoom works well, and the heavy use of interactibility adds a light sense of discovery instead of pure scanning. As someone who plays a lot of hidden cat titles, I liked seeing a developer try a slightly different rhythm. That said, the experience leans a bit too far into guessing instead of searching. The zoom isn't powerful enough, there’s no fullscreen or resolution options, and progress for certain fetch quests doesn’t always save when leaving. The biggest hurdle though, is the absence of a hint system. Because many cats are fully hidden behind interactions rather than visible (even minimally) in the environment, the gameplay slowly turns into a clicking marathon. Add to that some animals looking very similar to said cats, plus untranslated achievements and it becomes harder than intended for the wrong reasons. Price-wise, it’s also competing with a genre that currently offers more QoL features for similar or lower cost. With a hint system, clearer visual definition, and a few comfort options like dark mode or animation toggles, this could have landed much stronger. I still respect the fresh approach and I’ll absolutely keep an eye on what ZHU YING creates next, because the foundation is there and the idea has real potential.
I've completed over 600 hidden object games, and this has to be one of the most frustrating experiences. In general, the game is fine. There's 150 cats to locate and a number of additional puzzles to solve, including a block sliding puzzle, colour matching and memory game. There's also a number of cats which can only be found when you complete a fetch quest - e.g. locate 5 worms, 20 crabs etc. And this is where the frustration comes in. I managed to get to 148 cats in about an hour. It then took me an additional 5.5 hours to find a single heart to unlock the last 2 cats. 5.5 hours! There's several very obvious hearts around the game which do no count at all, and I eventually found the last heart ... somewhere. I resulted to randomly clicking around the screen and at some point clicked on the final heart without knowing. Along the way I reset the game twice. First by accident - if you press the Delete key whilst the game is open it erases all of your data without any confirmation/warning. The second time I reset on purpose in case the heart was glitched or more obvious when no cats were moving on the screen. The real kicker? I now want to reset my game to play it again an properly find the last heart. But now I'm at 100% completion the delete key no longer works. So now I can't replay the game, even after deleting the files or uninstalling. In the process, I did make a guide to hopefully help other players have a far less frustrating experience. I may even use a second PC to play it some more to try and locate that final heart and offer hints on some of the other puzzles/well hidden cats. But I've had such a sour relationship with this game because of a single item. Interested in other Hidden Object Games?
