About
Outbreak: Shades of Horror is inspired by retro survival horror from the '90s and '00s! The title blends bleeding edge tech and modern gameplay mechanics with archaic concepts from the roots of survival horror, like a restricted inventory, heavy resource management, and crushing difficulty. If you're an old hat, or a lover of the past, you'll find a lot to love in the janky but crushing experience. If that's not your jam, proceed with caution as this nightmare is unforgiving!
Experience the harrowing beginning of a full-scale Zombie Apocalypse as it descends on the Midwestern city of Cypress Ridge. Start from the (relative) safety of the beloved local movie theater, Cypress Reel. Choose between a central cast of 9 characters, with loads more on the way, and then venture out into a city fundamentally changed with the goal to survive and outlast the mysterious horrors that have suddenly arisen?
Outbreak: Shades of Horror gives the player many different ways to survive and thrive during Cypress Ridge’s Apocalypse. During our Early Access Sneak Peek, Survivors will be able to access two of the game’s main modes and a host of mini-games via the Cypress Ridge Arcade in both single-player and in online co-op for two to four players over the network.
Find and manage resources, engage in modern gunplay and melee combat, build contraptions and defenses, and much more as you do battle with the scourge of the night. Quickly switch between third and first-person views at the push of a button to hunt the undead the way you please!
Raid Mode: Navigate twisted environments and hordes of zombies to make it to the evac point. Loot and shoot as you try to endure increasingly difficult challenges the closer you get to freedom.
Invasion Mode: Defend your camp and crew from the incoming Zombie horde! Build up a base, and create and upgrade defenses in order to save the day.
Between rounds of running and gunning, there is plenty to do at Cypress Reel. Shop ‘til you drop at Ferret’s Emporium, where you can earn new guns, weapon skins, and millions of different combos of clothing to customize your character just the way you like. If you are in the mood for a different kind of game, Cypress Reel Arcade has a vast array of small-scale mini modes to cleanse your palette before you go back to chasing zombie flesh. Can you survive the Boss Rush gauntlet? Will you be able to skip a creepy rural town in Looming Dread? Test your reflexes as you escape a flooding subway tunnel in Collapse! While short and sweet, these mini-games will put your skills through drills! Plus – with adjustable difficulties, there’s always new challenges to face.
Players will also have access to Outbreak: Shades of Horror Chromatic Split, the original prologue to Shades of Horror, and an all new side story, Trials of Hank.
Shades of Horror: Chromatic Split Enhanced Edition: Enjoy the classic, three act prequel to the main game, now enhanced with new weapons, items, and mechanics. Can Lydia get essential information from her contact in the Cypress Ridge underground before it’s too late?
Trials of Hank: While Lydia is traversing the underground in Chromatic Split, fan-favorite Hank hits the rooftops in this over-the-top side campaign where the answers to all of life’s problems are lead, explosions, and more lead! Will Hank complete his mission, or will the monsters that haunt the Cypress Ridge skyline be too much for him to handle?
Challenges and Events: Seasonal and game-crossover events begin immediately with a Halloween celebration and DINOBREAK-themed content and cosmetics. Players can enjoy fun decorations in the theater, thrilling seasonal maps, special challenges to complete, and unique rewards to earn. In addition, test your mettle with Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Crossover and Seasonal challenges.

G0d d4mn it! PD: Si ves un tipo rodeao de zombies bugueaos pegándoles con las llaves...soy yo. No me salven 💩
At the moment, I can't recommend this game. It's very ambitious, but the use of AI art in the game is really frustrating. I think the developer should disclose the use of AI art, even if being used as a "placeholder."

Bought this game on release and i have been having a blast! I think this game has great potential and im looking forward to seeing it grow. The only issues i have with the game is that there is no individual setting for the TPS aiming sensitivity. I use controller and its hard to play TPS POV. An option to make the HUD smaller would benefit very well, and of course optimization in the future for keeping a steady 60 FPS. Would definitely recommend especially for RE Outbreak fans!
