There are some minor problems, like settings that is not actually working. It's impossible to turn of sound fully, when you try game fully restarting, sometimes it's just freezing on black screen. It's simply sad and ruining immersion. For the narrative part, I truly don't understand why you decide to add "scientists" to the plot. If it was a twist for the second game with it's own lore, it would be great. But for now it's like an additional comic relief, that kinda out of place? The story is heartwarming and hilarious. Art very colorful and attractive. In general it's a very good, lighthearted story that I suggest to give a go
urocza visual novel
Paws and Effect is an unapologetically quirky, character-driven visual novel that blends absurd comedy with moments of genuine emotional reflection. Developed by Shimmersoft and published by Sedoc LLC, the game builds its entire identity around a premise that sounds like a joke but gradually reveals surprising thematic depth: two beloved dogs suddenly turn into humans, and their owner is forced to help them navigate adulthood, responsibility, and personal identity while her own life is already on shaky ground. The story follows Sadie, a struggling law graduate whose life is unraveling due to professional uncertainty, strained relationships, and emotional burnout. Just as things seem unmanageable, reality takes a sharp left turn when her dogs transform into adult humans overnight. What initially feels like pure comedic chaos quickly becomes the engine for a narrative about caretaking, self-worth, and the awkward transition into adulthood. The game uses the dogs’ literal unfamiliarity with human norms as a clever narrative mirror, highlighting how arbitrary and overwhelming modern adult life can feel even to those who are supposedly prepared for it. Choice and consequence sit at the heart of the experience. Nearly every meaningful interaction allows the player to steer conversations, relationships, and emotional outcomes in different directions. Decisions influence not only how other characters perceive Sadie, but also how the transformed dogs develop their own personalities, coping mechanisms, and worldviews. These branching paths lead to multiple endings, each reflecting a different interpretation of responsibility, independence, and emotional growth. The game encourages replay without demanding it, making alternate routes feel like legitimate perspectives rather than “correct” or “wrong” outcomes. The writing is the game’s strongest asset. Dialogue oscillates smoothly between sharp sarcasm, self-aware humor, and unexpectedly sincere introspection. The dogs, despite their ridiculous situation, are written with consistency and emotional grounding, retaining traces of their canine instincts while genuinely struggling to understand human complexity. Their attempts to interpret concepts like jobs, dating, social etiquette, and self-identity are frequently hilarious, but also tinged with vulnerability. This balance prevents the humor from becoming shallow and allows the story to land emotional beats that feel earned rather than manipulative. Visually, Paws and Effect adopts a clean, hand-drawn style that emphasizes expression and personality over technical spectacle. Character portraits are expressive and well-composed, allowing subtle facial changes to convey tone shifts during conversations. Backgrounds are detailed enough to ground scenes without overwhelming the text, keeping focus firmly on character interaction. The overall presentation feels intimate and deliberately restrained, aligning well with the narrative’s focus on personal moments rather than grand events. Sound design is used sparingly but effectively. Music cues are reserved for emotionally significant scenes or tonal shifts, enhancing key moments without dominating the experience. The absence of voice acting places full emphasis on the writing, which generally holds up under that scrutiny. The pacing of scenes varies depending on player choices, but the game largely avoids dragging, maintaining a rhythm that alternates between comedic beats and reflective pauses. Where the game may divide players is in its tonal confidence. Its humor leans heavily into absurdism, sarcasm, and occasionally dark or awkward situations, which may not resonate with everyone. Additionally, while the branching narrative offers variety, some paths feel more fleshed out than others, and certain endings may feel quieter or more ambiguous than players expect. However, these rough edges feel more like the result of narrative ambition than oversight, reflecting the game’s interest in emotional realism over tidy conclusions. Replayability is thoughtfully supported through chapter selection and branching awareness, allowing players to revisit key decisions without replaying the entire story. This design choice respects the player’s time while encouraging exploration of alternate emotional arcs. Seeing how small conversational shifts lead to different outcomes reinforces the game’s central message about responsibility and influence, both over others and oneself. Ultimately, Paws and Effect is a visual novel that succeeds by committing fully to its strange premise and trusting its writing to carry the experience. Beneath the surface-level absurdity lies a story about burnout, caretaking, and the uncomfortable process of growing into adulthood, whether you’re human or not. It may not appeal to players seeking high drama or conventional romance, but for those who enjoy character-focused storytelling, sharp humor, and branching narratives with emotional weight, it offers a distinctive and memorable experience that lingers well beyond its final scene. Rating: 6/10

painfully written. It has writing issues where you can tell this was written by one person and it shows. Not that it's a bad thing to be written by one person, but if you know what I mean by this you'll know what I mean, like it's a first draft that's a stream of consciousness, there isn't checking. That can still be appealing, but I don't like their style and honestly the way they think of dogs and people...
Short, adorable, and funny. I laughed out loud a couple of times, and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
