The thing about this game is that, on the surface it has alot going for it. Classes seem fun, the style and design is reminiscent of older MMO's and like all these games it's fun with friends. Locations are intriguing enough to make you want to explore and there is something quite charming about the design. Once you get past this glaze though the game becomes very dry and barren very quickly. First up is progression. Put simply there really isn't any kind of motivation driving you to do...well anything really. Lore is basically absent, quests aren't any more than placeholders, level ups don't come with much feeling of growth or progression and overall interactivity with the vast world isn't very engaging nor rewarding. I get that this is meant to be an old school mmo and you make the story but even the old games had some kind of carrot for you to get going - even if that carrot was just escaping jail to get your starter gear and learning the ropes. In pantheon the starting area loads in and...well there you go. You won't find much in the way of upgrade breadcrumbs (even from quests) and some classes (such as Human Dire Lords) start in basically a place-holder temple with 4-5 NPC's, none of which say anything, explain very little and lack the capability to sell things outside class abilities. There's just a lack of a reason for your character to be doing anything. Again it doesn't need to be some kind of War and Peace meta-lore, but if this game is 10 years into its development then any sense of story or narrative has yet to be worked on. This leads into consistency issues especially around the art and locations. This is, in it's defence, Early Access and boy does it show it. Placeholder text, place holder names, spelling errors, awkward graphical glitches, vendors basically standing doing nothing in empty houses and buildings. There's trappings of a plan and functional world but the dressing it comes in is rough; with staggering inconsistency to the world design. One of the first towns you come to for example has "SmallWoodenHouse.asset" buildings everywhere, some may even dare use a wooden barrel or table or two as dressing. Then in the centre of town there's basically a Bank that may as well be called "SmallFort1.asset" which runs as smooth as 20 grit sandpaper for a consistent art style. Some elements in the wilderness are interactive such as trees and nodes, then another very similar asset won't be. It becomes a bemusing guessing game that starts to just get annoying; it's a reminder than most the systems aren't a thing, don't work, or are on the (now 10 year) backlog to fix. Next is regarding gameplay; specifically Pantheons approach to group vs. solo content, and content just in general. I for one fully agree that modern MMO's make the solo-experience way too rewarding and basically have forgotten the MMO bit of their games - guilds, grouping etc have largely been supplanted for the benefit of the solo player to see everything and basically auto-battle their way to end game which then requires ever shrinking group requirements (AI NPC's are already a thing now). In Pantheon though there's a degree of leaning too hard into the opposite direction of group experience - from very early on Group is highly recommended, then becomes somewhat mandatory. For some I'd say there's going to be a culture shock of even getting from level 1 to 2 if you treat it like current mmo's. Where this works is...well group battles are fun. Where it falls down is that If there's no one to group with in an area well...enjoy excessive time to kills even basic mobs. Mob scaling across an area also fluctuates wildly; to the point that it's "evaluation system" is often way out of sync of what your chances are if you are solo. The aggro ranges and escape ranges are hard to judge when you get in trouble and punishment on death is in that weird greyzone "is this fair and tolerable?". The inconsistency at times is great - nothing is guaranteed and you find yourself sizing up opponents and making decisions to recharge and go into each fight at 100%. However whether or not one considers a particular format (solo vs group play) superior you really need both to make a functional game because not everyone can party bash or wants to for every single thing. The Dev team seem to be realising this; but unable to decide which side of the fence they want to be on - the vision from the community seems to favour group play - which again works in the context of a (currently) shrinking and closed community, the business reality is that can't be the only thing on offer so they (the devs) are currently (at time of writing) trying to tweak NPC's into tighter brackets of degree's of soloability - so you can do most things solo but some you'll just have no chance without having to actually talk to someone. Then comes big drawback at the moment - content. Or rather lack thereof. I applaud the creation of A game system that at least functions in some way. As well as a world as wide and explorable as the one in Pantheon. In addition the game has some interesting features like being able to climb up scalable surfaces which show promise; and I've not felt invisible walled at all: what you see on the horizon you can get to someway. However I don't see what's meant to draw people to this game. It has dozens of "yeah that sounds like it may be good" ideas but they aren't implemented. Unless like me you just bought it on a whim out of morbid curiosity; even the most business illiterate know that's not a sustainable means of drawing a longer term player base and by extension the game being around. From what I can see after 10 years the game still isn't even at the start line to go wider beta testing and even if it does it's got alot of "proof of concept" at best.

