A nice, but short shmup. The stages are pretty long, but there's just 4 of them. The game has an interesting setting and characters. Boss design is quite good and the battles themselves are decent enough. Graphically it looks good and there were no readability problems throughout the entire game. Some enemy units look maybe a little too generic, but they fit the Neo-Aztec style well, so it's not that much of an issue. The weapon's Trinity mechanic was a bit confusing to use at the beginning, but it turned out ok after a while. It's basically Ikaruga's system expanded to 3 colors, but without the total penalty for mismatching them. If you attack with the wrong one - you still do damage, but the extra perk you get is maybe not the one you wished for. 7/10 perhaps?
Pawarumi is extremely fun. The polish is incredible, and the stages are fantastic. I truly love this game, it's one of the best shmups I've ever played.
I kickstarted this game and haven't been disappointed. To call it an indie game really doesn't do it justice - the level of polish is very high. Nice 2.5D graphics that are reminiscent of Radiant Silvergun or Zero Gunner 2, interesting weapon mechanics and a deep scoring system really make Pawarumi stand out among 'indie' games, and with just about the right level of difficulty not to scare beginners off. The game has 5 levels each with it's own unique theme - first level is a snow base, second is a weapons factory set in industry and lava, find the rest out for yourself :-p. With mid bosses and bosses that you can blow bits off to maximize score, anyone who's played shooters before will be right at home. Only real omission is the lack of a 2 player mode. Definitely worth £12.99 of anyone's money!
Relatively rare for a shmup to use 3-D graphics, and of those few, rarer still are they easy and enjoyable to play. PAWARUMI knocks that out of the park. I LOVE this weapon triangle system! The classic Ikaruga binary style has evolved with a third weapon. YOU choose based on the weapon you select whether you destroy enemies faster, charge your super power, or recharge your shield. It's not some pickup that only drops from a specific enemy. It's not a hidden item you have to blow up after oh-so-much damage. The reward is locked behind a wall of skill, skill you must learn, practice, and master. What's brilliant about this system is you have incredible versatility in how you play. Stick to one of the three weapon styles and you'll charge defense, super power, and attack stronger evenly. Masterfully utilize all three, and you'll maximize your efficiency! That's AWESOME!! Game runs super smoothly, presentation is spot-on, menu music reminds me of Metroid Prime, gameplay is fiendishly challenging yet totally fair, good arcade speed on the controls. Get it. Get it now.
A polished shmup with a Jamestown-ish sci-fi theme. You fly your machine through various locales using your three standard non-upgradable weapons that have various effects on you and your enemies, depending on their colour. It somewhat feels like rock-paper-scissors meets Ikaruga at times. Aside from that mechanic, the rest of the gameplay and scoring tactics are quite straight-forward. The graphics are very good and the OST is one of the best I've heard in a while. It also comes with three difficulty settings to choose from and online leaderboards per settting. To sum up, we have a very solid game that is guaranteed to mostly satisfy shmup enthusiasts. Recommended!
I backed this game via Kickstarter and am so glad I did. I love shoot em ups and this brings something very different to the table in the shooting dynamic. You have 3 different shots of certain colours which have different strengths against certain enemy types depending on what colour you use against them. Bit tricky in the beginning but once you work it out its very rewarding. Can't wait till this comes out of early access and goes full release. Great shoot em up and highly recommended.
It looks nicer than expected, even better than the official screenshots. Why is people missing this title?, it already became one of my daily ones. Either the intellectual reviews saying the weapon system penalizes colors are wrong or I am not living in planet Earth (more on that later). The basics are simple: 3 weapon colors, 3 enemy colors (red, green, blue). Depending on what weapon you point at every type of enemy you can: recharge your multi-kill weapon, recharge your shield or crush your enemies (kill'em faster). This is more about coordination and attention than mindlessly killing. I am all about mindlessly killing, but liked it. Works smoothly out of the box at 4K in Fedora 28 GNU/Linux + RX 580 all maxed out.
Nice weapon system and mechanics. I enjoy the different dynamics of using different weapons on different enemies in order to obtain your desired outcome. Need to recharge your shield? Want another bomb quick? Or do you just want to mow down the enemy in front of you as quickly and effectively as possible. Through the three different weapon types and enemy types these opportunities are nearly all present to you throughout the majority of gameplay. While learning the different color combinations may seem a tad daunting at first, it really doesn't take much time and will become quite intuitive after a bit of playing I believe.