I'm a Kickstarter Backer for this game. Dead Drop Studios has really stepped up its game. The fact that they have added co-op is huge, which really aims to be a modern Resident Evil Outbreak alternative. Co-op is accessible through the Hub, which allows you to access the majority of the game's content. There are multiple game modes. Currently, it is Raid Mode (think Resident Evil Raid Mode) and Invasion Modes (think tower defense). There are plenty of maps for these modes. However, the best map in the game is the Dinobreak Raid Mode map, which is selectable in the Hub by going into the bathroom on the right! PSA: Play the Dinobreak/Contagious Memories map!!! DDS cooked with this map, seriously! The Story mode is coming, starting in Spring 2026. There should be about 4-6 more episodes. You can level characters up to increase stats by completing daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. There are also a ton of cosmetics to unlock. There is a lot to do at the moment. However, once the story mode scenarios come, this game will fire on all cylinders. As a bonus, the prequel Chromatic Split is included as an Enhanced Edition along with the Trials of Hank mini-campaign. It plays much better now, incorporating the feedback from the previous version. These campaigns are also playable in co-op through the Hub. They had massively improved performance as well from the original Shades of Horror: Chromatic Split prequel release. I strongly recommend using DLSS/FSR along with Screen Percentage. Enabling Megalights will bring a 50-80% framerate boost when using it alongside Lumen. In single-player modes, press P to go into Photo Mode, which also pauses the game for those looking to do so. Pressing Esc will NOT pause the game, so be warned! Some suggestions that I have for this game are that the content should be reorganized to be accessed more easily from a menu, especially for those who play single player, instead of having to go through the Hub. However, the Hub is a great idea for Multiplayer. There is an Instant Action menu when you load into the hub if you want to jump straight into any mode randomly.
This is shaping up to be the best Outbreak game from Dead Drop. I originally found out about this series by backing this Kickstarter then going back through the catalogue, and this is really a generational leap forward. The movement, shooting, and so much of the moment to moment game feel has been heavily improved upon since Dinobreak/Contagious Memories. In its current form, it's a silly fun multiplayer title that is fun to hop in with some friends. In early access, most of the story isn't available yet. You can play through a (~5-8 hour) prologue as Lydia, but the main story is still forthcoming. If you prefer traditional survival horror, the story mode is really where it's at for a single player experience where you have to think about using resources and playing it safe. So, if that's what you're looking for, you can definitely enjoy it now, but you may want to pause for a while before going back for round two. In its current state though, hop on and the bonus modes are a good time. Turn your brain off, run around, shoot stuff, and yell at your friends for getting in the way.
На скринах одно, в игре другое....графика уровня 2001 года.....не игра, а демка по сути....
I can't personally play, because Steam Deck and my laptop don't have the VRAM to run it, but I've been following the studio for a few years, and this game since I heard about it. What I was able to run before my cheap system crashed was absolutely beautiful, and the community is amazing, so I'm content to wait for a console release or until I get a better system to run it on. I recommend Shades of Horror because it's a labor of love by a small team, and it shows they've put their all into it. EDIT: As of the second patch, Shades of Horror is now playable on both my laptop and Steam Deck. I played a round of Raid Mode, and was doing rather well, and having fun, until the enemies decided I was their new tetherball. I haven't jumped back in yet, due to time issues, but it's great so far.
Shades totally nails that old-school survival horror vibe. It’s tense, creepy, and fun to play with friends. Had the opportunity to test this out with friends quite a bit. Even in Early Access, you can tell the devs really get what makes this genre awesome and stick true to the classic genre tropes.
前作エピデミックより敵が弱く、緊迫感に欠けます。謎の咆哮も意味不明で毎ステージボスはいません。何の咆哮だったのか。近接武器の演算がおかしく敵が宇宙まで飛んでいきます。笑いました
