Odinfall is a stylish roguelite twin-stick shooter developed by Ember Paw Games and published by Fireshine Games. Built around a wildly imaginative premise that merges Norse mythology with a futuristic apocalypse, the game throws players into a world where Ragnarok has already reshaped civilization and cybernetic gods rule over the ruins. Rather than focusing heavily on storytelling, Odinfall uses its unique setting as a backdrop for intense action, fast progression systems, and endless experimentation. The result is a game that immediately captures attention with its unusual concept while delivering the addictive gameplay loop expected from the roguelite genre. The heart of the experience lies in its fast and aggressive combat. Every run places players in procedurally generated environments packed with enemies, hazards, loot, and opportunities for growth. Movement is fluid, gunplay feels responsive, and battles quickly escalate into chaotic encounters filled with projectiles, explosions, and close calls. Success depends on maintaining constant momentum, learning enemy attack patterns, and adapting to whatever upgrades appear during a run. The action remains engaging because each attempt feels different, encouraging players to refine strategies while chasing stronger builds and deeper progression. One of the game's strongest features is its diverse cast of playable characters. Odinfall avoids the common roguelite approach of making characters feel like simple variations of one another. Instead, each hero offers a noticeably different style of play. Whether controlling a heavily modified Cyberserker, a ruthless Dark Elf, a destructive Viking Moose, a resourceful Dwarf, or a heavily armed Gnome, players are encouraged to approach combat from new angles. These unique abilities and progression paths significantly increase replay value, ensuring that repeated runs remain fresh rather than repetitive. Weapon customization is another area where Odinfall shines. The game provides an extensive collection of upgrades and modifiers that can dramatically transform how weapons behave. A standard firearm can evolve into an absurdly powerful instrument capable of freezing enemies, spreading toxic effects, firing homing shots, or triggering chain reactions across entire groups of opponents. The constant pursuit of powerful combinations creates a rewarding sense of discovery throughout every session. Much of the game's long-term appeal comes from experimenting with these systems and uncovering new synergies that completely alter a run's effectiveness. Visually, Odinfall embraces a colorful pixel-art style that balances charm and chaos remarkably well. Character sprites are expressive, environments are packed with detail, and combat effects create an energetic spectacle without becoming overwhelming. The game's world feels distinct thanks to its fusion of Viking mythology and futuristic technology, resulting in enemy designs and locations that stand apart from more traditional fantasy or science-fiction settings. Destructible elements within the environment further enhance battles by adding both visual excitement and tactical opportunities. The boss encounters serve as major highlights throughout the adventure. Massive enemies inspired by Norse legends challenge players to fully utilize their chosen character builds and combat skills. These battles are often intense tests of positioning, timing, and resource management, providing satisfying milestones within the overall progression structure. Beyond the primary campaign content, additional challenge modes and survival-oriented gameplay offer reasons to continue playing long after initial victories have been achieved. Another strength of Odinfall is its commitment to progression. Even failed runs contribute toward future success through unlocks, upgrades, and expanded gameplay options. This steady sense of advancement helps soften the frustration that can sometimes accompany difficult roguelites. While the game can be demanding, especially during later stages when enemy numbers and attack patterns become increasingly aggressive, the permanent progression systems ensure that players always feel like they are working toward something meaningful. The game's soundtrack and sound effects complement the action effectively. Weapons deliver satisfying impact, explosions feel powerful, and combat encounters maintain a sense of urgency from start to finish. Combined with polished controls and responsive gameplay mechanics, the audio design helps reinforce the excitement that drives the overall experience. Although Odinfall occasionally suffers from difficulty spikes and moments where screen-filling chaos can become overwhelming, these issues rarely overshadow its strengths. The game succeeds because it understands the importance of variety, rewarding progression, and player creativity. Its blend of frantic shooting, imaginative customization systems, memorable characters, and unique setting helps it stand out in a genre crowded with competitors. For players who enjoy roguelites that emphasize experimentation, rapid-fire combat, and high replayability, Odinfall offers a compelling package. The combination of customizable weapons, diverse character choices, challenging bosses, and an entertaining cyber-Norse world creates an experience that remains enjoyable across dozens of runs. While still leaving room for refinement and future growth, Odinfall already delivers a satisfying and highly engaging action experience that demonstrates both creativity and strong game design. Rating: 8./10
okay! honest review- pros and cons alike! granted the game is still early access but anyway- PROS- 1.feels like nuclear throne. you can tell they took heavy inspiration from it and it shows. very nice 2. fun characters 3. some guns generally feel good 4. amazing soundtrack and theme of game 5. awesome map designs! CONS 1. loads of crashes(the game is still being made though) 2. some guns feel terrible 3. some enemies feel copy and paste but not a huge con 4. the game feels semi short boss wise. (no thor?!?!?) 5. would love more lore on the world or enemies so far odinfall has been a treat. i give it a 8.5 out of 10.
This game is Streets Ahead! If you don’t like it you’re Streets Behind.
Effectively took much of what makes Enter The Gungeon, Noita and Nuclear Throne great and combined it into a standalone game. Dodging is discouraged in most situations, which is unfortunate.
Huge rec for anyone who digs Nuclear Throne or Enter the Gungeon! Super fast and fun
Pretty good game, looks like Nuclear Throne but with modifiers for weapons and possibility to choose your path to boss. Stille not enough content and sometimes lagging. Different playable characters need different abilities i think. Some weapons just useless, like a start pistol. I would wait for official release, but already kind of playable and good.
