Fun Game reminds me of Defender when I was young. Download it NOW Do it .
It's tough to review the games I never played, and got help from my brother on, but if I recall, what he said is that this is a decent, but very difficult arcade style shooter. So... I suppose I will recommend it just for people who don't want the achievements.

a pretty cool arcade retro game :)
Offendron Warrior is a very old school arcade shooter that feels like it was made specifically for someone who misses the fast and unforgiving games of the 1980s. I am flying through a constantly scrolling space battlefield while trying to protect Offendron civilians from human war machines and a virus that turns them into dangerous enemies. The whole game is heavily inspired by Defender, so the main idea is not complicated, but it gives me a clear job from the moment I start. I have to keep moving, protect the civilians and survive long enough to push my score higher. The civilian system is what makes it more interesting than a basic shoot em up for me. Each planet has 10 civilians and I have to keep them alive through four waves before moving on to the next part of the game. If I manage to save everyone, I get to move into space and fight another group of enemies. If I lose everyone, the game changes into more of a survival situation where I have to deal with infected civilians. I like having something to protect because it gives me another thing to think about besides simply shooting whatever is closest to me. I also like the two different forms of the Offendron Warrior. In Interceptor mode I can move much faster, which is useful when I need to reach civilians quickly or chase enemies across the map. Offender mode is slower, but I can fire my laser much faster and move vertically more precisely. Switching between the two gives the simple controls a little more depth because I have to decide whether speed or firepower is more useful at that moment. I can also use smart missiles that automatically seek targets and a hyperspace jump to escape danger, although using hyperspace too much can actually destroy me. The biggest problem for me is the speed. This game moves extremely quickly, and once several enemies are on screen I have to react almost immediately. I actually like difficult arcade games, but there is a fine line between something being challenging and simply becoming overwhelming. Offendron Warrior sometimes gets very close to that line. The generous bonus lives help, and the controls are simple enough that I can understand what I should be doing, but there are still plenty of situations where everything happens so quickly that I barely have time to react. The presentation is basic but I think it suits the game. The pixel graphics, space setting and fast movement all give it a proper retro arcade feel, and the soundtrack helps with that old school atmosphere too. There is not really a big story for me to get invested in, but I do not think that hurts the game because the story is mostly there to explain why I am flying around protecting civilians. The online scoreboard and 25 Steam achievements also fit the score attack style nicely, because this is clearly designed around replaying runs and trying to improve. What holds it back most for me is the limited scope. Once I understand the basic systems, there is not a huge amount of variety outside surviving waves, protecting civilians and pushing for a higher score. That can still be fun, but it means I need to be in the right mood for a pure arcade experience. I also think the difficulty can make it harder to appreciate the more interesting mechanics because I am often concentrating so heavily on survival. Still, the fact that the game is available as a free version makes it much easier for me to overlook some of those limitations and simply enjoy it for what it is. Overall, Offendron Warrior is a solid retro arcade shooter that does not try to be anything more complicated than it needs to be. I like the Defender inspired gameplay, protecting civilians, switching between the two forms and using smart missiles and hyperspace when things get dangerous. The extreme speed and limited variety stop it from reaching the higher ratings I give to games with more depth, but the simple controls and old school design make it easy for me to understand what the game wants from me. It is best when I treat it as a short arcade challenge where the goal is to survive longer, save more civilians and push my score further each time. Rating: 6.8/10
