Very short classic Hidden Objects game. The story about a man who is a historian received an invitation from a businessman called John Atkins to visit an old abandoned town to discover some old things, Alas the man turned out to be a criminal who is trying to find a treasure and needs someone who can read symbols. Atkins captured the man's wife to force him to work for him. Bill had no other choice but to work for the greedy man to free his wife. During his search, he found a talesman and scattered letters from Corwin, the man who has the treasure Atkins looking for. Can Bill free his wife and find the treasure? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2102171537 The map is not large and there is a fast traveling function. I liked the journal which kept all the letters you pick up as well as the character's thoughts. A well-done journal, if only there is an indicator showing that there is a new entry would be better. The music is not bad either, but the artwork is a bit dated. I didn't like the hidden objects scenes, however, the puzzles are good and a couple of them are unique, also one of them keeps repeating because it is the way to acquire the talesman. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2102190721 Voice-overs are average, the same level as the story itself, there is nothing special about it if you don't mind how short it is. The game can last up to an hour and a half. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2102272518 Pros: +Fast traveling map. +OK Soundtracks. +Multiple hidden objects scenes +Ok-ish voice-overs. +Variety of puzzles (One of them repeated multiple times to acquire an item) +Good Journal. Cons: -No Steam achievements. -Short game. -Average story. It is not a bad game yet not perfect, good to play if you run out of HOGs or want to spend an hour playing something casual.
Outlaws: Corwin's Treasure
Indie from 2020. A week ago you received an invitation to visit the ancient, abandoned city of St. Martica from Mr. John Atkins, a wealthy businessman, who promised to share with you a recent and significant Mayan archaeological discovery! As a historian, you found this opportunity too good to pass up. However, when you reached the city, your wife is kidnapped! Now you are forced to help Atkins and his gang search for the famous treasure. (Editor) Search game in an adventure style with mini-games and hidden object elements. All this in an hour and a half of playing time. But let's take a look at it in detail. The search, how and where does it continue? not so great. It's not linear and sometimes very illogical, so use the typing function, it works well. Mini-games, sometimes easy, sometimes difficult, you can skip these. Mostly not standard off-the-shelf games, I was able to solve most of them without any help. Hidden object pictures, whenever things get too illogical there is a hidden object picture somewhere, these are mostly easy. However, it cannot be done so quickly because of the poor graphics, and the translation into German also has some deficiencies in the names of the objects. The graphics are old-fashioned, so not that satisfactory for today's times. And finally the adventure, silly is all I can think of. Not bad and integrated into the game fairly well. In summary, this game is either made by beginners, then this is quite ok. Or a commissioned job that was quickly thrown out the window. Whatever. As a little game for in between Recommended.
Outlaws: Corwin's Treasure
Absolutely terrible.
So so so so bad. Quite possibly the worst HOG I've played in a long time yet, in every possible aspect. Hidden object scenes A kiwi fruit is labelled "avacado" (sic), and a flask with water is the "inkpot" the game is looking for, in one of the hidden object scenes. Various other wrongly-named items in other HO scenes abound, making them impossible to find, unless you somehow come from the same planet as the game's creator in which kiwis are called "avAcados". Story Narration is boring and anticlimactic. Story moves abruptly from one scene to another with no bridging narration, so you have to check the in-game diary to get clued in. Captions are rife with spelling/grammar mistakes. What started out as an interesting premise quickly becomes a complete farce when you discover how absolutely stupid some of the plot points are. Just one small example: the bad guys lock you in a room and leave a big, sharp knife on the table for you to use, which you then discard after slashing some netting. Because that's what big, sharp knives are for - cutting netting so you can find stuff, and not using as a potential weapon against your enemies. 11/10 for logic. Hurray! And oh, don't even get me started on how the bad guys need your help in opening a puzzle box even a kindergartener could solve! Puzzles The mini puzzles are kindergarten-level type, not one bit fun at all, and very crudely done. The adventure component puzzles are no better as you're not clued in at all about what you might need certain objects for, or what purpose they might serve. E.g. You're supposed to hack off part of a wooden railing, which is to be used as a lever of sorts. Nothing hints at this intention, and going by the looks of it, the flimsy railing doesn't even look like it could withstand the weight of the object you're trying to lift. Graphics If you're used to the shiny, sparkly, brilliantly coloured, semi-animated, gorgeously illustrated & highly immersive environments that many of the higher-quality HOGs offer, move on, because you sure as heck won't find them here. Sound/Music Utterly generic and barely there, except for a super annoying & really loud "abracadabra-like" jingle that scared the hell out of me the first time it sounded.
