I love the amount of brain knowledge i have to do to make suer my colonists dont die a horrid death
I want to fully recommend this game, but there's some issues. I get that part of the puzzle of this game is setting things up in a way where the duplicants *can't* kill themselves, but my god it seems like they go out of their way to try. There's a lot of small issues I have with this game that add up to an annoying experience. When you finally get atmo suits, the game finally "unlocks", but then they don't ever put the suit back on the dock unless you click the duplicant, unequip the suit then have another duplicant re-deliver it to the dock. That's super frustrating. Liquid and gas mechanics are cool, but you can't easily split them without a mod, and the mod breaks often. I get that there's some mechanic that I'm not understanding on this specific point. Power generation is an issue until you get either hydrogen or natural gas vent, and unless you build everything out of gold it melts constantly. So then you get solar panels, and think "i finally got this stable" but no, meteor showers destroy all your hard work about every 10 cycles, and it takes about 8 cycles to fix all the damage. Okay fine so I'll build solid gold collectors and lean more into hydrogen/natural/petroleum gas power. Oh no they all create heat, and the heat spreads to my crops which die. Okay fine I'll restart. Build the gas generators in a cold biome, that'll work, right? Now they have cold damage every few ticks. It feels like you can't really win. This game is fun in that you have to balance several systems including heat, water, oxygen, power, food, morale, germs... I just never found the right balance to have it be even partially sustainable in over 150h. Or the moment I find the right balance, my duplicates all try their hardest to kill themselves, a meteor shower knocks out solar power right when my gas geysers go dormant and every dies... EVERY TIME. "no, stop pissing in your drinking water when the toilet is usable 10 feet away" "return the atmosphere suit to the dock so that you can use it again next time, don't sleep in it in -15C brine and then suffocate" "stop going into the magma biome at 1500c to 'warm up' from being cold" "stop building the outside wall from the outside!" "can you ♥♥♥♥♥♥ quit locking yourself in a room full of 80c hydrogen gas?" tl;dr game presents itself as "engineering simulator to figure out a multitude of interwoven problems' but it's actually just a remake of "don't let your kids kill themselves simulator" I do actually recommend this game, but be prepared to learn all the jank that comes with it, and be prepared to fail a lot as you figure out bugs pretending to be mechanics. Also it runs on linux.

Very good
ONI is one of the longer running 2D survival games. Its easy to start and gets progressively tougher as you play. Be warned. Standard mechanics such as crafting and crops exist. Those are both key to surviving and advancing. The tech tress is great and meaningful over time. Just about anything can and will kill of off you crew. You can die due to flooding, starving, and illness. Gases and their handling matter the most. The mechanics seem straightforward but as you play, management gets more challenging. Your little people care about hygiene, sleep, and food. And they are messy, will leave stuff laying around, and on occasion leave themselves stuck ( I always blame them.) and drown, suffocate, etc. I love: * graphics - cartoony with a touch of humor and goofiness. Definitely better than pixel part. Play is smooth, with no visual glitches. * replay ability - not only is it fun to start over, you're going to want to. * requires some management skill - this can be too much but it's a plus early on if you're organized and good at puzzling out paths. * character autonomy - you can give them instructions but they will do other things as well. * it doesn't require a high end PC to play. The target audience could be the people playing Rimworld. Death happens in this game but more cartoonish. I wouldn't recommend this for younger players that are sensitive or unable to deal with overly complex systems.
