Path of the Midnight Sun

I just completed this game and I was really blown away from the whole experience. It's hard to put into words, but the whole experience was moving, and those feelings will stick with me. Path of the Midnight Sun ranks among games that made me feel something and those which have affected my life. It is overall a gripping JRPG experience. While there are classic JRPG features, the time mechanics, battle mechanics, as well as out of battle statuses feel that the action doesnt stop outside of combat. Each character has their own unique niche, and a fully-rounded, dynamic role to play in the story. The soundtrack is phenomenal. The art style is also quite nice; there are elements of anime, particularly 90s and 2000s anime as well as medieval fantasy art styles that are familiar enough to feel right at home with avid rpg fans, but also to give each area a unique identity. The story was compelling from beginning to end; each character had struggles and developed relationships that were meaningfully resolved. Humor and dark overtones were well-balanced. Each small detail left a sense of mystery and intrigue that was built upon down the line; though there are exciting surprises and twists, you can kind of see them coming if you're really paying attention. It is worth a replay to have a fuller grasp of the story. I strongly recommend trying out this game if you like rpgs and want to experience something unique and fresh. My biggest criticism of the game is that it is just a little short and small, and I really wanted to experience more of it. Knowing that this project is largely the passion project of the sole developer, who was able to bring the project to fruition with support from a community, is very inspiring. This game is very special for being able to capture so many elements that other rpgs miss.
