Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my live review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/VFd4YSbidnY This is probably one of the most underrated gems on Steam VR. Part of the reason is definitely because this game only works on the Oculus Rift / Meta Quest headsets. You must use the Oculus SDK. Unfortunately, many VR gamers had the HTC Vive back in 2019 so this game didn't get to be experienced by about half the VR population on Steam. That's unfortunate because this is probably the best particle physics sandbox. It's also a pretty darn good music visualizer. The physics and visuals are mesmerizing as you see dust particles float around as they are manipulated by the different tools. You can just trip out and zone out watching the particles dance in the abyss. I created my own scenes, although you can also use the ones provided (17 in total I believe). I turned on some Tool from YT and tripped out. This is a must buy for anyone at all interested in this type of experience. Keep in mind, there is no gameplay and this is not a game. It's a sandbox for those who want to be artistic, but perhaps don't have the best natural artistic talent. (I don't have much play time because I was given a review copy for Oculus Store when it released there a couple months ago. The developer has given me a steam key so that I can share my review here as well. My review is genuine. I have no affiliation with the developer and when I was given a key, there was no pretense that I would provide a positive review). When it comes to VR 'particle physics sandboxes', I'd tried Chroma Lab, but couldn't get into it. Particulate, right from the get go, has a really comfy and engaging tutorial. And it feels GREAT. The UI is very well designed and feels easy to use in VR, and the tutorial immediately draws out creativity from the user, teaching them to create exciting particle streams all around them. It might seem strange to get excited about a "particle physics sandbox". It's neither what we'd traditionally think of when we think of a 'game', nor is it what most would think of when we think 'art' or 'creative tool'. But through Particulate I've learned that this 'particle physics sandbox' concept is a unique and beautiful experience (it is amazing how beautiful it can be at times). It's its own genre of creative tools, accessible to anyone who enjoys 'playing with things', with its own kinds of expressive and experiential possibilities. The tools themselves are really cool! It can really feel nice creating interesting 'particle art' or set-pieces and being among it (you're in VR, remember!). There's a variety of interesting tools to manipulate the particles, as well as a recording system to record movements with your tools so you can set up some interesting dynamic scenes. There's of course ways it can be improved upon. I'm always thinking about features that could be improved or added! But what's here already is great, engaging, and easily recommendable. The priorities of my personal hopes are for the music visualization aspect (yes that's in it too!) to be improved. Right now it's kind of a subdued effect in my experience. Particulate is a very engaging and pleasing VR game/app and I'm eager to recommend it.
Written By Hidden Gems Review : https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38624426/
Particulate it's more than a VR game looks like a science project. As you can see in the video you can manipulate particles in a lot of diferent ways looks more like a study of how works the universe with the gravitation more than a game, but i'm sure anyone can enjoy playing with this. There are several modes absorbing, pushing, hitting the partices ect... and really well acomplished the physics part. While I was doing all that I don't know why the particles got increased in number not sure if they divide in more little particles or what. You can see my Gameplay here : https://youtu.be/iU40ps2gOVk
I like it.. its something thats pretty cool to play with while listening to music.. do the tutorial and itll walk ya thru it.. pretty straight forward and easy to use.. more tools would be cool tho
Particulate is an absolutely breathtaking experience for VR. We played it amongst friends and it became an instant favorite. The trailers and pictures can't accurately portray what you'll see and feel in VR; it looks amazing from the preview material, but experiencing it yourself brings it to a whole other level. This is the best particle simulator that I have tried thus far and I've tried a few now at this point. Get this game. Do it now. Support the developers.
Wow! How have I not heard of this app until now? If you like chill, mesmerizing, and creative apps you should definitely check this one out. After spending a bit learning how everything works, I was able to submerse myself in something absolutely stunning. It also doubles as the best VR music visualizer I've seen yet. A masterpiece in my book!
NOT a Movie! This is an experience you'll definitely lose track of time (and space) in.
Pretty meditative physics sandbox, especially with audio reactivity enabled. Had a very relaxed time effectively making my own Windows Media Player visualisations. Do wish there were more variety in the basic tools (like different collision shapes) but for the price and the simplicity of using it you can hardly go wrong. Hope it does get expanded out to steamVR in the future sometime so more people can enjoy, especially with the oculus facebook requirement ramping up soon. Would hate for this to be lost in the future.
Fun and well executed! 🍭 Cant wait to try it out in a slightly altered state of mind. ✨