If have to have in game maps, question marks over quest givers, and no corpse runs, don't bother. If you're an EQ, UO , or Classic WoW fan this game is for you. I've played 56 hours as of this review and can say , I love the game. Yes it has some rough spots, and is imcomplete, but I'm really having fun My opinion on the bad reviews is that most are from people used to getting everything handed to them like modern MMO's. The game is not finished , but is still fun and the potential is huge. In short, if you want everything handed to you with little effort, look somewhere else. If you've wandered into Befallen at a low level and dropped down the hole on accident and didn't know WTF you were going to do and enjoyed the challenge, this one is for you.
4 Hours in. I am level 7 on a Dire Lord. The game is hard, and you have to be tactical when pulling and fighting enemies. Its a great fun. The class feels pretty fleshed out and I am enjoying tanking. Been waiting to play this since 2010. Nice to say I finally have. I will 100% be continuing to play this game.
Pantheon Rise of the fallen Review I am playing online games since the days where you paid by the minute to access the intranet and used a modem to do so. My very first online game was Ever Quest and it was an amazing experience. I played pretty much all MMORPGs that came out since then and enjoyed most of them, at least for a time. Of course I had checked out the initial kick starter, but with Brad’s track record of big plans and under delivering, he did not get a backing from me at that time. When I saw the Early Access on Steam, I could not stop myself from buying a copy and trying the game out. General Overall, I am enjoying the game a lot, it has the same feel as EQ had, a more modern look, the actual PvE experience is well crafted. It has a basic crafting system with some complexity, but overall lack lustre, since EQ days they still have not learnt that their economic model is fraud and will fail, because if you only add to an economy things will always spiral out of proportion! The solo and group experiences are well made and the game shines with the camps and dungeons it offers to group of players. The dungeons are atmospheric, well made and a fun experience. Players have to work well together and focus on their roles to have a enjoyable experience, here they managed to get it right. The community on my server is mostly friendly and helpful and it’s relatively easy to find a group to join and play with. Sadly the community is in a rapid decline and I see less and less players around on a daily basis. This brings me to my biggest critic point here: Roadmap / Continuous Development The development of the game is still ongoing, however it is hard to follow and understand their decisions here! First point on that roadmap were the implementation of PvP servers, really? When you think PvP you think EQ yes? Then they wanted to polish existing abilities and classes, this has not happened to the extend needed in my humble opinion and next they wanted to deliver new content for the level range of 35+ If you want to safe this game and make the game work, you need to get your priorities right urgently! All classes need to be a fun playing experience, like DL / paladins are. Other classes are subpar to those and do not feel like they have a clear vision how they should play out. 10 years of development and you got something so basic not worked out? You need to fix your existing zones, there are too many things not fixed, geometry issues, flying objects, objects without colliders etc. etc. If anybody at your end would play the game you must have seen that yourself, I did and your other customers did too! For god’s sake, play your game once a week and you will see those things I am talking about here! Reconsider your development efforts and deliver! PvP servers, that was a priority to you? When someone thinks EQ they go yeah what a great PvP game. The second point on your roadmap was to fix classes, you failed here and people get upset by the changes you throw in and then have to fix. The third point were new dungeons for higher level players, for lvl 35 +, and you delivered something, I can not check this out as it will be a while until I am in that level range, but you should fix the existing zones first before adding more content. I just hope you fixed SP as well as introduces 2 new dungeons, because the state that zone is in is sad. Now after this bit of critic, I still would recommend the game, as it is fun and you can have a great time up to level 25 for sure. Make sure to make friends and socialize, because to have a great time you need to find groups and explore the group content. I got 900 + hours of fun for 40 bugs, so yes, the game is well worth it.
