It is done. The last part of the Oppaidius series was released for those who wanted it and those who didn't. The series has concluded. Now here's a question: are boobs here bigger than before?
The story opens with a quick recap of the events from the prequel (Tropical Cruise). Now stranded on an island you have a huge opportunity to strike a relationship goal. You have two romantic interests and three possible endings (+one extra). The number of choices is relatively balanced; there are not too many or too few choices, but only certain selections impact the outcome. Quite a few options serve no purpose, but it's not uncommon among branching vn. Still, reaching the desired ending, and avoiding the bad one, can be slightly tricky at times, but not above reason.
The conclusion to the series follows the comedic tone, with numerous silly moments sprinkled here and there, so the sense of thematic continuity prevailed. If you enjoyed the style of writing present in the previous titles, you will more than likely enjoy this iteration as well. Pretty much the whole cast of established characters is present here, but some new faces appear as well. Still, the amount of character development is fairly low, and only two main characters undergo some progression. Well, for a short title such as this one, it is excusable. I enjoyed the writing but the endings, while conclusive, felt a bit rushed, skipping on detail. I wish the final section was expanded a little bit more, but I guess the budget limited the production time. Despite that, I enjoyed the overall story more than not.
Other than reading, you can also engage in some physical activities. The beach volleyball mini-game provides some variety to the standard vn model. I count this element as positive, however, the need to repeat the unskippable first match over and over again to reach other paths can easily become a tedious, ahem, exercise. I feel like the card games present in the previous titles were better incorporated into the game. Not a big snag, but it sure can lower the level of enjoyment for some.
Embellishing the whole experience are numerous special effects. The quality and frequency of both visual and auditory effects improved yet again. Good job on this front.
Overall, the quality of this release beats the previous works easily. For the fans of the series, it is a worthy conclusion to the story. I sure enjoyed this part the best.
The graphical style established in the Oppaidius: Summer Trouble is present here as well. Every part improved on the quality of the art and this is no exception. This is definitely the best presentation of both characters and backgrounds yet. While the style of Wittorio is not my favourite, as I prefer anime art, for less weeby players it should be more than good enough. Characters are more detailed and more curvy; plus pretty jiggling. Budget product does not imply budget art, as this vn shows. Additionally, this part has actual h-scenes, and they're all nicely animated. Too bad there are only a few present.
Musically, there are some familiar tunes and some new ones, too. Just like in the previous parts, the retro theme of tracks is maintained. Most character possess their own track, and three of those have arranged versions that can be unlocked. There are also some sound effects and even voice acting during h-scenes. Not bad.
No bugs were encountered.
To conclude, the last part of the Oppaidius series offers decent art, a nice retro soundtrack, and last but not least, a good enough conclusion to the story. Fans of the series should read it; the rest might still find it interesting but without the knowledge of the previous parts enjoyment might be limited: 6.4/10
