Outsider

The story hooks you in very early on. I've played a lot of story driven games and VNs over the recent years and Outsider is in it's own category, out of the ones I've played at least. The characters are well written and have their own unique personalities. Rarely does a story have me sit back in silence thinking about what I just experienced. I did not encounter any bugs either. Both the music and the visuals are fantastic. The game is between 10 - 13 hours depending on how fast you are. Took me just over 11 hours and that was with a few pauses to allow what I just read to fully sink in. Now that the story is over I feel a little sad. A great story, very much enjoyed it from start to finish. I'd like to experience it again with an empty mind if I could.

this is a reading game with choices. i've always liked the old choice of games books and this is up that alley. being the voice inside someone's head is a good fertile field for ideas. i'm just starting but i appreciate it

I was one of the play testers for Outsider. It took me about 12.6 h to go through the entire content, considering I'm a slow reader. The game mechanics is very different from anything I've seen, which was refreshing. The story also had a good progression. There was enough information to understand the story and pick up clues to where things were going, and the stories also introduced scientific concepts that I could look up if I wanted to learn more about. Another thing I appreciated about this game was that the chapters length were perfect to read for like 30min, in case you don't have much time to play in the day. So you can go through 2-3 chapters each day. Towards the end, I was reading 5+ chapters because I was hooked to the story. Overall, this game is worth your time and money. I hope there will be a sequel :)

What an amazing story! The game is unlike anything I've ever played before. It's almost like a text-based choose your own adventure book but the choices seem to shape your overall perspective of the people and topics being discussed. It is very well-written and deeply engaging with interesting and nuanced characters. It feels like a slow start but it pays off. The game also appears to have more hidden under the surface with a puzzle that I haven't been able to solve... yet. I highly recommend!

It's a text game in a form of a messaging chat, but I was captivated by the story and realized that I was getting attached to the characters despite never seeing them or hearing their voices. I had a wonderful time playing it and also enjoyed the humor in it.

Addictive! A niche game, but I thought it was very well done! Believable dialogue, relatable characters, imaginative settings, and just a charming little plot line. You can tell the author put a lot of time into it. It's a story that lingers with you, well after you've played it. Thanks! :-)

This is definitely a high quality game, with awesome storytelling about science, traveling, and humanity. Even if this WERE published as a sci-fi novel I honestly think it would be a success. My favorite parts are its compatibility with all kinds of screens, I can play with remote desktop on a tablet, regular monitors, and even with TVs in a couch. The controller support is pretty smooth as well, making the couch option even more ergo. The puzzles ARE hard and it remain mystery for me. But it does not affect the gameplay itself. I'm sooooo curious about the puzzles and wondering what it would reveal... Oh I forgot to mention - play with audio on! The music is dope!!!

I really enjoyed this game. Initially I was hesitant because of the price (I think I paid around 10 bucks for it on sale), but then I thought, "You know what? A good book is worth that amount of money." And this is a good book. The characters were believable and enjoyable, and the pacing was good. I'm a medium-fast reader, and it took me around 8 or 9 hours to get through the story. Now I'm working on the optional puzzles. Pros: -Captivating, well-written story. -Accurate depictions of scientific concepts and early hacker culture, without being overwhelming for players less familiar with these topics. -I didn't notice a single typo or grammatical issue, and I'm sensitive to that sort of thing. Hats off to the developer for their QA.
