Reviews
Mid story, way too pricey.
Nice RPG, worth a try.
Varying starts and clear traversal indicators means if I enter a high level zone I am going to get mauled at low levels. Plus I like the artwork and monster diversity.
Overall, I recommend this cause the positives really carry this game (even though the negatives are pretty annoying here). Pick Therion as your main character!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I won't say why, but suffice to say who you pick first won't affect the plot and you'll thank me later if you do. Pros: - The 'break' combat system is really well implemented and adds a surprising amount of depth to the turn based battles. - The job system is really really well done and it's a lot of fun customizing all the class combinations. A lot of room for experimentation here. - The combat is broken up into chunks, so it doesn't feel like you're in a JRPG endless grind at any point (unless you want to be). - The art and graphic style of this game is so freakin fire. Reminds me of the best parts of old 2d JRPG graphics with just a little bit of a modern 'POP' to each zone. - Each town has it's own style and cultural feel. Cons: - Sometimes the balancing in this game is really bizarre, although the game is fairly easy, taken in whole. - So many of the character overworld abilities and mechanics are soooooo badly explained in the beginning. These 'path actions' really felt tedious. - While the stories of each of the characters are not bad, you do get some REALLY bad dialogue pacing that just DOESN'T GET TO THE F'N POINT. - There are too many dumb side stories you have to go through to get the best stat items. I just didn't like the path action mechanic enough to enjoy these side stories. EDIT: The endgame bosses and the post-game dungeons changed my review to negative, ♥♥♥♥ this game. I hated how you have to spend 50-60 minutes on endgame bosses where 80% of it is boringly easy, but then the boss ups it power insanely at the last phase meaning you just wasted 40 minutes in a slog, really really really pissed me off.
As a fan of pixel-style graphics, this game stuns me with its beautiful look. Currently I'm starting Chapter 2 for characters and so far, I like this game. There are however pros and cons I've ran into so far: PROS: -Game is beautiful to look at -Combat system and job system are easy to get familiar with. Boost system makes it so that you cand deal a lot of damage even with skills that require less SP. No need to spam more expensive skills and then ran out SP in no time. -Characters are interesting and each have unique storyline -Path actions are neat to use (Heh, I'm stealing all items I can!) -Works perfectly on Steam Deck ------ CONS: -Lack of interraction between party members makes game feel hollow. Sure, there are times when when two characters have a little bit of party panter mid character story but lack of joint events or cutscenes just makes the team feel non-unified. I hear things are better at the sequel though. -So far, gameplay feels like running from point A to B more than I'd like. Run the road to next town to recruit next character, do their story mission, etc. Again, I'm only starting at chapter 2 so I cannot say if the pattern continues all the time. -Like all RPGs, its grindy. My main character is on lv 24 and I'm currently trying get the rest at least on lv 20 too so next boss won't wipe me out.