5/6/2026 Failed to consider Steam users when releasing a public test server. Made a few excuses and kept doing whatever they were doing over the weekend. This game may continue to exist in the future and not fall into the "Ashes of Creation" pit (it's on the edge). Do not expect a professional offering. This project is more of a passion project for a few people who are trying to also turn it into a quick buck while they spend their free time making a game.
Devs ruined the game
VR is biased, only chooses to enforce rules when it suits them or players they like, cant be consistent, very hard to play by the rules if you get punished anyways because a lesser guild cries about not being able to compete in the open world @VR_Aspen I have reported this KS behavior in the past and this was your Pantheon Support Team's response: Thank you for your report. The current rules of engagement has no camps and no one can own a camp. Experience is given by most damage done which encourages normal competition for monster. Harassment isnt allowed though so we have noted your report. We never said anything to the other players in /say, we never followed them, we never did anything to break YOUR rules. We came, we saw, we killed the mob and moved back to our grind. You saying this is toxic behavior only shows your hipocracy towards other players.
**Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen – 0/10 – An Absolute Scam (Do NOT Buy)** I pre-purchased this game months ago specifically because the official website and newsletter clearly advertised Australian/OCE servers at launch. That was the entire reason I handed over my money – decent ping matters when you’re on the opposite side of the planet. Fast-forward to the end of 2025, I finally clear my schedule to play this “visionary” MMO that’s been in development for a literal decade… and guess what? The Australian servers are gone. Vanished. No warning, no announcement, just quietly scrubbed from existence. Now the only options are US East, US West, and EU. From Australia that means 200-300ms ping at best on a good day, with constant rubber-banding, delayed skill activation, and an utterly unplayable experience in any group content. I immediately opened a support ticket requesting a full refund because the product I paid for no longer exists in the form it was sold to me. This isn’t “early access growing pains” – this is straight-up false advertising and bait-and-switch tactics. They took money from an entire region under the promise of playable servers, then silently deleted them when it became inconvenient. The game itself is a clunky, dated, unfriendly mess even if you have good ping, but removing the one thing that made it viable for Oceanic players is unforgivable. Visionary Realms should be ashamed. Anyone in Australia or New Zealand who still has a package: demand your money back while you still can. This company has proven they cannot be trusted to honor what they sell. Worst purchase I’ve ever made in 25 years of gaming. Absolute garbage. Stay far, far away.
Listen, I am also a early supporter of the game and was a higher tier pledge. The game is taking longer than expected but at least its in EA versus nothing. Yes, the direction of the game has gone multiple directions but it is back to where it was originally. The game is fun. The game brings back nostalgia. It reminds me of EQ. Its scary to run at night, some classes like EQ require grouping while others can solo no problem. its definitely a work in progress. The game is fun. Thats all that matters.
So its been a year, and I dont think anything meaningful has been added. At what point can we call it a scam? I thought steam had just recently updated its early access rules and im fairly certain this game has breached them. It said when I bought it the planned EA time was two years, in that case they have damn near an entire game to create in a year. The original zones from the first day arent even finished yet lol. A few friends and I dove deep into this game and after reaching level 20, basically quit. and yes, it took a long ass time. You group up with others and camp a mob spot and just kill stuff for dozens of hours, then move to a new spot and repeat. There is no proper dungeon crawling or exploration, Maybe HC is a dungeon idk, seemed more like an indoor mob farm vs an outdoor one. I do not see this game EVER being finished. I believe Id have a better chance of finding the dragon balls and wishing for it. Dont be scammed, its not worth the money. The server we played on along with damn near all the others are gone/merged/whatever. The only community left are the sunk cost mfs whove been funding this game for a decade. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Steam - Whats the point of early access stipulations if they dont really matter anyway? Theyve added 1 class, maybe 1/4th of a zone? stat changes. After a year of absence I check it out and there are no new things to do at all. oh wait druid. heh
