Our Wonderland

As a person who doesn't normally review games or normally get into visual novels, I think for the first time I felt a need to review something. Our Wonderland was a game that made me cry, get shocked and kick my feet excitedly too, all the span of few days that I spent going through the different Arc's. There are many topics that are touched upon through the story, with each character having their flaws, and their trauma. Whilst I can't directly relate to the trauma of these characters, I can understand how it shaped them to who they were. Having key flashbacks in each arc showing the impact the protagonist had on them in either a positive or negative light was eye opening to how you came to understand each character more towards the final arc of the game. Having your choices matter and being able to have romantic options was amazing, even though I knew who I would like to have chosen, there were always other options depending on how you played. I can tell Our Wonderland has had a lot love put into it, and it has been an amazing experience to play and get immersed in. I strongly recommend you at least give it a try if you like LGBTQIA+ topics and games as I believe this does a great job of encapsulating some of the more difficult aspects that some people face. I can't recommend this enough. This story is evocative in the most beautiful and painful of ways. This is the first I have played of it, I know that it has been polished many a time over the years before this recent release and it really feels polished. It is a long story, it is a dark one. It is a lense over the reoccuring atrocities and misteps of being human. I truly can't fault it. The only thing I would recommend is checking out Our Fantastic Wonderland before or after this. There comes a time about 80% through that the game recommends you check it out to give a bit of character context that exists in that mini story for the final leg of this one, but doing so at the 80% mark is a jarring and frankly regretable time to do so. It pulls you out of Our Wonderland at a turbulent time into a juxtaposition. If you feel you need a bit of a breather from the heavy story Our Fantastic Wonderland does that, but I am not one of those people. I want to feel the full impact, to hold my breath until the claws of the world finally release. The character "introduced" at the end that Our Fantastic Wonderland gives context to is very very easily summarized in the mind as a character from a point in the characters lives we hadn't seen, which works. Doesn't lessen the story to not know. Won't say more as I don't want to hint at spoilers, but wanted people aware because I think the warning/recommendation should have been at the very start or not at all. ANYWAYS, absolutely fantastic story. Is one of the best ones I have ever experienced. P.S. The LGBTQIA+ representation is real, not just a tag for the existence of a side character just as a heads up.

This game was like... really good. And pretty impressive being made with Ren'py!! I respect so much of the dedication that went into making this. The art style is super cool and honestly, the story had so much intrigue to where I wanted to see what happened next. The characters all have so much depth to them, even as individuals. It wasn't like all the thought was put into just the main character, but they all were equally thought out. I really enjoyed playing it! I was genuinely off-put by a lot of the content (in a good way!). And I think it's safe to say that Iggy needs to wish for new friends- Genzou was the only one who wasn't totally messed up in the head... But the writing was really good, I felt suspense and like... anxiety. Which is hard to pull off. Highly recommend playing this. It was a really unique game!! The opening was already intriguing on it's own. What mainly caught my eye was the art style of it when I was scrolling my recommended. Then when i played it, I just KNEW some stuff was about to go down.

I've barely started Act 2, but I figured I'd go ahead and leave a review now, and update it as I go through. I've played my fair share of what I thought were grisly games (my profile picture being one if anyone recognizes peak), but this game definitely takes the cake. It's incredibly dark and distressing on another level, I found myself having to turn the gore filter on. Gore aside, the story quickly dives into extremely dark territory, and I IMPLORE you to check the trigger warnings before playing. Like, seriously. The little bullet list of warnings at the beginning of the game doesn't really convey how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ things actually get. Right now I despise every character except Orlam to some degree, but I'm looking forward to learning more about these characters. I dunno, something about how even the worst awful people have some good to them, and even good people can have tendencies arisen directly from the pits of hell. It's definitely an INCREDIBLY nuanced look into people and their motivations, and really isn't for the faint of heart.

termine la novela en almenos 2 dias por cuestiones de tiempo pero si hubiese podido la terminaba en un solo dia, la adore de principio a fin, la historia en general tiene giros que no esperarias que en mi parecer no siento que desentonen o te hagan perder la nocion de la historia solo te hace querer seguir jugando mas y mas, mi primera secion de juego fue de casi 9 horas no pude parar de leer y pensar que es un projecto que viene de itchi.io echo por una persona con una historia y en renpy solo me hace querer darle mas merito a tan maravillosa historia, puedo entender que la parte visual y los dibujos puedan desentonar a algunas personas y no les podria gustar sin embargo creo que es el estilo del artista y lo hace tan unico y reconocible que creo poder ver cualquier cosa y saber perfectamente que es algun personaje de la novela, en cocnclucion tremenda obra maestra hubiese pagado por ella sin dudarlo y que este gratis solo lo hace mejor aun, pruebalo que no te perderas de nada y tal vez quedes como yo que simplemnte ahora soy un super fan y escribo esto terminandolo por primera vez con mi personaje favorito genzou pero planeo platinarlo.

I hate this game. No, I'm not joking - this visual novel felt like putting my brain through a blender. The horror is very visceral, dying over and over and over, blood everywhere all the time, I do NOT like gore and even with having the worst of it censored, it was tough. That wasn't the worst of it. The worst was the emotional turmoil this game put me through. Good art makes you feel things. I can't remember finishing a game before and being angry at it, but I am angry at "Our Wonderland". It does a great job using royalty-free art and music. I could have done without the flashing screens, presentation-wise, but at least the player is warned about them before starting the game. My biggest gripe: this visual novel does NOT respect your time, at all. It repeats and loops and will pretend lines you've read three times already are unseen and hence you cannot skip them unless you turn on skip unseen text. Also, personal opinion - Act 2 was the peak of this Visual Novel to me, and there's 5 acts. The final confrontation was a lot to take in thematically, but the plot did kind of lose me after Act 2 anyways. And every act still had parts I liked, or at least, could appreciate the messaging of even when it was horrible and disgusting. Do this to yourself at your own risk. I do still recommend it.
