Great game, great story. Haven't fought any battles yet, so can't tell about battles.
LOVE THIS GAME!!!

Great visuals and fun combat, but the game gets extremely grindy fast, there's no meaningful interaction between party members, and the stories are mediocre at best and extremely predictable. The fact that you need 10+ levels in between chapters to even have a chance against the boss (and also the fact that said bosses give next to no xp) made me quit after 30 hours.
Rating 5.9/10. If this game came out around the time of final fantasy 6 (III) and we didn't have the backlog of great games we have currently I would probably rate this game much higher. The characters seemed very individual and didn't have much recognition of other people in the parties other than the banter. When you ran into a boss it was like you were alone. The stories seemed somewhat interesting but were anti climactic. I just couldn't wait to get the game over. If you like strategic character builds then you will really like this game. They had some good things going like everyone could learn the same jobs yet everyone had their own base job. This was really cool. There were a ton of side quests and hidden locations to learn more jobs. The endgame encouraged you to keep playing and find more quests. The art was beautiful and I Found myself spending a lot of time enjoying the surrounding view. If I didn't have a lot of other games I wanted to play and this was 20yrs ago I would really enjoy this. The game was looooooong for better or worse. I just felt over all for me I didn't like the strategic battles which made every encounter drag. The character stories were so spaced I couldn't get invested. The world seemed small since there was no overworld, you just teleported to each town once you found it. Probably wont play any of the other ones in the series as I think they are similar.
More of a kinda recommend than a recommend. Good but not great. Like it don't love it. Now if you're really into turnbased RPG's I'm sure you'll like it. (but pick it up on sale) Story format is unique. No central protagonist, but 8 characters who's stories are independent of each other, each focused on their own story. Most stories are good, only one was kinda boring, some better than others. Game play is good, mechanics make for fun boss fights but VERY tedious leveling and encounters while exploring. Between life and other games taking priority, took a break at a leveling point right after all Chapters 3's and just couldn't get back into it. It felt like I was forcing my self to play just to not have another unfinished game in my library. But I can always come back if/when I feel like it, and the game does do a brief summary at the start of each chapter. Since I didn't finish it that could be effecting my overall opinion of it.

too slow, not enough tutorial and long game function explanation, esp on jobs and how to get them. there is no difficulty level built in so its a LOT of grinding and the graphics are 16bit refined with the unreal engine so they are ok, but lame for the year it was remade for PC.
