Sorry but too much talking, way too much dialog, i had a few technical issues too. The worst thing than all that is the fact that in the beginning of the game it make you put like 13 boxes away and they are really far away. I wish the developer could change that too 3
On The Verge II is a psychological horror adventure that combines survival elements, exploration, puzzles, and narrative-driven storytelling into a dark and often unsettling experience. Developed and published by INNERENCE, the game builds upon its predecessor's themes while introducing a larger story filled with moral ambiguity, disturbing experiments, and a constant sense of unease. Rather than relying solely on jump scares or conventional horror techniques, it attempts to immerse players in a grim world where human cruelty, obsession, and desperation are often more frightening than any supernatural threat. The story follows journalist Nikolai, whose investigation into the crimes of a dangerous psychopath places him directly in the path of a nightmare. After exposing the actions of Michael Gromov, a man whose influence and brutality extend far beyond ordinary criminal behavior, Nikolai becomes the target of revenge. What begins as a personal conflict soon escalates into a horrifying struggle for survival when he is captured and subjected to a series of experiments. The narrative explores themes of vengeance, corruption, mental collapse, and the consequences of tampering with the limits of human biology. Throughout the campaign, players witness tragic events, broken lives, and moral dilemmas that blur the line between victim and monster. One of the game's most notable qualities is its atmosphere. The setting draws heavily from modern Russian urban environments, abandoned industrial locations, underground facilities, and decaying infrastructure. These environments create a feeling of isolation and discomfort that remains present throughout the entire adventure. Crumbling buildings, neglected tunnels, and forgotten warehouses become more than simple backdrops; they actively contribute to the storytelling by reflecting the hopelessness and decay that permeate the world. The sense of place is one of the strongest aspects of the game, giving it an identity distinct from many Western horror releases. Exploration forms the backbone of the gameplay experience. Players spend much of their time investigating environments, searching for clues, gathering information, and uncovering hidden details that expand the story. The world encourages curiosity, often rewarding careful observation with additional context about characters, locations, and past events. Environmental storytelling plays a major role, allowing players to piece together information from documents, objects, and surroundings rather than relying entirely on direct exposition. This approach helps maintain immersion while making discoveries feel meaningful. Puzzle-solving is integrated naturally into progression. Rather than presenting isolated challenges disconnected from the narrative, the puzzles are tied to the environments and situations players encounter. Many require attention to detail and a willingness to think creatively. Solving these challenges often feels like genuine investigation rather than simply completing mechanical tasks. The puzzles help vary the pacing while reinforcing the sense that survival depends on intelligence as much as determination. Survival mechanics add another layer of tension to the experience. Players are frequently placed in vulnerable situations where resources are limited and danger is never far away. The game emphasizes caution over aggression, encouraging players to think carefully about their actions. While combat and direct threats appear throughout the story, the focus remains on enduring difficult circumstances rather than becoming an unstoppable protagonist. This vulnerability strengthens the horror elements and makes successful progression feel rewarding. The game's narrative stands out because of its willingness to embrace unusual ideas. Human experimentation and biological manipulation serve as major themes, giving the story a disturbing scientific undertone. These concepts are woven throughout the plot and supported by educational references to biology that appear during the adventure. This focus on physical transformation and scientific obsession creates a unique form of horror that feels grounded in human ambition and recklessness rather than supernatural phenomena. Another interesting aspect is the game's handling of player choice. Certain decisions influence how events unfold, leading to multiple possible endings. This branching structure encourages replayability and gives greater weight to player actions. Choices often carry consequences that may not become apparent immediately, creating a sense of uncertainty about what outcomes certain decisions might produce. The existence of alternative narrative paths adds depth to the experience and provides additional incentive to revisit the story. Beyond the main storyline, the game introduces secondary narrative threads that expand the world. One such subplot focuses on the troubled history of an organization connected to underground construction projects and hidden facilities. These additional stories help flesh out the setting and provide context for the larger events taking place. While not every narrative thread receives equal attention, they contribute to the feeling that the world extends beyond the immediate conflict between Nikolai and his tormentor. Visually, On The Verge II reflects its independent development origins. The graphics are not comparable to those of major horror productions, but the game compensates through strong environmental design and atmosphere. Lighting, shadows, and environmental details frequently create effective moments of tension. The Unreal Engine helps deliver believable locations and immersive settings, even when certain animations and character models reveal budget limitations. The focus remains on mood and storytelling rather than technical spectacle. Sound design also plays a significant role in creating suspense. Ambient noises, distant echoes, industrial sounds, and unsettling audio cues help maintain a constant feeling of unease. The game often uses silence effectively, allowing tension to build naturally before introducing more dramatic moments. This restrained approach makes the horror feel more psychological and less dependent on sudden shocks. The game is not without flaws. Its ambitious blend of survival horror, dark comedy, science-fiction concepts, and psychological storytelling occasionally results in tonal inconsistencies. Some sections feel more polished than others, and the pacing can fluctuate between compelling narrative moments and slower exploration segments. Certain gameplay mechanics may feel rough around the edges, particularly when compared to larger-budget titles. Additionally, the unconventional storytelling style may leave some players confused or disconnected from certain narrative developments. Despite these shortcomings, On The Verge II succeeds by offering an experience that feels genuinely different from many contemporary horror games. Its unusual setting, disturbing themes, and commitment to atmosphere create a memorable journey through a world defined by suffering, obsession, and moral decay. The game's willingness to explore difficult subjects while maintaining an unpredictable narrative helps it stand out within the crowded horror genre. On The Verge II is an ambitious and often unsettling psychological horror adventure that delivers a compelling mix of exploration, survival, puzzles, and narrative mystery. While its rough edges occasionally become noticeable, the strength of its atmosphere, worldbuilding, and storytelling allows it to leave a lasting impression. Players who appreciate experimental horror experiences with dark themes and unconventional ideas will find a uniquely disturbing journey that is as fascinating as it is uncomfortable. Rating: 8/10
