probably one of the best vr drumming experiences, insanely good for what its worth if you can get onto the paradb scene and download the wide range of user-made maps of popular songs. brilliant for those of us that dont have the space or luxury to own or learn a real drum kit
please add sheet music for the 2D beta its unreal, maybe more ability to move note road or sheets closer or to look down and drums to set for kit etc, look up for note road fullscreen. either way highly recommend. have the meta and steam versions
This does exactly what you see in the trailers. It's basically VR Rockband Pro, but much better. Doesn't seem to be much input lag or audio lag at all, the game runs pretty smooth, and it feels pretty natural. I'm still very new to drumming and don't have the space or money for a physical kit, so this is a great entry point. I've only just used the regular VR controller inputs and added a Rockband kick pedal I had stashed away but apparently this works with a large variety of different physical inputs as well, including MIDI controls and E-Kits. However, it might take a bit of trial and error to get things set up properly. For example, to use the Rockband kick pedal you do have to have the pedal plugged into the Rockband drum heads and those plugged into the PC, and then adjust some settings in the game. Not a big deal but I did have to look it up, and that also means you'll need those bulky things somewhere near your computer, which is something to consider for those tight on space. Basically, this game gives you access to a highly customizable and versatile virtual E-Kit that lets you play anything, anywhere. The base game songs vary in difficulty so players of any skill level can jump in, they're very slowly adding licensed DLC tracks, and there's also a very basic drum course that'll help new players get started. The only negative I can come up with is that the base game track list is very limited and the number of songs in each difficulty level are not enough to keep players interested. In my play time, I did the tutorial lessons and then I played through all of the beginner songs a few times and tried them on higher difficulties, but I was ready to play something different and didn't feel I was ready to tackle the more difficult songs yet. Fortunately, mod support is a thing now so hopefully we'll be getting a lot more variety to play. Overall, I'd recommend picking this up to anyone who is even slightly interested in drumming. Compared to the cost of getting a physical kit, this is a really cheap and convenient alternative to dip your toes in and see if drumming is for you. And if you're already a drummer, this is a great way for you take a kit everywhere for impromptu sessions or experimenting.

Why do I have to readjust the drums every single new lesson? Just keep it as it was last time! At the very least, keep the anchor position the same. I'm meant to be building muscle memory here, aren't I? How am I supposed to do that if the thing I'm trying to hit is in a slightly different position each time? Each time I go to a new lesson, the drum kit is back in its default position of "off to the side and so high I can't see the notes coming". If all you want to do is screw around with putting drums and cymbals in weird positions, the interface is perfect. If you actually want to learn the drums, it's a pain in the backside. I've heard that as you start getting in to different songs they have different drumkit layouts. Oh, great, so it's a rhythm game, then, and not actually a drum sim? ♥♥♥♥ that! I don't like rhythm games, I play by ear. This is why I learned the actual guitar and can't play Guitar Hero. I don't want to learn to sight-read an arbitrary notation to make arbitrary actions, I want to learn real muscle memory to play a real instrument. And that is, apparently, not what Paradiddle is focused on.
By far the best game of its kind, great selection of community created song maps, endless potential playtime.
One of the best VR softwares out there! Worth every single second!
hehe drum go bonk :D But seriously, this game is great. It gets you and running really fast, its intuitive, the drums sounds are dope, and most importantly, its really fun >:). Downloading and importing custom songs from the ParaDB website is super easy (unzip, then drag n drop into the correct folder (for me its Documents > Paradiddle > Songs). You can also translate most songs from Chorus Encore into the .rlrr format using a couple of different apps (there are steam guides and probably also yt videos on how to). Can confirm that it works with an Alesis DM6 e-drum kit that I'm borrowing from a buddy :p. From what I remember, the setup for the e-kit wasn't too hard. For the lowest latency, use ASIO for the audio (I'm no sound engineer or anything, just a bit of googling got me an app called ASIO4ALL which works enough for me). Sound latency is not a problem when in pure vr (no e-kit) 2D Mode is new and still needs some work. You can't move the drums or camera around, so you are stuck with the default placement of them, luckily the default drum placements are the common drum kit setup, so mimicking that with the e-kit is easy. If you want a different layout: to my knowledge it is not possible. The default camera is fine, though I would love to see an option to zoom into the note highway for easier reading (when across the room :p). Another thing I would love to see from the 2D mode (and even maybe in vr) is the ability to disconnect the drum placements from the note highway lanes. Currently, the note highway's lanes are ordered from left to right in relation to your drum kit (so if your highhat is the left most piece, then it is the first lane in the note highway), which works perfectly fine in vr as you can move the drums around. But in 2D, with more complex songs that use different kit pieces, having them locked in place makes reading the note highway harder when the e-kit doesn't match the in-game kit. All this said, 2D Mode (+ e-kit) is still goated and my favorite way to play. I love this game! :D
I remember when Guitar Hero and Rock Band became uncool. There were a bunch of people who took the interest from playing and put it in an actual instrument, and everything else went into the "lame" bucket do to overexposure or whatever. I don't know how "cool" playing Paradiddle without knowing anything about drums is. But I do know that Paradiddle takes its drumming seriously. If you don't have an immediate prospect of owning a drum set but you think it'd be fun to play drums, get Paradiddle. It's fun. It's intuitive. It offers essential learning features like slowing down the song and adjusting the relative speed of notes on the visible track. I'm a square who would rather buy my own MP3s than stick with the extensive public library of custom music, but that works fine, too. Am I playing the drums for Gimme Shelter and The Kids Aren't Alright? At the moment it's not even close. But it sure feels like it, and I can curve the diffulty just the way I want as I get closer. This is the drum app that feels like playing drums even if you don't know how. It's the one to get if you'd like to learn but for some reason can't get a set at the moment.