Conclusion
An exciting premise completely ruined by utterly idiotic plot points, godawful writing and jerky story flow. Unplayable hidden object scenes due to multiple wrongly-labelled items. Crudely-done boring puzzles. Final rating: 0 out of 5 stars
Do not buy this game! It is ridiculously short, as if someone ran out of budget before finishing it. (Ignore Steam's reported game time for me, it is more like 1 hour really.) If you insist, here's what to expect: a mediocre and overly easy casual point-and-click adventure. Every aspect of this game is average. Hidden-object scenes and puzzle mini-games are trivially simple. Graphics are comparatively bland. The story is predictable from within the first minute. And the characters are so cliché that they could have been funny parodies, but unfortunately this game pretends to be serious. Sometimes the sum is greater than its parts, but in this case the experience as a whole falls flat. If there's one "difficult" part of the game is that some puzzles require you to click at the exact right place. But that's not a fair challenge, that's just frustrating and annoying. Also, I experienced bugs. I tried to customize my diffidently level in the menu but it kept switching back to "easy" mode when I quit, even though my game location was saved correctly. And the names of objects don't always match. E.g. a kiwi is not an avocado.
Follow our curator for similar games
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/35180752-3-point-play/ HOG + decent puzzles - dated graphics = Treasure hunting in a wild west setting. Out of the 50+ HOGs we played, this is in the middle of the group. Not great or bad, but another to add to the library.

Follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
Outlaws: Corwin's Treasure: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ How weird would it be to receive a special invitation from someone you don’t know to visit an old abandoned village where an ancient artefact has supposedly been discovered. For me, I’d be convinced it was a scam or a bad joke from one of my friends. But if I was an historian, it just might be the most exciting news of my life, potentially leading to further, bigger discoveries. Believe it or not, this scenario actually happened to an historian named Mr. William In Outlaws: Corwin’s Treasure. Outlaws: Corwin’s Treasure is a casual hidden objects adventure game with a few puzzles developed by Urchin Games and published by HH-Games on the 6th of May 2020 on Steam. The game consists of 15 locations within the village of St. Martica and surrounds. You play the historian, Mr. William, who has the splendid idea of bringing his wife with him on this trip. It quickly becomes clear that the businessman who sent him the invitation to St. Martica is more astute in criminology than he is in legal enterprises. The penny drops for Mr William when his wife is held hostage and he’s left with a Mayan artefact - an intriguing box which he must open in order to save his lovely wife from suffering tragic circumstances. Being conned like that would leave you feeling more than a little peeved, wouldn’t it? But on the bright side, having the task of opening an ancient Mayan box would be pretty exciting. The gameplay is what you would expect from this genre of game, where you have to hover over the locations to find objects you can use to move forward within the story. In some instances, you’ll need to use a couple of items to pick up another one, but for the most part, you can just use an object from your inventory to free another within the locations. You’ll move back and forth a couple of times between the locations, but no more than that. And if you are stuck, you can use the hint button on the right side of your screen. In terms of proper hidden and objects puzzles, there are not many and they’re very easy to complete. Yes, there are a few other little puzzles, but again they are very easy to do. You’ll also be able to interact with a few other characters within the story, and that’s about it. The game is very short, and you’ll probably finish your first playthrough in well under two hours. The graphics are ok and the game runs very well on Windows 10, which is really good. In terms of controls, you’ll use the mouse all way through as a normal point and click game. Positives: ~~~~~~~ + Nice graphics + Easy to play + The game runs well on Window 10 Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - No achievement or trading cards - Too few puzzles - Very short game Help the Historian Mr. William the secret of old Mayan boxes in Outlaws: Corwin’s Treasure. 5/10 Key provided by the developer/publisher for review purposes.
The words in the hidden object scenes were often misleading or flat-out wrong (says "avocado" when the thing to find was very clearly a kiwi, etc.). As far as the story, the first thing that happened was that the player character's wife was taken hostage by some criminals, and it came off as pretty sexist. Maybe later in the story she'll actually be useful and interesting, but as it stands she seems to just be present to motivate her husband to save her. Boring. Additionally, items with "Mayan magic" played a big role, and it seems like the writers just picked a non-white civilization at random for some inauthentic mysticism.
Outlaws: Corwin's Treasure is a mobile app-like hidden object/puzzle/adventure game where you tap on your iPhone screen to locate various hidden objects in various piles of junk. There's a Wild West theme, but who cares. This is just more mobile shovelware from HH-Games being dumped on Steam to pollute the place while they make another cash grab for trash. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just iPhone screen tapping stuff. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. This looks and feels like a mobile app, but it doesn't seem to have made it to the app stores. It's unclear why this was put on Steam instead of the app stores it seems to have been designed for. Maybe it was removed, maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all). Regardless, for all intents and purposes "Outlaws: Corwin's Treasure" might as well be a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. We don't spend all this money building gaming rigs so we can pretend they're iPhones and play games that might as well be mobile apps. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. This game features a small number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. Positive reviews for this game should be taken with a grain of salt due to the suspicious nature of these reviews. Outlaws: Corwin's Treasure has the insane price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product. It's inferior to better free mobile apps like the ones from Artifex Mundi, so if this is the kind of game you really, really want to play, grab your iPhone and hit the app store.
Profile Features Limited!
Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
