You start by picking a character from a roster of more than 25 options. While each one has a unique appearance, the biggest differences come from their perks. Every character has a mix of positive green and negative red modifiers that affect various stats. For example, one character has no bonuses to health or defense but attacks twice as fast, while another specializes in elemental damage at the cost of being almost useless with firearms or melee weapons. After choosing a character, it's time to pick a weapon from an even larger selection. Weapon stats are much simpler, with attack power, cooldown, and range being the most important ones to pay attention to. Since every weapon has a limited range, firearms don't feel all that different from the rest. The gameplay follows the standard survivors formula. You move your character around a simple blank battlefield while auto aim and auto fire take care of enemies that wander into range. Enemy spawn points are marked with a red cross, giving you enough time to move away before they appear. They keep spawning in endless waves until the timer finally reaches zero. Defeated enemies drop coins that fill your experience bar when collected. Once the bar is full and the wave ends, you get to choose one upgrade from a random selection of four perks. Most of them are exactly what you would expect from the genre, including increased attack power, faster experience gain, and other familiar stat boosts. Coins are also your currency for the shop that appears between waves. Each visit offers four random items. If nothing catches your eye, you can refresh the selection, although every reroll costs more than the last. You are free to buy as many things as you can afford. If there's something you want but don't have enough coins for, you can lock it so it stays in the shop the next time you visit. The shop mainly offers items that provide small or significant stat bonuses, along with new weapons that automatically fire alongside your starting weapon. Weapon slots are limited, but duplicate weapons can be combined into stronger versions. The catch is they must be the same level, so a level 2 weapon can't be merged with a level 1. If you run out of weapon slots or simply don't need something anymore, you can sell weapons. Items don't have that limitation, so you can carry as many as you like. You can also find items during a wave by picking up gift boxes, although you won't know what's inside until the wave is over. If the reward comes with an annoying drawback or simply doesn't fit your build, you can always sell it. The gameplay loop is solid enough, and the amount of content feels appropriate for the low price. At the same time, there isn't much here that makes it stand out from the crowd. The hand drawn presentation is probably its most distinctive feature, making it look as if you're fighting doodles scribbled across a sheet of paper. I also wish there were more meaningful rewards to work toward. On top of that, I ran into a bug where the next wave started while I was still stuck in the shop, leaving the action to play out in the background. Luckily, you can fix this by quitting to the main menu and then choosing “continue”, which returns you to the last played wave.
